Penn State Sandusky Trial #10

I admit I'm a little concerned as well but I didn't think Jerry was going to testify. At least not since the timeline was announced as the defense resting at 12 noon tomorrow. There's just not enough time, so I think it was probably decided over the weekend that he wasn't going to testify. I think they are probably confident; they've definitely hit V4 pretty hard. It seems like the only thing that prosecution scored on was their psychiatrist.

I know Dottie said the kids were basically liars, connivers, clingy and needy, but she also came across(at least in the tweets) pretty badly. So, even if she called them out, if the jury feels any sympathy for the victims or believes them, I think they might not like that. She also came across as delusional. But that's my reading of tweets, lol.

But I admit I am worried that Sandusky will get away with what he did and he'll be out there, lurking and preying upon young boys again. :/

I hope that reasonable minds on the jury will take Dottie's testimony for what it was: A wife trying desperately to make her spouse look like the well-respected man that everyone believed him to be. She knows differently, but Dottie has been "groomed" to stand by her man. :moo:

Dottie Sandusky revolted me with her testimony. I think she saw these little boys as seducers of her husband. She has no compassion at all. Of course, even though she was probably aware of the serial rapes of many young boys and did nothing, she won't be charged with anything. This trial is really getting under my skin, and I'm afraid I'm going to get another punch in the stomach at the end, just like last year at this time.

I am feeling much the same way. I really wish I knew more about this jury. I have very little confidence in some juries lately. I am just worried that this case can go either way still. They might be convinced that these 'kids' were just put up to this by greedy lawyers, and poor Jerry was just a victim. I really hope not because I don't think i can take it again. :furious:

This has been a difficult trial to follow on so many levels. In a way, I'm glad it wasn't televised. However, tweets and the occasional comment by those tweeting don't give us the same emotional hit.

The jury saw all the "alleged" victims, as the defense says, and saw their demeanor and their emotions. The jury saw the character witnesses. They saw Dottie testify. They saw her husband turn away when she looked at him.

I pray that this well-educated group of people are able to sort it out and come up with a just group of verdicts.

I so wish we could at least see the closing arguments.

I know we all get a little nervous when the defense presents their case following the prosecution. We start to worry, wonder what the jury will think because of a defense witness's testimony. I'm sorry, the prosecution's case is too strong. The victims testimonies were very courageous, very truthful. I believed them. I sincerely think that the jury will come back with a guilty verdict. I hope and pray that I'm not wrong....

Yes, there's so much being communicated in that room that we're not privy to, the very nature of these accusations exist on a subtextual level: we can't feel the tension rise and fall, we don't hear the sighs and exasperation, we don't feel the interest of the jury wander away, we don't know when they're on the edge of their seats.

Not only that, but the level of journalism has been rushed with details but short on well pondered nuance. I hope the jury deliberates long enough for the real writers to sink their teeth into a few good essays. jmo

I hope so as well but I can't imagine anyone being convinced by a spouse. She came across as someone who was in denial or as you say, who has been groomed. I mean she basically backs up the story of V4 in the hotel room but relays a different story of what Sandusky was pissed about. I'm sorry but would anyone be that pissed off over a $50.00 luncheon/banquet? I get being ticked that you wasted your money but not as angry as he seemed to be, so I just don't buy that scenario.

I just hope the jury uses common sense.

JVM confirmed what we thought. There was no cross of Dottie. I had hoped the prosecution wouldn't bother. In this situation, not crossing tells the jury her testimony doesn't mean much. KWIM? LOL! Wendy Murphy said that, too. I wish I had written what I was thinking before she said it!

According to Beth Karas, they went after #4 because he had the most corroborating testimony to back him up. That means to me that he was more than likely one of the most convincing witnesses.

I feel for #4, getting so trashed.

The banquet tickets were probably comped. JS didn't have to pay for them. :moo:

Plus the horrible strain of denial of the truth right in front of your eyes 24 hours a day...they have probably spent more time together since JS was arrested than they have in their entire marriage...

Plus trying to maintain the facade of the social position she once had and knows is now gone for good and the dread of losing everything if he is found guilty.

Even IF he is found not guilty and she gets to kept all her 'things' she knows her life will never be the same, and there is no 'out'...how could she leave now after standing up for him in public?

Yep, I guess it is surely painful and stressful to have to ignore your conscience all this time.

Feel the same katydid23. I think that a lot of us are forever "jury shy". I don't feel comfortable with any jury at this time. I guess nothing will surprise me now. I do hope that this very "Penn State, football fan jury" will do the right thing.

Not that it matters but I just noticed that my post count isn't moving at all when I post.

My 24 yr old son and his best friend were here earlier. I had the tv on and shussed them when CNN was giving a short report on the trial. My son's friend
thinks Sandusky MIGHT be wrongly accused. I cannot be too hard on him because he was wrongly accused of date rape when he was in college. It was a gut wrenching and horrifying experience for the poor kid. Luckily she recanted and admitted it was all a big lie. But he ended up switching schools and losing a year of college, and had major stress and some financial fallout.

So when I argued with him about this case, he had ready answers about how this might be a faulty accusation. And that worries me.

Amendola will be trying for Victim 6 tomorrow.

Amendola is trying a "Salami Tactic," slowly slice away at the case. I don't think he succeeded with Victim 4.

The only thing I could see against Victim 6 is if he'd call Karen Arnold, and she'd testify that they didn't have a case in 1998; the judge said they did in 2012, with less evidence. That would run counter to interview reports with grand jury. Arnold also praised Schreffler, who said they did.

Further, I wouldn't be too surprised if the AG has a rebuttal witness.

:what:

This is what it looks like when all of the jurors who use common sense meet for a convention:
:desert::hot:

And this is your typical jury found in high profile criminal cases circa 2012:
