PA - Monsignor W. Lynn & 4 priests arrested in sweep/child rape & failure to protect

I firmly believe this is a slam dunk. I only wish charges had been brought against these enablers long ago. It is obvious the "church" let this go on. GOD, it has been going on for centuries. I want to vomit.

Where do some of Philly's bad priests go? Why Florida of course.

Or Downingtown..that's where they send them for "therapy", to St. John Vianney hospital.

I am really disappointed that reporters cannot even tweet from the trial, I would really like to hear all the evidence. Mostly because Msgr Lynn was my parish priest..heard my daughter's first confession, gave her her first communion, and helped confirm her. He talked her through a crisis with just the right words. My heart is broken. It's so hard to see someone you loved and respected in this situation but I will not be blind. If he deserves punishment, so be it but I would like to hear the testimony for myself. Too bad I have to work. :sigh:

Don't they go to Flourtown too, Strawberry?

It is disheartening. It's sad. I don't think there's a one of us "Catholic In Philly) who don't feel like you do or know someone that does.

The allowing of the memo's I think has Lynn sunk. He signed off on so many of them. The one especially troubling is where he let Gana expand his ministry. The guy just couldn't be happy with serving some Carmelite Nuns. Nope. Then Lynn tells him it's O.K., BUT to lay low. Ya know don't be showing up in the NE in case he'd run into a victim.

Honestly in the long haul they made him the scapegoat. I don't believe he is innocent, but he had to answer to Krol and Bevilacqua and Rigali, right?

If not for them and Lynn having to "follow orders" there'd be so many more people alive today. So many more people leading untroubled lives not marred by child sexual abuse by their spiritual leader.

So very glad you are not blind. It really is sad. It's sad for all of us. However, for all those victims and their families sad don't even touch it.

Yeah those memo's look damning alright.

O/T, but not this relates to how we're all effected at least here that I know of in Philadelphia.

Forget brother's being altar boys, and us all getting Confirmed and camps run by Oblates and being cheerleaders for our brother schools and hitting confession in school and the likes..................

My mom is elderly. She pretty much isn't paying alot of attention to the Church crisis. Afterall in her day the Parish Priest came to dinner every Friday night at the house. Life was grand. Blah, blah.

She's reading the paper the other day and goes "Oh noooooooooo". I ask her now what's the problem? She says "Remember the Priest that came into that room at the hospital when daddy died?" Yeah. She points at a picture and goes "This is him".

Here that Priest was put into a hospital ministry because of the scandal starting to break. They'd shuffled him around. It was Christmas morning my fairly young dad died so suddenly. A Priest no doubt was a relief to see for my mom I guess. I wasn't there yet. She said he had been wonderful.

Well, wonderful enough he was raping kids for eons.

After talking my mom goes "Oh daddy was dead already anyway, and he was a good man. Who cares about those Last Rites? He didn't need them anyway so that's fine. I hope that man "Priest" fries for hurting kids"

Still ya know? It had such devastating effects on lives. Even on those of us that were never hurt by a Priest physically, spiritually and morally.

I don't know about Flourtown, but Vianney is a mile from my house and right next door to Bishop Shananan High School. . Yes I feel sadly that Lynn is sunk. When I read the GJ docs, and it's been a while, I felt sick. And the way these now-men are being treated by the defense is infuriating. It's a mess.

That sounds like something my too mom would say. That's crazy

That's CRAZY! Good for your mom! My dad died fairly young too..47 and I can totally relate.

They may have made hime the scapegoat, but everybody has to follow their own conscience. It is sad to me that so many of the church just followed orders and never stood up for what was the right thing to do.
These men will have to answer for their blind obedience, imo.
I really question how they thought their God wanted them to handle things this way. :waitasec:

Thanks for all the links ohiogirl. I find it hard to comment on this thread as my blood pressure goes up higher and higher with each story. I am an ex-Catholic and have a tremendous amount of anger toward the church. It just gets worse and worse and spreads wider and wider. So many children have been hurt and had their lives altered by the abuse they suffered. I am so ashamed of the church. They have learned no lessons and are still trying valiantly to cover it up as more and more information comes out.

Yes sir, I know I'd be real jealous if my mom was an altar server or whatever they call it.

The mom of this guy testified she will never truly know what happened. O.K. and this is just me, but if the guy credible or not says he stayed overnight with the Priest because they had an early golf outing the next day and this is when the Priest got in bed with the 14 year old ummmmmmmm wouldn't the mother say "Oh yeah he did stay overnight with Father"?

In this case he's been in trouble and has filed false police charges in the past. Account for all these poor kids sexually assaulted by grown men who are their spiritual advisors............their confessors.........the closest thing to God on earth you're gonna get to..........my bet is many, many of them have grown up to have confused, troubled, addiction riddled lives.

Hope I have the right link.

Let's take the case of Father Thomas Francis Shea shall we? Lynn got to him pretty fast when an Attorney called him about a client who was a former altar boy who was sexually assaulted by Shea in the 70's.

Lynn asked the "Priest" if it was true? In the "secret files" Lynn wrote the Priest was emothional. Ummmm ya think? Busted!!!!!!!! The Attorney said he was aware of another boy that had been sexually assaulted by Shea. Indeed, Shea admitted there were two. Meanwhile nobody told about a letter sent anonymously by someone who was also sexually assaulted by the same creeper. Some poor soul who was running from their past every single day of their life. Did anyone try and reach out and look for who this person was? Nope.

Wait for it..........................................Lynn suggested to the Attorney his client may have seduced Father Shea.

Yeah those pesky little altar boy's in those pressed cassocks. It's awful how they go around "seducing" grown men who are supposed to be so da*n Holy.

For that alone Lynn should be well something to do with a public square and maybe stones?

Who says that? Who?

West Virginia diocese balks at sending Monsignor here to testify.

Monsignor Quirk is the aide to the Bishop of West Virginia who just happens to be from Philly and an old friend of that pervert Stanley Gana.

Quirk is being called in because he was at the "in house" trial of Father "I swear I didn' touch that liar" Brennan.

Our trial here in Philly has now been called a circus, and man are they all PO'd about the "rumours" one witness has made. If untrue wouldn't that be a false allegation? Who the he*l are their PR peeps?
