Memo:

Unless it's something new change wise, Shelby Systems is absolutely NOT tied to this scammy guy.

His church may use it, but probably 60% of churches DO use it.

It was really one of the first, and probably still the best, church database software.

You can do amazing things with it and it's a great tool for churches (or other non-profits, probably too).

I've worked with them when they were relatively new and have used them until the present time.

Yes, you can track who gives and/or when and even how often, along with a zillion other options and you can customize it for what you need.

Nearly all larger churches allow for donations/tithing online because nowadays many people want to do it by credit card - especially for special gifts or larger gifts - b/c so many people earn airline miles or points or whatever and because so few people even carry checkbooks nowadays, and for those who tithe weekly over monthly or whatever then if you're gone the week you usually tithe then often people will do it online. Just like everything else in the world can practically be done online, churches discovered they kind of needed to do more of that, too.

And so yes, there are sites where giving online ties into Shelby Systems, but that's b/c they can generate end of the year donation letters for tax purposes, etc. incredibly easily.

I'm pretty sure they're TN based - or at least they were when they first came out and helped us get set up on it.

Has anyone seen any posts from that Sparkle thing (like from anyone who went)?

It'd be interesting to know if they addressed Hope not being there beyond the little note on that horrid FB page.

Then again, with how haphazard it was, there were probably only like 20 people there and they were probably all the exhibitors so maybe there wouldn't need to be anything said!

Still no news? Wonder what the sermon will be tomorrow?

I think his sermon could replicate Jimmy Swagart's, infamous 'I Have Sinned Lord".

  • #925
OT, but Swaggart is still around. It was suprising Tuesday night to see him pop up in a commercial during Sons of Anarchy. There are usually different types of commercials during that show, but there pops ups Jimmy Swaggart. He must have arranged that time slot.

there are still folks in Louisiana who think 'brother jimmy' is the best thing since sliced bread. they believe it was all a set up and he is a godly man...

where is the vomit smiley?

  • #927
Yeah, well there are still apparently people drinking Jim Bakers kool aid too. I was channel grazing the other day and there he was begging for money. Disgusting.

I looked over RC's FB yesterday and there were some comments that may have indicated he spoke about Hope last Sunday. Did anyone listen to his "speech" by chance?

I really don't want to listen to it, if someone else already has. If not, I will take one for the team if you all want me to. There's no reason why more than one of us needs to be subjected to the nausea.

Take one for the team. I'll supply the nausea medicine. :floorlaugh:

Ok, I listened to all of that and took notes here at the same time. I lost it all when I went to post, so I'll just go from memory.

He didn't mention Hope by name at all. He stated that he was not going to slow down because of his troubles at home. He said he's not built like that.

He wants to open 100 satellite campuses across the US in small towns where they will live stream him preaching. He is going to start a franchise school at the beginning of the year for people that want to run the campuses. He said he will hand pick the people from the school to run them. He has been contacted by a company from London? that has hologram technology so he will look real from the live stream.

At the end of next year he is going to start a online bible college so people will know their theology and not go out and preach crazy stuff.

He preaches about sexual sin and lost time and getting that time back. He's preaching Ephesians 5 and I'm getting the impression he is throwing Hope under the bus as usual and giving reason for why she won't be coming back.

He places particular emphasis on things that seem IMO, to point at Hope. I get the feeling he's talking to her to hurt her and also giving excuses for his own actions. I don't want to get anymore specific because I'm afraid I'll word something wrong.

SBM for focus

So others won't go out and preach crazy stuff?

Thanks, Beginners, for suffering through his sermon for the rest of us.

Ya thanks Beginners for listening and saving the rest of us from it! I can't go there anymore.....he's a lunatic and I can't see how anyone finds him or his message appealing. Totally creepy guy in every way.....I always feel like I need a shower after I see his photo, much less watch his videos!

Two women were sitting in the audience and the camera focused on them 2 or 3 times. They didn't appear to be very impressed with him. I wish I would have marked the spot so I could go back and take a second look and make sure I wasn't imagining anything.

Usually, they focus on people that are really getting into the preaching. This is going to drive me crazy now. Their expressions reminded me of how ours may look if we were sitting in the audience. I had to wonder if there was a reason for the camera focus.

I haven't tried keeping up with this story much, as I know there will never be anything new to report or read. If......if Hope is truly a victim, as in locked up in someone's basement against her own will, then my heart goes out to her. However, the family and church's handling of this situation makes me sick and I don't feel an ounce of pity for that family. Based on my own observations (of social media and the family), they all seem rather screwed up on every level considering the circumstances.

The fact that any of these people represent a religion they sell to others is sickening, IMO. I have many more thoughts right now, but will keep this short[er].

I checked my "subscribed threads" and saw there was a new post. I am not surprised there is no news. Now and then, when this thread is bumped (a reminder to me of Hope) I will google "where is Hope Carpenter". The usual news articles from when this first broke are the first to show up. Never anything new. Tonight I googled again and found this blog. Has it been posted already and I just missed it?? I have never seen it in my usual google search until tonight. If it has been posted, then ignore me. It is so easy to overlook links on long threads!

Its been posted, but thanks for bringing it up because newer readers might have missed it.

I agree, no one is going to go looking for a hope for at least a year after the time she went missing, because they believe everything this vile creep, tells them. I do not believe she is in rehab. MOO opinion is that he has killed her and his cover story is giving him a year to come up with something to explain her never coming back, or being found deceased.

Its possible she has taken off on her own and doesn't have a clue people are wondering where she is. She might be on a beach somewhere sipping a drink.

But I'm leaning to the first one. MOO of course.

ah. lol it figures. thanks!

it is odd to me that even his daughter on twitter who is super combative and mean wont even answer super nice concerned questions from members of their church. and again, nobody is saying anything about hope on his FB page/twitter. not an ounce of concern or encouragement for her.

it is all to 'jim jones' for me.

BBM, Thanks TBug! Your post was really helpful in explaining Shelby, what they do and how they help churches. Very interesting post indeed. I had never given thought to the fact that churches need accounting software that is geared towards their needs. Well, as I always say, " You lean something new everyday".

Here's to hoping that Hope reveals herself for the new year. Hopefully she is still alive, and if she is being held against her will, may she break free, and go one to have a happy life.
