He killed a Labrador. His ex-girlfriend's dog. That is beyond horrible. Domestic violence situations are always the most dangerous for LEO.

So the warrants weren't for extremely serious charges.
He might have spent some jail time & then been released.

Why did he murder those innocent policemen.

Also from the above link :

  • The shooter was wearing camouflage, according to law enforcement, and it is not yet clear to investigators whether the shooter was waiting in the cornfield for the ex-girlfriend or the arresting officers, CNN says.
I can't imagine how that ex girlfriend is feeling, hope she's ok.
J.R. even killed her dog. 🤬
What a sick loser.
Imo.

Hey Everyone.
Please no more Facebook until we are sure we have the correct FB account.
The WRONG fb account was posted and the poor man whose account it was had to make a statement. I don't trust posting the perp's Facebook until we are 100 percent certain.
Let's just stick with MSM for now please. If MSM posts something from the FB page then that's OK.

Pretty big turnout.
It was good to see people paying their respects to these officers.

Unfortunately, I missed most of the press conference, but I did catch the last 10 minutes or so. Here are some new facts:

The three deceased officers were named. I’ll try to find a link in a bit.

The shooter was inside the residence of his ex and her mother when he opened fire. The two women had been advised the night prior to seek other accommodation, and they were thankfully not home when the shooter got in.

LE cannot report as to how and when he entered the residence, but they did affirm that he had not returned to his own residence between the initial report late on Tuesday night and the shooting around 2pm on Wednesday.

He had no prior criminal convictions which would preclude him from owning a firearm.

ETA: He also killed the family dog.

If anyone else watched, please feel free to chime in. The whole presser might be linked on WGAL’s website. That’s where I watched the last 10 minutes live.

sigh ... poor doggo

Just my opinion but I believe he was there to kill the ex and my guess anyone else he found there 🙁

Det. Sgt. Cody Becker, Det. Mark Baker and Det. Isaiah Emenheiser, of the Northern York County Regional police force, were identified as the victims of Matthew Ruth, killed when they opened the unlocked front door to the home during a domestic violence probe Wednesday, said York County District Attorney Timothy Barker.

  • The shooter was wearing camouflage, according to law enforcement, and it is not yet clear to investigators whether the shooter was waiting in the cornfield for the ex-girlfriend or the arresting officers, CNN says.

Was he waiting in the house, or waiting in the corn field?

According to the presser, the front door was unlocked, and when LE opened it, he began firing from inside. LE knew that the door had been locked when they and the residents left in the early hours of Wednesday. They did not comment as to how he gained entrance except to say that they have evidence that the shooter had been extensively surveilling the property.

That’s what I was thinking too.

That's exactly my first thought, why would 5 officers be involved in serving a warrant? What is going on
5 officers on hand to serve an arrest warrant would not be unusual at all.

I am quite local to this event. If you go to this township fb page and scroll down a bit, you'll find a lengthy, detailed analysis of the events of this case given by District Attorney Tim Barker.

I don't believe he began firing from inside the farm house, but jmo. There appears to be some confusion in reporting. I think initial reports that the shooter began firing (with a silenced rifle) when the officer opened the unlocked door has lead many (including copy journalists) to just assume the shooter was inside the house.

I am now seeing more reports that seem to indicate that the shooter was dressed in camouflage and hiding in a cornfield from where he opened fire at the moment the officer opened the unlocked door.

There are media links supporting both accounts, but I think it makes more sense that he was in a close, nearby field. If so the officers at the door, even if standing aside the frame, would have still been in a direct line of fire

I've read that a drone was used by the officers to first scour the property (barn, farmhouse, at least some areas of field, etc.) before they approached the house. Im guessing he managed to go unseen due to the camouflage. A complete ambush.

The link I provided earlier includes a long detailed description of events from District Attorney Tim Barker. [removed snark]

The actor did NOT open fire on Officers from a cornfield. [removed snark]

"The door was opened and upon immediately opening the door the actor repeatedly fired at the officers with multiple rounds from an AR-15 style rifle with a suppressor immediately striking Detective Baker, striking Detective Sgt. Becker, striking at Detective Emenheiser who he and the other Northern York County Regional Detective who were there closest to the house as they tried to go back for cover position. He repeatedly fired upon them. All four detectives went down."
