How much money could he have put back to make up for leaving his pension behind? Mine is worth quite a sum.

We don't know, but after his divorce, he was grossing more than $110 K per year, each year.

We don't know what his settlement was like, except the parties agreed to the settlement, and I don't think anyone has looked at his finances pre-divorce. His wife was working. The value of the house increased.

In terms of inheriting the value would start dropping in 9 months.

Hi all...I don't mean to derail the subject, but I was looking for the blog about the FBI investigation of RG in the 80's ( http://deadspin.com/5890077/what-is...ecute-jerry-sandusky-in-1998-probably-nothing) and found the FBI site with effectively a wanted poster for RG. It lists him as missing, but the page says "wanted by the FBI" ( http://www.fbi.gov/wanted/kidnap/ray-frank-gricar/view ) .Does anyone know if this means something? Not every missing person gets this treatment. Is it due to his position as DA? Just curious......

Well that was an interesting read. I wonder how much of it is factual and how much is journalistic licence..... J.J. have you seen this one before?

TG, yes, I've seen and downloaded the file.

My blog about it is here: http://www.centredaily.com/2012/04/19/3168306/gricar-ray-gricar.html

The reason for the investigation was that RFG was sworn in as a Special Assistant United States Attorney, which the federal government does with the head prosecutor in case there would be a joint issue. It is not uncommon.

That, as far as I know, is a standard MP flyer, where there could be a crime.

Snipping again:

The ask could get in there by being tracked in, but nit the smell of smoke.

There is no way, even with a wig, that BG could be mistaken for the Mystery Women; she is about 25 years older than the late 30's. The MW could have been random. If Buehner is right, and RFG was seen with the MW on 4/16, it would toss that theory.

This does bring up a point about the Helper, however. Under that theory, the Helper would have to be single, or the spouse would have to be away on the night of 4/15-4/16. That limits it a bit, but it would include BG, so far as I know.

If the Helper was not a ex or current lover, then it's a pretty good chance that the Helper was a male. I would not expect a 59 old man who lives with his girlfriend to have many close female friends. Certainly not one he would ask to aid in his disappearance.

My gut tells me that the Helper did not assist RFG primarily for financial gain. I suspect he was either a friend or someone who doesn't want RFG to be found anymore than RFG wants to be found, for whatever reason, so he helped him disappear.

I would not rule it out. He only had two close male friends.

There was a $10 K reward. If the Helper did it just for financial gain, that would give him/her an incentive to sing like a canary. :) I would agree that if there is a Helper, the help was not done for monetary gain.

Petito, who is accounted for; it is not her. I found an old friend, female, whose name they forgot to redact in his FBI file. I cannot trace her, and I don't have a first name.

JJ you should come here to the grange fair I am sure everyone you know would be happy to see you

One theory is that it is at night, when it would be difficult to see a passenger.

Further on 4/15/05, RFG was not recognizable in Lewisburg. He would be recognizable in Centre County, where his photo was in the newspaper for 20+ years and where he had been on television. They won't be seeing either in Lewisburg.

I remember something about this now. The FBI poster I mean.

So RFG could have hidden a considerable sum and been saving for years in anticipation? One thing that has always concerned me though is that in my experience of working around criminals some of them will want to kill you. Sounds too simplistic I'm sure but it happens. I was threatened so often I quit telling anyone and brushed it off as part of the job. What if RFG did that?

In theory it is possible, but DA's, or ex-DA's being targeted are very rare events.

It does happen when dealing with the public. People, often laughable, threaten. One person on trial in Centre County was planning to rape and murder the DA and then cut her up and flush her down the toilet. I was trying to figure out how he'd do that from his prison cell.

DA's probably are threatened. Criminals do get out. I was attacked by one. Been threatened for the most stupid things that I had no control over.
Maybe this is not a likely theory but it is possible. Something seems to happen when people get to retirement age or near it. I've noticed that some look back with regret at what they didn't accomplish or a love that passed them by. I'm thinking this might have happened to RFG. Maybe what was bothering him in the weeks before he left was that he didn't wish to hurt Patty and Laura. Maybe he did have a million tucked by.

A million? Whoa. I can't imagine he concealed anywhere close to that amount from the women in his life. They would have known something wasn't adding up. If he had a million tucked away, part of that total, if not most of it, was ill-gotten.

I would doubt a million, but a few $100 K would be possible; even half that would be possible.

Well it depends on what his divorce settlement was IMO. If he didn't have much in the way of savings then I can't see him walking away from a pension.
IF he was very frugal he could have saved $50,000 a year....I'm not saying he did. I can't see him walking away from his pension to live in poverty. THAT doesn't make any sense....he could have lived 20 years. That takes a lot of money.

Why would he leave a pension for that? He could have taken the pension with him.
