Cardinal Anthony Joseph Bevilacqua, 88, whose 15 years as shepherd of the 1.5 million-member Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia was marked by both celebration and crisis, died in his sleep Tuesday night in his apartment at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood.
Donna Farrell, a spokeswoman for the archdiocese, said he died about 9:15 p.m.
Maybe I'm nuts, but this death seems awfully convenient for the diocese.
The priest at our old church was busted for embezzlement. He was just sent away for 'treatment.' Nice to know that church funds are apparently primarily used for gambling and sex abuse settlements. Yeah, I'm just dying to go put money in the basket.
Will there ever be an end to this parade of perverted priests? I'm starting to have my doubts. It just gets worse and worse as time goes on. They need to do away with the statute of limitations on child sex crimes. The fact that they have finally been brought into the light and are going to walk away without punishment is almost more than I can stand. They have all retained their retirement. Most have been able to stay in the priesthood. It is heartbreaking and rage inducing. I can't even imagine how the victims must feel.
ETA: A priest into masochism? That's a new one on me.
They won the ruling to allow evidence of past "bad behavior" as one talk radio host put it.
The evidence will evidently prove that Lynn was warned and told about these Priests alleged behavior and he still shuffled them around.
If a writer brought this to a Hollywood producer, he would be shown the door and told never to return.
You can't make this stuff up, it's that awful.
