Patricia Garrido

I just had a thought. I wonder if perhaps Patricia Garrido Franzen, being a realator and all, had other rental houses around the area at earlier points in time. Maybe Phillip lived in some of them when he got out of high school from the years 69-73, or when he married his first wife, Christine. Do we have an address where they lived when they were first married? Unfortunately, online records don't go back that far to see if Patricia Garrido had recorded any more Grant Deeds. Anyway, this would all be interesting information. The Elm street house is interesting to me particularly because they had it from 1982 to 1999, but in some of the older cases, it would be interesting to know if there were other rentals. If a rental house of Patricia's was vacant for any length of time, I see no reason at all why Creepy Phil couldn't have or wouldn't have used it for some of his nasty deeds. In 1988, he could have abducted Micheala and taken her to a vacant rental property. He also could have picked up the prostitutes and taken them to a vacant rental property and then dumped their bodies on the roads.

I know this is probably just a coincidence but look at the street name where this little girl was abducted. There are sure a lot of other similarities though.

Cynthia Lynn Sumpter
Sumpter was last seen playing in the front yard of her family's apartment house on Elm Street in San Jose, California on April 27, 1974. She has never been heard from again. Sumpter's mother began looking for her between 1:30 and 1:45 p.m. that same day. When she had searched for half an hour with no result, she called police. A massive search of San Jose turned up no sign of the child. Witnesses report that she was in a blue car driven by an unidentified young man with blond hair and a moustache; these sightings have not been confirmed. Sumpter's parents had had a bitter divorce a year before her disappearance and each one accused the other of hiding her. Both her mother and father passed polygraph tests and police ruled them out as suspects.

Maybe it's just me, but that other picture of Garrido, the one he put on his press release where we can't identify his age, his hair looks really lighter brown than the others, like maybe he'd been coloring his hair? Anyway, this was April 27, 1974, were there any rental houses held by Patricia that were vacant at that time? Ya'll can see where I'm going with this, right?

I think his hair looks lighter also - perhaps he was out in the sun more or whatever. Many people also refer to light brunettes as blondes even though I wouldn't

Good thinking on all your posts Billie

San Jose is also closer to Half Moon Bay....

Five-year-old Anna Waters wandered out onto her parents’ back porch after school while her mom made soup in the kitchen on a rainy day in January of 1973. Then she disappeared without a trace.

Could it be Garrido or someone was operating in this area in the early 70's?

He was under federal parole supervision prior to 1999, presumably different people were supervising him then, they should have known where he was.

The inspector general's office was supposed to complete their report in 30 days, that was reported in SunnieRN's link dated Sept 30, so that report should be out any day now.

I remember reading recently that PG was released from Federal Parole in 1993 and was suppose to register in Calif. but didn't until 1999 because " he was failed to be told to register". Does anyone know where this article is?

Yep, all good questions. Hopefully LE is on it, cuz I don't know who else would be able to ascertain all the rental information. Was it ALWAYS rented out? Cuz if not, Phillip would have had keys to it and well, like I said, maybe LE should be looking for evidence over there. Yikes!

You have done some outstanding work here, Billylee! Do you think a tip should be called in to the Alameda County SO with this info? I think the chances of it being checked out is better with Alameda than it would be with the Contra Costa County SO. It seems like alarming enough info to qualify as a tip, don't you think?

That Doug French sounds like one smart fella...

After the arrest of the Garridos, Anna's brother called me to say that Nancy looked like the woman he recalled involved in the prior abduction attempt of his sister. Unfortunately, Nancy and Phillip did not know each other in 1973, so the appearance is coincidental. But it is possible that Garrido was working with a different woman in 1973... :waitasec:

I was just going to post that we needed Dr. Doogie! Then...poof...there you are! Do you think your "source" would be interested in helping sort through some of the info Billylee and others have uncovered in this thread? I know the media has more resources than we do and this could be a good lead, especially the Elm St. rental property.

Yes, he certainly does ;)

I know the connection might be thin, but I was also wondering about Garrido operating with another woman. One article talks about his first wife helping to find women for him, and, while I haven't verified this, it sounded like she knew about the/a storage unit. I'm not saying SHE was the other woman at that time, just that I think it was very likely he would have had another woman.

