I dont think it worked. She knew something happened.IMO.

Back in the day I saw a few guys get into few fights and really be muddy and bloody. You can tell the mudd from the blood.

It isnt like they have the redclay power dirt from OK . More black/brown soily looking.

So she hears a woman's voice crying, wailing and screaming NOOOOOOO, and hears crashing sounds, so she calls her bf? Why not call 911 ?

I have some issues believing her thinking it was mud. There has been no appreciable rain for several days and the area received .57 of an inch in the month of May.

Actually my yard is still very wet from quite a bit of rainfall we had earlier in the Spring. The apartment complex sits at the bottom of a very steep hill (I live up near the top of the hill, but still in an area that seeps water like you wouldn't believe!). The bottom of this hill is also home to an old creek that runs underneath a lot of the homes. Historical documents show that, in order to grow the community they tried to fill in the creek, but that area is still very wet. In fact, East Chestnut Street used to be called Water Street because of the underground water. So, the possibility of mud is not out of the question.

However the reaction to the noise, coupled with him coming in "muddy" when he was just out exercising would make a normal person pause to try and figure out if he was in a fight, or something similar.

Our soil in this part of Pennsylvania is extremely heavy with clay, both red and dark. The drainage is very poor, especially on the hills.

I apologize, I did think you were talking about Skylers Dad. I do, however, find it odd that with all the information coming out, why no one has ever mentioned this.

I don't know, I know I shouldn't be judging- especially after such a horrible tradgedy, but I think eating would be the last thing on my mind. Going out in public (with all the publicity surrounding this case) would definitely not be something I would do.

I think this is clear without being offensive. I certainly tried for an hour to make it that way.


I look at these situations with a "what would have changed the outcome here?"

Not what "might" have changed it. That doesn't teach us anything. That's why I follow these cases... not to judge or hate or scream about how people are evil... I want to learn something.


If the cops had arrested him a few weeks ago, what would have happened?

He "might" have been in jail, or he "might" have bailed out.

That "might" have prevented him from killing Skylar or it "might" have angered him more.


If Skylar had been inside, what would have happened?

It's highly unlikely he would have broken into her apartment with her mother and grandmother there to abduct her. This would have prevented him from killing Skylar.


If adults had been outside with Skylar and her friends, what would have happened?

It's highly unlikely he would have taken Skylar with an adult or two watching from a few feet away. This would have prevented him from killing Skylar.

It's possible he may have taken her friend instead if she was unsupervised.


I don't think them arresting him a few weeks ago would have guaranteed Skylar and the other girl's safety.

I think Skylar and the other girl's being with an adult at all times would have ensured their safety.


Like the little girl at the laundromat... guy tries to take her... Mom grabs her back. Then when the girl is unsupervised guy comes back and takes her. He didn't fight Mom to get her, he just came back later when Mom left her alone.

I think this would have been the same situation. Without a clear opportunity to take a girl with no witnesses, I don't think he would have done it.


I think the lesson to be learned from this is, take these things seriously.

If your child is approached by a guy who tries to take them, or corner them, or expose themselves to them. Take that seriously, whether they can be charged or not. Act as if your child is being stalked.

That is a situation in which you should not be worried about overreacting.

Assume that person will come back and abduct your child. Imagine the parents who would have loved to have a warning like that... Somer Thompson... Samantha Runnion... my own family with my cousin...

I agree. Small town or not. I live in a small community north of a bigger town. I will not even let my kids play on the playground or go to the concession stand at our little local baseball park without me. They are 11, 9, 7, and 4. Yes, almost all the other parents allow their children to do so, but I do not. I live on a long country road with few neighbors, in a quiet rural community. I would NEVER let my children ride a bike on the main road. Even my oldest son is not allowed to the restroom in a store without me standing very close to the front door, and don't think I won't go in there if my hunky meter goes off. Some might call me paranoid, but I also have four alive, beautiful children and I plan to do everything in my power to keep them that way. They deserve no less!

More information emerges about previous incident involving Kauffman, Troutman

Troutman asked the girls if they wanted to see his bird, according to the criminal complaint filed against him on Tuesday. The law enforcement source said that was not an innuendo; it referred to birds Troutman collected with wooden bird feeders he made and kept outside the apartment.

Souderton police investigated the event and talked to all involved, the law enforcement source said, and determined that the incident was a misunderstanding and there was no action that would be cause for charges against Troutman.

I'm answering gently - the unbearable quiet at home would make me crazy. I have a seven year old - I couldn't stand it - I probably wouldn't want to just be with my mom either (she's lived with my daughter and I for a couple of years). Everything in my apt revolves around my daughter - it would kill me if something happened. I think there are plenty of screaming thoughts through her head - being in public may quiet some of it for just a few minutes. I just don't think there should be any harshness towards the mom..

This is terrible.

Police say Troutman took Skyler down two short sets of stairs to the basement where he raped the 9-year-old and killed her.

Heather was in the apartment above and heard screams, thinking they were coming from the apartment above hers.

"It's not unusual to hear screaming, laughter, on the occasion if a child is throwing a tantrum, telling their parents 'no,'" Clemens said.

Clemens says a while later, Troutman returned home and said he had been exercising at the track.

"He was very sweaty and he was covered in what looked like mud to me, dried mud, on his clothing from his chest down to his shoes," Clemens said.

She now knows it was blood, not mud.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Montgomery County coroner released the official cause of death for Skyler Kauffman.

According to Coroner Walter Hofman, Skyler died of asphyxia and multiple blunt force injuries, ruling her death as a homicide.
