None of them had a clue what compassionate, humane or doing the right thing meant.
While your statement is certainly true back2back, these men did do what was right. What was right for them to continue their jobs, that is. By 2002, they had plenty to cover up if there is truth to Jerry's sexual abuse of young boys being known or suspected way back in the 1990s.
I can only figure one core reason any of them in the know about Jerry would want to abandon plans to report Jerry's behavior to authorities. And that would be, in my opinion, to protect themselves, their jobs with a large University; the football program reputation; their own lifestyles and future. Either they decided this on their own or orders came from someone else who had enough pull to point out their fate if they went with plan A.
There are just so many way this cover-up can be twisted or attempted to be explained.
I do believe that after the report is released, there will be a great number of people who will point to Curly and Schultz and say that since the Coach is gone and can't tell his side, these two men are now putting the blame on JoePa.
I think we are all on the doorstep of some explosive finger pointing, wild rumors, and plenty of heated arguments to keep the halo above Coach Joe's head, once the investigative report is made public. Fasten your seat belts, as Bette Davis said, we are in for a bumpy ride.