Given that - what other cold cases had tips where a woman and a man were sighted?

I had TIME on my side! Get it?? lol

No, he was briefly in federal prison, and then under home confinement for a few months in 1993 as a result of a parole violation, after which he was released back into federal parole. His federal parole ended in 1999, after which he was transferred to the state parole system to serve out his Nevada state parole. It was when he was transferred to the California parole system that the failure to register was picked up and rectified.

Natal said:
He was supposed to register, but he didn't. It has been suggested that no one told him that he had to, and apparently that isnt unusual. Either way, LE investigating the case would not have had his name pop up when they compared other leads against know sex offenders in the general area, because he wasnt on the list.

When he came off Federal supervision and onto State supervision in 1999, the oversight was picked up and he was registered then. But that was way too late to help LE with their investigations.

Okay. I was going by your post above, but I see where I went wrong. For some reason this just isn't sticking in my memory.

So, Natal, is this information snipped form the timeline incorrect? A lot of us I think are referring to the timeline in our research. It's been very helpful, but if there are indescrepancies or errors, I guess we should note them. So could you post links to your info. Thank you much.

Garrido is granted parole from his federal sentence on January 20, 1988. (Source: Federal Bureau of Prisons)

Garrido turned over to Nevada authorities (Northern Nevada Correctional Center) on 1/22/1988 to serve the remainder of his state sentence for rape.

Garrido released to parole from the Nevada Department of Corrections on August 26, 1988. He was on federal parole supervision and Nevada parole supervision in the state of California. He was paroled to live in Antioch, California. (Source: Nevada Department of Corrections, Nevada Department of Public Safety) Note: this conflicts with the following information that he was paroled to a hallway house in Oakland, which came from various news sources:

Garrido paroled to an Oakland halfway house 8/26/1988.

Garrido left the Oakland halfway house and went to Lake Tahoe in November 1988; he went to the roulette table where his 1976 victim was working and greeted her by name.

Garrido in Oakland halfway house 8/29/1988 - 12/16/1988, under Federal Bureau of Prisons oversight. He was possibly there doing community service work.

Don't forget that Christine and pg lived in Reno as she was a dealer at one of the casino. Reno to Brentwood, Antioch, Sacramento, San Jose, even Half Moon Bay, are all easy one day trips. Wonder if we could track the dates the summit was closed in those years and eliminate part of the cases that way?

Don't think that would work because you'd never have known which side of the mountain he was hanging his hat on in the first place.

I was just thinking that anyone who lives in that area with a Contra Costa County Library Card ought to be able to go to the library and look at old newspapers from say 1998 for the prostitute murders, or however far their archives go back to the other murders/missing, to check and see if the Elm St. property was listed in the classifieds as "for rent". You might be able to do this online, but I see you still need a library card. Is there a local Antioch paper that can be checked out for that also?

Excellent post Billylee. Jaycee doesn't have to be brainwashed-just totally traumatized, living in hyper vigilance and not knowing what will be coming next. I'm sure she learned how to live, just like any abused wife does. Don't get the perv upset, but of course, you can never tell what will upset the perv.If you think of any traumatic situation that has happened to you, you will realize that causes anxiety in you. I saw a rat run once as a child and that totally freaked me out forever. I know, big deal. So think of real trauma. I would guess that what Patricia was happy about was that she had a slave in her darling Nancy who would cater to her every need and she had her darling son with her. Who cares what the circumstances as her (Patricia's) every need was met. I'm sure as she was the cash cow for them and that's why she was taken care of. Just because people live and survive doesn't mean that life was "normal" for them. People survive under the most incredibly awful circumstances.

:snail: Do you think JC still felt as traumatic by age 29 as she certainly was
at age 11? Part of the disagreement between us is the ease with which 18
years in the Garrido household can be telescoped, when there may have been
a threshhold somewhere when the Garrido's went from lions to lambs, the
transition not to the polar extreme.
:cat: What's good news to me is that the children would have no recollection
of the "lion" phase, in contrast to the battery and malnutrition experienced by
our foster children, and enjoy good prospects for their future.
