Article linked above from ABC27 has been updated with the victim's name: Ricardo Munoz. Police arrived at his house to investigate a "domestic disturbance" and Munoz is alleged to have run out of the home, towards police officers, with a knife raised above his head "in a threatening manner."

How unfortunate for everybody. Nobody left this scene feeling positive, I'm sure.
What do you do when someone is coming at you with a knife, especially if the guy might have already been pumped up from the domestic situation?
A man is dead. No winners here. Heaven help us all.

Thanks for posting, Richrd.

Body cam video here:

An officer answering a domestic disturbance call shot and killed Munoz around 4:15 p.m. Sunday afternoon in a brief but violent encounter in the 300 block of Laurel Street. Police body camera video released by investigators shows the officer firing as Munoz charged at him with what appears to be a large knife in his raised right hand.

The video shows Munoz rushing out of a row home at the officer, who retreats and then fires as Munoz chases him.

You are right-no matter what your perspective is, I think we can all agree that there are no winners. I used to live in Lancaster, and the people and their perspectives are diverse, and it’s complicated

Unfortunately the officer had no choice. People put themselves in these situations. The officer then has to live with the action he was forced to take. Glad the officer is ok.
It’s just sad all the way around.

The local paper had an article from the family’s point of view, where they said that “being sick is not a crime”, and it isn’t, and shouldn’t be. But they called the police because they were afraid of him, and I’m not sure what they thought the officer would do-this is what the police do. It truly is heartbreaking for the family of a schizophrenic person, and as some who live with or are associated with police officers know, this is something that the officer will never get over, either. I would not want to be on either side of this.

Devon Jacob is a civil rights attorney who is currently part of the legal team representing the family of George Floyd.

Jacob has represented police officers accused of wrongdoing and victims of police brutality. He says the police-involved shooting death of Ricardo Munoz was a tragedy, but that the officer was justified in using deadly force.

“Mr. Munoz came at the officer with a knife in his hand,” he said. “The body camera video shows the officer took appropriate action.”

What angers me is how the BLM protesters responded, even after seeing the video, of him going at the officer with the large knife in his hand.

They continued to protest, at the police department, and chanted 'ALL COPS ARE BASTARDS' and got in their faces and called them 'murdering PIGS.' And some of the activists spoke to the crowd, and claimed that the police have a duty to protect all citizens, even criminals, so it was wrong to shoot him. The officer should have used a taser...

They are just not being realistic about police work and the danger they face. This man they shot had been charged with stabbing 4 people last year, and the police came to that crime scene. They know how dangerous he can be.

even though he was a violent offender, that attacked the officer with a knife, the crowd became destructive

Once again, a huge mess with mental health...this man sounds like he's been a threat to others (and possibly himself) for a long time. Very sad ending to his life. I do feel we have to take these police shootings on a case-to-case basis. Every situation is different and police have to be able to defend themselves and citizens against extremely threatening/violent people.

I agree, someone charging at an officer or person in a density populated area or street is entirely different than being in an open non populated area.

Hearing from the family of Ricardo Munoz, the man shot and killed by police in Lancaster

Grief has befallen Munoz’s family, after he was shot and killed by police Sunday afternoon.

His parents say the 27-year-old suffered from schizophrenia and, unfortunately, was not taking his medication.

Before calling 911 on Sunday, Fernandez and Pina say the family’s first call was to Crisis Intervention, trying to deescalate the situation.

Crisis Intervention, however, told them to call police for help.

The 27-year-old had suffered issues stemming from mental disability for at least 10 years, before he was diagnosed with schizophrenia about three years ago.

His family says he would have significant mood swings and sometimes become agitated.

While they were trying to get him help, finding that help through the system was very difficult.

The grieving family says they feel very let down by the entire system.

Lancaster Mayor Danene Sorace, along with community leaders, is expressing the same concern as city leaders called for more help from the governor and state legislature to fund mental health services.

The city police force does have a social worker on staff, and another one in the hiring phase. However, that social worker was not at the call that lead to Munoz’s death.

IMO, sending a social worker to a call like that would have ended with a dead social worker. In this particular case it doesn’t look like the officer had a chance to de escalate the situation. Mr Munoz was too far into it.
The family says he’s mentally ill and not taking his meds. He has already stabbed a few people, unfortunately I think he was at the point where something like this was bound to happen.
Sending a social worker wasn’t going to help.

The mayor said budget cuts have hampered the police department's ability to respond to high-risk situations. She called on Gov. Tom Wolf and police departments and community leaders across the state to find new solutions to problems that have long plagued police departments. She said officers need to be dispatched with information that will help them make better decisions when they arrive on scene.

I really don't think that the facts are going to change BLM or any other anarchist group's minds about the police. <modsnip>

What do you do when someone is coming at you with a knife,

Do NOT do what Philly Police Offeicers did on Monday night. Simuiar situation. Somebody calls the police there's a man with a knife. Neighbor? Relative? Passerby? Cops come and guy is on his porch with the knife. They tell him to drop it while no doubt twenty people are YELLING and SCREAMING.

Mr. Wallace proceeds to come down the steps towards police. Meanwhile his mom is in the mix "don't hurt " him. The police shoot him dead. I am so sorry for his mom, and he himself if he is mentally ill, and I feel awful for the cops.

Also I feel awful that I cant get my mom's medicine because CVS was looted. Saint Martin Of Tours desecrated beyond belief. Practically all of Aramingo Avenue burned and looted. Burn down a Wawa? Sent mom to brothers cause I sooooooo knew it was coming. Came to friends on the side of Girard that wasn't boarded up looking like a third world country and where old neighbors know what is what,

Sadly two young men are dead. Also sadly several Police Officers have to pay consequences. Think about it. Who are they hiring? Who no matter how many generations back your ancestors are cops. You wanna be one? Today?

Sorry for rant, and I do understand mental health situations However I also know d#mn people using this $### to steal, burn, and wreck chaos. Hmmmmm usually in their own communities.

I saw the Wallace case. The officers didn’t have many options. I don’t know what the answer is if there is a very violent person with mental health issues. I do know the police should not be expected to allow themselves to be stabbed.
I feel badly for his family, especially his mama. I just don’t see how they can fault the police. I feel horrible for those officers! They did not go to that call thinking they would have to end a life.
As for the looting, rioting, and burning things down that is just disgusting. It needs to be dealt with strongly. It needs to be stopped.
