PA PA - Monroe Twp, 'Penny Doe', WhtFem 20-40, 246UFPA, near RR trestle, Rt leg broken, Jul'90

I may be grasping at straws here, but I think Penny also resembles Cherrie Mahan who disappeared when she was 8 years old in 1985 from PA.

does anyone know how to do a side by side photo for comparision????

despite the length of this thread, I don't recall seeing the Namus link posted. here is it with only two official rule outs, both Beverlys:

I would have to say that IMO there is no way she is or was Amish. her race is listed as white and her ethnicity is listed as "other". the Amish in Pennsylvania are an extraordinarily closed genetic group of people. so much so that they have an assortment of rare maladies which occur in their community in vast disproportion to their numbers. They were from Germany originally so I do not see how they would be mistaken as being an "other" in ethnic terms.

for whatever it is worth, the top two images from the State's MP page for her make her look almost Asiatic, possibly Native American. the bottom pic give her a more Puerto Rican look to me.

while her final resting spot may have been remote, Clarion is near Route 80 so her origin could have been anywhere east or west of there.

from all appearanes she was nicely dressed and had been reasonably well cared for.

one question I have about the clothes is whether the blouse and vest were one piece or two? I can't tell if the vest was "Stop Light of California" or if it was a combination.

here is a link to a multicolored blouse from the same manufacturer:

CarlK will be the best one to compare these. There is some resemblance if Cherrie were alive and held for several years. One draw back to this theory is that "Penny" was estimated between 15-22 years old in 1990. In 1990, Cherrie would only be 13. With the progressive photo of Cherrie, there is a resemblance though.

this missing person is even more local to th UID than Tracy Kroh. her name is Tamara Porrin, missing fro DuBois, PA which is in the Western part of the state.

15 y.o. in Nov 1986 when last seen and 5'0", 130 lbs and brown hair. also listed as ethnicity "other":

I contacted the police about Tamara. They said she was ruled out.

Wish I could decipher the previous post..

The only way an Amish ethnicity is revealed is if they choose to reveal it. i.e. Ayy practicing Amish will wear the clothes, live with the sect, etc. Otherwise no one would know. My great grandfater was Amish and was shunned. I don't claim my ethnicity to be Amish, however, and if I never told anyone, they wouldn't know.

I'm not sure which of the Amish groups celebrate Rumspringa (spelling?), but from what I vaguely recall, it is a rite that teenagers go through-sort of a time when they can wear "regular" clothes and leave for a while, and live life to the max. A lot of the teens persue a wild sort of time...then they may choose to either return to their family, or move on. I'm sorry I'm sketchy on the details, it has been a while since I viewed the documentary.

Glad to see some interest in Penny's case again. You got to remember there are a lot of camps around here that people ususally only use during hunting and fishing season. At that time, there was also a concert going on.

I still think the name Beverly is significant. namus so far only ruled out two Beverlys missing before that date. Maybe the anonymous letter LE received in 2002 indicated Penn's name as Beverly.

P.S. I have access to a tape of the concert. Won't hurt to look for the clothes Penny was wearing.

This version bears very little resemblance to the official version. But even if her overall look is off, I'm pretty confident that the facial structure is accurate, as the skull aligns to all key points. Looking at the skull, I don't see any support for the broad jawline shown in the official version. Also, the official version depicts her with somewhat of an ethnically mixed look (perhaps Native), although she is described as a simply as a "white female". NamUs lists her race as "White" and her ethnicity as "Other". NamUs only allows two options for ethnicity (i.e., "Hispanic/Latino" and "Other")

I tried to send the pic to you but couldn't. Try this hairstyle and length, without the crimps. Thanks

P.S. That is not me. Just a random pic demonstrating 80's hair on the web. I definitely had the hairstyle at one point though. LOL

Yes!!!! Thank you! A perfect 1990 hairstyle! Now how do we get this recreation into circulation? Any locals want to help?

Thanks! I don't think that would be necessary, but maybe making posters of the above reconstruction and putting them locally might jog someone's memory.

It has been some time since I have posted on this case and I have talked to some people that lived in the area. It seems that the local people in the area believe that she either jumped off the train or possibly had been pushed out of train that used that route. I am not sure what railway or companies that used that railway track, but it could possibly give us an idea of where she might have come from. But then the letter that was sent to the police barracks indicating that they knew who she was and what happened still has me stumped.

I'm not sure if the train theory makes sense. I don't think trains were running along that track in 1990. Besides, the police mentioned she had not been in the area for more than a month so there must have been some talk of her being seen in the area before her death. You also have the anonymous letter that was sent. Someone knows something.

Yes the tracks were being used during the time Penny was found. I am not a railroad buff, so I do not know who used them or where they went or came from. I will ask around. With the area being as remote as it is, she could have been found by somebody and held against her will....just an idea......

There is an August 2006 thread about this Jane doe in the archives, but the news story link is broken, and one cannot comment on the thread.

Here is the Namus link . Warning graphic image recon:
