I was never really a big fan of Bruce although he has definitely grown on me over the years. I've discovered that it's hard to find inspiration info. about his songs. I searched for a while for ya' but wasn't able to find much.

you are so thoughful. He did a show once that I saw a few years back where he talked about the inspiration of the songs. Mostly it seemed to come from his interpretation of humans stories emotions as they engage or play out daily life.

Two of my favorites.

Sandy the fireworks are hailin' over Little Eden tonight
Forcin' a light into all those stoned-out faces left stranded on this Fourth of July
Down in town the circuit's full with switchblade lovers so fast so shiny so sharp
And the wizards play down on Pinball Way on the boardwalk way past dark
And the boys from the casino dance with their shirts open like Latin lovers along the shore
Chasin' all them silly New York girls

Sandy the aurora is risin' behind us
The pier lights our carnival life forever
Love me tonight for I may never see you again
Hey Sandy girl

Now the greasers they tramp the streets or get busted for trying to sleep on the beach all night
Them boys in their spiked high heels ah Sandy their skins are so white
And me I just got tired of hangin' in them dusty arcades bangin' them pleasure machines
Chasin' the factory girls underneath the boardwalk where they promise to unsnap their jeans
And you know that tilt-a-whirl down on the south beach drag
I got on it last night and my shirt got caught
And that Joey kept me spinnin' I didn't think I'd ever get off

Oh Sandy the aurora is risin' behind us
The pier lights our carnival life on the water
Runnin' down the beach at night with my boss's daughter
Well he ain't my boss no more Sandy

Sandy, the angels have lost our desire for us
I spoke to 'em just last night and they said they won't set themselves on fire for us anymore
Every summer when the weather gets hot they ride that road down from heaven on their Harleys they come and they go
And you can see 'em dressed like stars in all the cheap little seashore bars parked making love with their babies out on the Kokomo
Well the cops finally busted Madame Marie for tellin' fortunes better than they do
This boardwalk life for me is through
You know you ought to quit this scene too

Sandy the aurora's rising behind us, the pier lights our carnival life forever
Oh love me tonight and I promise I'll love you forever

Spanish Johnny drove in from the underworld last night
With bruised arms and broken rhythm in a beat-up old Buick
But dressed just like dynamite
He tried sellin' his heart to the hard girls over on Easy Street
But they sighed "Johnny it falls apart so easy and you know hearts these days are cheap"
And the pimps swung their axes and said "Johnny you're a cheater."
Well the pimps swung their axes and said "Johnny you're a liar"
And from out of the shadows came a young girl's voice said: "Johnny don't cry"
Puerto Rican Jane, oh won't you tell me what's your name.
I want to drive you down to the other side of town where paradise ain't so crowded, there'll be action goin' down on Shanty Lane tonight
All them golden-heeled fairies in a real 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 fight
Pull .38s and kiss the girls good night

Oh good night, it's alright Jane
Now let them black boys in to light the soul flame
We may find it out on the street tonight baby
Or we may walk until the daylight maybe

Well like a cool Romeo he made his moves, oh she looked so fine
Like a late Juliet she knew he'd never be true but then she really didn't mind
Upstairs a band was playin', the singer was singin' something about goin' home
She whispered, "Spanish Johnny, you can leave me tonight but just don't leave me alone"

And Johnny cried "Puerto Rican Jane, word is down the cops have found the vein"
Oh them barefoot boys left their homes for the woods
Them little barefoot street boys they say homes ain't no good
They left the corners, threw away all their switchblade knives and kissed each other good-bye

Johnny was sittin' on the fire escape watchin' the kids playin' down the street
He called down "Hey little heroes, summer's long but I guess it ain't very sweet around here anymore"
Janey sleeps in sheets damp with sweat, Johnny sits up alone and watches her dream on, dream on
And the sister prays for lost souls, then breaks down in the chapel after everyone's gone

Jane moves over to share her pillow but opens her eyes to see Johnny up and putting his clothes on
She says "Those romantic young boys
All they ever want to do is fight"
Those romantic young boys
They're callin' through the window
"Hey Spanish Johnny, you want to make a little easy money tonight?"
And Johnny whispered:
Good night, it's all tight Jane
I'll meet you tomorrow night on Lover's Lane
We may find it out on the street tonight baby
Or we may walk until the daylight maybe

Ahh...yes! Thanks DMV I needed that,I could hear it as I read it:)
I found an eight track copy of 'The Wild the Innocent and the E street Shuffle' at a rummage sale a few years ago.If only I still had an eight track player ! Until then Ill have to make do with the CD (THough given a choice Id rather hear Bruce on Vinyl)
You know Ive never seen him Live? It really sucks.
Ive seen videos of course but never been there.
Ive been lobbying Fender for years that they need to make a Bruce signature Esquire.
I have a 1952 reissue telecaster which is a close as im likely to get though.
After discovering Bruce during 'Darkness' I of course went back and got all his earlier albums.
I would have loved to have been along on your Asbury Park adventure that sounds right up my alley.
I would like to see that part of the country someday the farthest east ive ever been is Detroit (Prior to that trip it was Butte Montana!)
I think Tunnel Of Love is a highly underated album.Of course it came on the heels of Born In the USA so of course...
Thanks for the links....#sigh#

ah vinyl. I just got rid of my old albums, including bruce. But, I listen to the CD's all the time. I did get to see Bruce about 5 times. Once, New Years eve at the Tower in Upper Darby. It was amazing amazing amazing. We we in the first 5 rows. And... my friends got back stage. I was in the bathroom and when I came back they were gone. I also saw him at the staduim and spectrum.

Richie to loving Bruce to a entire new meaning. The last Bruce tour at the Shay staduim I think he went ever night.

Every night! Thats so awesome. I never knew him course but he has such a kind face. It makes me happy he got to do that. Thats quality of life right there.:)

  • #306
the one thing I can say about his short life here is that he knew how to smile and embrace life. He had wonderful elements of both his mom and dad's personaility. he was a beautiful soul. ...

Peace Kline et al.

If he hits Seattle im going to get there if I have to hitchhike:)
Back during the 'River' tour there was one of our local bands from Missoula where I was living at the time had manged to wrangle a gig at some dive in Seattle and they were out at some record store and ran into Bruce.
They introduced themselves completly stunned to meet him and invited him to come down that night and sit in thinking im sure that he would have far better things to do.
Mid way through thier set he showed up.
He wanted to play Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly and spent the rest of the night playing with them. That would have been awesome to be there.

Sorry to but into the "Bruce" Thread but I'm just curious if anyone has any new info on Richard & Danielle?

  • #313
...Well...if there were we probably wouldnt be talking about Bruce.
From what DMV tells us I hopefully dont think Richard would mind.:)
I hope there is some good news soon.Preferably arrests.

  • #314
I think you're right that Richie wouldn't mind. Besides, after 3 and a half years, we've probably discussed everything we possibly could relating to the case and we've become friends. And friends keep in touch even when there's nothing new to report. So if the conversation digresses once in a while during this intense, seemingly endless waiting period, I, for one, don't mind a bit. I'd much rather discuss Bruce while we wait for news than to see this thread sit here with no activity at all.

Have a good weekend friends. :blowkiss:

the amazing thing is that I just learned Richie was a Bruce fan when he went missing. And so is his father. I thought I was the only one in love with Bruce. But Richie and his friend Tommy Pelle spent all of their disposable income on Bruce.

So, Kemo, I really believe that my cousin would be pleased that we are sharing stories of Bruce in the spirit of remembering him. He was a happy happy soul that Richie. A lot like his mom in that way. Always a big laugh and smile for ya. And he wouldn't mind this at all.

As for updates... 100k for information ... that's all I got.

.... cuz tramps like us baby we were born to RUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNNNN
wow o wow..

I honestly never believed that there would be NOTHING after 3 and a half years. It's unreal.

I'm thankful for all of you that are here, keeping this thread alive for as long as it takes.

I cant explain it rationally but I feel very strongly in my heart the truth of this one will come out and justice will prevail.
I just feel it with a certainty.
I dont feel that way about most of them.
