I will never understand how the church thought they were doing a good thing by covering the abuse up and transferring these priests to different parishes. I can't believe they thought that God or Jesus would like what they were doing. How can you be a good priest to your parishioners by putting children in harm's way. This has cost them more in the long run than it would have if they had just been honest and dealt with the problems immediately.
I know this is not new, but I read and then have to blurt stuff out.
The Catholic church only has themselves to blame for the current state of affairs of declining membership and $$ drying up. They also have only themselves to blame if there are some false accusations out there that lead them to suspend innocent priests. It is their own fault for not coming clean in the first place and opening the church up to false accusations. Not that I think there are very many, but in these articles people are upset that possibly innocent priests have been suspended. It is the church's fault.
It just really makes me ill that these priests were looked up to and advised people daily on right and wrong! Gaaaa!

Cardinal Anthony Joseph Bevilacqua, 88, whose 15 years as shepherd of the 1.5 million-member Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia was marked by both celebration and crisis, died in his sleep Tuesday night in his apartment at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood.

Donna Farrell, a spokeswoman for the archdiocese, said he died about 9:15 p.m.

Anita Guzzardi the chief financial officer for the Philadelphia Archdiocese has been busted for stealing roughly one million dollars from the Church. That's ONE MILLION over a few years.

Guzzardi was known to love and patronize the Borgatta in Atlantic City as well as take some fab vacation trips. No criminal charges have been filed. Oh O.K? what are we waiting for?

In this time of revelations about Sandusky and the Penn State disaster, the Catholic Church can't hope to escape scrutiny at this time in Pennsylvania.

But here again it takes years and numerous grand juries, not to mention the suffering or even deaths of the victims. :maddening: And we know now that PA and many other states are trying to change the statute of limitations on such crimes to infinity - as it should be, imo.

1968 is when the mother of a boy brought forth letters the esteemed creeper Father John H Mulholland wrote to her son. Sadomasochistic letters.

Lynn knew at least about the letters and still moved pervert around. We're talking big time freak who apparently had a penchant for hanging boys and human feces. A man so wiley even other parents didn't pay mind to what their children told them. Ummmm the only good news is this old "man" is not a priest any longer.

Now will the letters be allowed in court to prove that Lynn knew as ynotdivein said. He knew. I believe Bevilaqua knew and Krol knew.

BTW, Mulholland last administered to the elderly at The Immaculate Mary Home. I am no Saint. However, I do believe Our Lady wept over this.

They debated this very thing this morning on our Action News with Monica Malpass. Basically will this be the lasting impression of Bevilaqua's service. They likened him to JoPa. Two men with wonderful careers giving so much to the community. I thought aloud. I won't share cause it got me so angry.

One of the panel kind of steered toward an alleged victim in another State and how he made the whole thing up. Yeah I though real loud on that one. Not the same thing, dude. Malpass reigned that one in thankfully.

It's all so spiritually draining. It never ends. Then we have all these schools just closing. Find your kid another place to go. They keep blaming low enrollment. Come on. How much are they paying those lawyers?

Only God knows what that Mulholland guy is up to right about now. Walking around free.

On an aside the funeral services have been taking part for Cardinal Bevilacqua here. Also a freak accident occured at the rectory part of the Basillica where Mass is heard for him today. A like 25 foot crane fell miraculously not hitting any cars or pedestrians. The crane operator did survive, but is in bad condition.

Defense Attorney's for Monsignor Lynn moved to have any charges against him dropped because of this shredded list.

In a nutshell supposedly Cardinal Bevilacqua held court armed with a list in 1994 of abusive priests and he had the list shredded. This then proves Monsignor Lynn couldn't do a thing because it was the powers that be above him who covered everything up.
