I wonder if there is a form that can be filled out online and when a check is mailed, it could be processes and provided to the requester?

I bet when she gets that request, she's going to be passing it by a number of people for review.

What are the odds that I will get a visit from some State Troopers or thugs in three piece suits with no sense of humor?

Virtually no chance of a visit.

I don't think there will be any surprises in his will. I also don't think there will be any dollar amount in his will. The only thing likely to show up is when RFG signed it.

If so and if this thing turns into a novel at fifty cents a page, I might need some of you to kick in a bit.

They will tell me in advance how many pages it is and I assume if there are any issues involved in getting a copy.

This should be public record, but we all know how LE loves to start giving the third degree to folks who ask questions...

I would like to have answers about his finances as well- you just can't be sure how much anyone has squirreled away.

I have a number of relatives/acquaintances that make about what RG made. It only looks like they live frugally because they don't have any tangible material evidence of the money (high end cars, fancy homes etc). They spend their money on what I will call "disposables" Cleaning services, high end cable TV, dinners and lunches out, a nice vacation, expensive gifts to kids/exes, poor investments, hair/nail/massage appointments, personal trainers etc. You would be surprised how much $$ can be eaten up by things like that.

Someone upthread talked about what full professors make. It ranges from $60,000 to about $120,000 today*, with about 75,000 being about the average. back then, I am not sure. Also, some folks only get to full professors towards the end of their careers. Starting professors sometimes make only 30,000. Some professors start their careers with up to $100,000 in debt.

When I was going to UCLA some years ago, there was a rumor that a chemistry professor was earning about $300,000. I am not sure if that was true, but I would imagine there are a few crazy outliers. My info comes from all the professors I know and are in my family.

Well...since no one has issues with me being the one taking the hit for the team, I sent in my request to the recorder of wills naming Ray Gricar as the decedent.

I guess I will see tomorrow how many pages there are, or if I end up getting stuffed down a mine shaft by a bunch of bikers.....

I do have a list of professor average salaries in 2002-3, though not the specific professor:

BG was a full professor in business administration in 2002-03, and started (at a lower level) in 1979. The average salary was then $141,000. She also may have had outside income.

I really appreciate you doing this, and I know the other posters who follow this case are also appreciative.

IF costs get into the expensive range, then I think those of us who want to should help you with the costs of the documents.

The way I see it, we've talked for 8 years. Finally, we are getting something tangible. This is hugely valuable to me, because we do not know WHAT we are going to find out, truth be told.

I am going to be positive about this because doing anything pro-active is very positive.

I did check what is listed as "1997-98" and RFG's gross salary as DA was $105,678. So, basically since 1998, he was grossing more than $100 K per year.

From what I can tell, the estate would be less than $25,000.

LG could have moved money into some type of sheltered asset (an annuity possibly). That would not be illegal and could be used to avoid inheritance tax (legally).

It could be the overall cost of the file, which might have just a few sheets of paper. It might include thinks like the declaration of death.

It might show inheritance tax, but I suspect that most assets were sheltered some years ago.
