My late sister was a respiratory therapist who mainly worked with premature babies.Some could be volunteers, especially when working with charities. But most air ambulance fixed wing and helicopter life flights are paid positions.
She voluntarily worked air transports for premi babies from small rural hospitals to the large hospital she worked at in Sacramento.
While she was paid to do this work she really enjoyed the trips and had no fear of flying.
