PA - Small plane crashes in Northeast Philadelphia

Some could be volunteers, especially when working with charities. But most air ambulance fixed wing and helicopter life flights are paid positions.

My late sister was a respiratory therapist who mainly worked with premature babies.

She voluntarily worked air transports for premi babies from small rural hospitals to the large hospital she worked at in Sacramento.

While she was paid to do this work she really enjoyed the trips and had no fear of flying.

One of the first things the injured 10-year-old boy asked when he woke up in the hospital was about his little sister and the Super Bowl, he dad says.

"He asked me, 'Daddy, what's today?' I was like, 'Monday.' 'OK, wait. We didn't play yesterday did we?' 'No, you didn't miss the Super Bowl,'" Andre said, describing his son as a die-hard Eagles fan.

He was also concerned for his little sister.

"It had me crying," Andre said, recalling when Trey asked, "Daddy, did I save my sister?"

"'You told us to get down. I was just trying to help my sister.. next thing I know, I thought I died,'" Andre said his son told him in the hospital.

WATCH FULL: Officials provide update on deadly medical jet crash in NE Philadelphia​

Recap of the update for those who prefer them over watching a video (which includes myself more often than not, tbh).

The NTSB has completed their on scene investigation and have removed any and all evidence needed to continue moving forward. The city has multiple cleanup crews working around the clock, as well as overnight tonight, to get the area back to open and up and running as possible. They expect most businesses in the area to be cleared to open at some point tomorrow, however there are some businesses and residences that are not structurally sound enough to return to (and those, of course, will remain closed). They advised anyone who does work or live in the area to continue to avoid it until they have opened it back up.

They issued a reminder about the community town hall meeting tomorrow night at 7 pm.

The Red Cross has transitioned the few who were being sheltered at a school to a more long term accommodation and the shelter will close tonight. All told, 366 properties were initially displaced (both businesses and homes). There was no mention of how many were still displaced. The woman who was reported to have been possibly missing from the area has been located and is safe. They aren’t aware of anyone else who may be missing or unaccounted for in the area, but they won’t know definitively until the forensic investigation is fully complete.

Are you thinking that the pilots just became confused and inadvertently stalled the plane? Possible I suppose, but it seems unlikely. I am betting more on some mechanical fault or perhaps load shift maybe. Is there anything large enough that could have gotten loose inside the aircraft and quickly rolled to the back of the airplane on take off? I don't know.

Full fuel tanks and an oxygen tanks on board, while maybe not contributing to the cause of the malfunction, must have quickly turned the aircraft into an accidental incendiary device.

I am with you on the oxygen tank theory. Something to do with the airplane pressurizing on ascent with, possibly a full tank of pressurized oxygen? Not sure, but this is based on one of the video's I watched....I thought the airplane was a fire ball in the air, before the free fall.

I agree. I sure hope they can make sense out of the wreckage and figure things out.

The security-cam footage had that thing headed for the ground at full speed. That sounds like a disastrous mechanical failure of some kind to me, too.

I agree- the NTSB will get to the bottom of it: I watch Air Disasters on the Smithsonian channel and believe me they are the best in the world at finding the cause of a crash. They work hard and they leave no stone unturned. Unfortunately this week has been a bad week for crashes so they will be very busy.

The videos I have seen of the crash, the plane does not appear to be on fire before impact. I think some of the videos are just amplifying the plane's lights and making it very bright. There is a video I just saw for the first time that shows the plane coming down from the side and so you don't have those glaring lights. The plane does not appear on fire in anyway. But it goes in to the ground like a dart.
