It's a shame she disappeared 11 years before Penny was found because I see a lot of similarities in the face.

I always thought she looked older than a teenager, but it's so hard to tell just by looks.

  • #143
Those 2 look alot alike.............

She even has a chipped front tooth (it looks like at least).

Is it worth a submission??

I always thought Tamara Porrin was a match. She lived only a half hour from where Penny Doe was found. In her pics it looks like one front tooth is longer than the other. I contacted LE enforcement once but they told me they ruled her out. Not sure if they really did or they were humoring me. I don't see her rule out on Namus?

Me too Arianne, Me too!!! I live in PA and this has been one of my handful of pet cases. Maybe you should submit Tamara to Emily Craig, or ask Carl to since he has dealt with Emily before.

I was just looking at Tamara yesterday thinking maybe LE made a mistake!!

Are you up for it Carl? I always thought Tamara ran away from and was estranged from her family that is why there was a lapse in time from when she was missing to when Penny Doe was found. I live between where Tamara went missing and where Penny was found. I know how close it is, but also know how it is possible to not see a family member for a few years if you don't want to.

Another possibility is this Erie girl. The only info is the height, weight and hair color. Proximity on 80 to Clarion Co. is right on so she may have been a transient.

I will send her an email about these two today. Worth a shot.

She said she would send the dental records for comparison on Barbara, but a match was unlikely. There were no dental records for Tamara, but they do have DNA. She said something about a comparison may be done. I'm not sure if I understood her correctly. A comparison of DNA may be done and passed along to the case managers but not put on the r/o? I will have to show you the email Monday when I go back to work. I was confused.

Arianne,

I was looking at an old post of yours and you said that you contacted police last year and they said that Tamara was ruled out? Do you know on what basis they ruled her out?

I just looked at the map to see the distance between where Tamara went missing from and where the UID was found... It is only 40 miles... give or take. It's almost as straigt shot across I80.

Tamara was last seen in 1986. Less than 4 years later this UID was found. I could see if she was a runaway or if someone kidnapped her and kept her local until she met her demise. (trying to think outside the box)

Hopefully Emily Craig will be able to get more insight on if Tamara was ruled out if it is from DNA..

I think Emily meant that sometimes when they have ruled out a missing person against and UID, the Case Managers at NamUs do not always update the UID's page with the most recent list. I got to wonder how many missing people have been compared to being Penny Doe...

From what Emily said, I don't think the DNA was compared between Tamara and Penny Doe, and Tamara doesn't have dentals so I don't know if LE was just telling me that. I kept the email the officer sent me telling me she was ruled out, however, I thought it was quite odd it wasn't on the r/o list. I just went back in my emails and re-read it and he said Tamara was ruled out. I went back and re-read Emily's and she said she was submitting it?

Here is the email:
(7919 is Tamara)

7919 has no dental records available but a DNA family reference sample is in the DNA database. DNA from the unidentified remains has not yet been processed. Exclusion s are generally not posted but if associations are made through DNA the case investigators are notified.

2499 has dental records and x-rays in the system and so does the unidentified. I will send this to the forensic odontologist for a confirmatory exclusion, but at this point there is no evidence for an association.

Keep trying!

Emily

Barbara Shumac is listed on the NamUs ruleout list for Penny Doe. I am taking it that they just added her on the list?

  • #155
Yes, I submitted Barbara as well. She said they would compare dentals as they both had dentals on file.

  • #156
Ugh. Still nothing.

FWIW- way back in this thread, there is a revised version of the first composite of Penny that makes her look younger. If I hadn't known better, I would have sworn it was a picture of a young woman that was in my son's class.

As far as ethnicity goes, her dad is Hispanic and mom is white . I know it's not her- saw her and her folks the other day. But thought I'd throw it out there- Eerie how that pic is a dead ringer for her!

I submitted a match to Frances Morales missing since April 1990. There is a resemblence in the facial features, specifically the teeth!

Check out one of the larger pictures on one of the other websites.
