...Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Paul Posluszny, an All-American for Penn State in 2005 and 2006, addressed the issue before a large contingent of reporters Wednesday, according to the Florida Time-Union.

"We had the opportunity to be right, to solve a problem, to fix something, and we didn't," Posluszny said. "And that hurt."

Asked when he'll feel comfortable wearing Penn State gear again, Posluszny said he didn't know. "This situation is just an unbelievable black eye for the program and it's going to be tough because whenever anybody says Penn State or you see Penn State, sexual assault of young kids is what's going to come mind, and that's such an unfortunate thing."

Yep Steely....................

This story has such far reaching ramifications. I thought about all the pro players that are out there that came from this program. I was wondering last night if any of those "now pros" will come forward as a victim? Or, was it possible that some people were "paid off" over the years to keep their traps shut?

The more we hear, the more I'm saying that certain people (plural) knew for quite a long time. And THAT is so very wrong.

It appears this may be the "bombshell" new allegation we were told would be coming last night.....

One question I would like to hear asked of the Penn State alum is "were there any rumors about Sandusky around the team?"

From what I've seen and heard so far from former players it appears that nobody who played since 1999 had any idea of any of this.

If that's true then you have a whole offshoot investigation that could involve many people at Second Mile. :furious::banghead:

Yea, it does appear that the players that were post-Sandusky were basically clueless about it all.

In that article above - this could become very very very very very nasty, if that rumor is true. I wouldn't doubt that the "now rumor" is well likely to be. These freaks tend to "flock together" - KWIM? But wealthy boosters? We are now bordering on the congressional page scandal from back in the day.

WTH is wrong with all these "men"? This is just so sick. SO SICK! Most men that I've talked to about this in the past few days are just as sickened as I am. Where is this culture of "such deviant, psychologically disturbing behavior" coming from? Its SICK I tell you SICK!!!!

I got to thinking this morning-- I have a lot of empathy for the current football players at Penn State. How embarrassed they must be that they have to put on that jersey Saturday. I'm not sure I could do it.

Ya know, I was thinking about this last night. We have the semester ending shortly and I have to wonder how many students will withdraw at Xmas break. I agree that if my child was enrolled at Penn State that I would have a long talk with him/her about continuing their education elsewhere.

We'll have to wait and see how the enrollment numbers are after Xmas. But my money is on those numbers will drop significantly.

This never occurred to me until I read your post. If I saw a resume from a PSU grad, I would never say "oh, he went to the 'child molester school', forget him..." I can't imagine an employer doing that either.

Now, if one of the LEADERSHIP involved in this submitted a resume, that would be a different story.

The leadership involved in this situation is tainted, and rightly so. But not the students. They have done nothing wrong. PSU has very good academic programs. It's unfair to paint everyone associated with PSU with the same filty dirty brush.

And I'm not a Penn State alum.

Joe Paterno Fired: Penn State Students Riot in Protest

"Thousands of enraged Penn State students tore through the streets of State College, Pa., overnight to protest the firing of Joe Paterno after the longtime head football coach was removed from his position effective immediately."

I simply cannot believe that all these students are protesting this firing.....WTH?

My good friend's son goes to Penn State and I just emailed her - she said yes some students were acting up, but her son, and those he knows felt that anyone involved had to go, including the Coach.

Curiosity, mob mentaility and the lure of tv cameras can bring out the worst in some folks.

ITA with you about students and alumni. I think the best way to describe what I would feel as a parent with a student there would be "trust". Hearing that some of this "deviant behavior" was taking place on campus, in a student locker room / shower - that would worry me about the security and/or responsibility of the people in charge. Does that make sense? More of a - I wouldn't want my daughter at a university that had reported 10 or more rapes in the past two years, just as much as I wouldn't want my child at a univeristy where horrible sexual child abuse occured in an on-campus locker/shower. If "they'll cover that up" then WTH else is going on with a blind eye being turned type of thing.

I'm just horrified by this. I know children are abused, I read here all day but this has just done it for me. I am already over protective, leery of adults that spend to much time w/ kids. I work from home SO that I can be w/ my youngest at lunch or to pick him up everyday. He won't be going to 5th grade camp w/o me, I'm already signed up. No way will i let him go to overnight sports camp. How can i teach my son to trust, when i trust no one.??

It hurts so much that these little boys were used and ignored by the men they should be looking up to. Little boys LOVE having other males, especially grown men around, I can see my son light up when he talks about his (first) male teacher, oh how I hate cringing that this great teacher gives them bear hugs.

I'm so mad that there are humans that walk this earth and bring nothing but hell and seething hatred to mind! I am so mad at every single person who has heard about this going on or witnessed this going on and LET it continue. These men were boys once, they know how much they, themselves look to other males for guidance.

I read something during all of this, that the second news like this hits your ears, your hand should be on the phone calling LE. period. i can't imagine the guilt some of these witness's must feel but I can't feel bad for them, only for those boys they threw to the wolves. My God!

Penn State, per se, did not do this. Some unscrupulous men did. The school should not be punished past making retribution to the victims and cleaning house. Students at Penn State should not be held in less esteem for being a Penn State Alum. The students didn't do it, nor did the "entity" - some bad, gutless men did this and they should be removed from the system and sent to jail and they should never, ever, ever be allowed to watch a football game again!

From the article:
Paterno had his flaws back then, too, but we were too busy deifying him to notice. They became more evident as he grew older and his "senior moments" often became too cringe-worthy to dismiss. His program endured a spat of player arrests in the early 2000s, for which he assumed almost no responsibility. Prior to the 2006 Orange Bowl, he tastelessly made light of sexual assault allegations against a Florida State player. We came to recognize that Paterno, in his 70s and 80s, lacked the generational and cultural awareness of his peers, but Penn State let him keep coaching out of deference to his legacy. That proved to be an enormous mistake.

This so-called "legend" should have been gone long ago, IMO.

BBM. There is no way to make restitution, which is what I think you meant to say.

I have read several fiction novels where this is part of the plot but am horrified if it actually happened, especially in these circumstances where the boys just wanted to do football camp. I fear this will get much uglier before it settles down.

It is acknowledged by the author as a RUMOR, so let's just pray it's exactly that and nothing more. You can say that my head in buried in the sand, but I will give this no more attention unless it's somehow substantiated.

The (allegedly) forthcoming scandal was actually reported last night via Twitter, and is independent of the Mark Madden comments of earlier today:

This is a deadly serious matter. Keep the victims in your thoughts. Cannot emphasize that enough. In your thoughts.

If what I was told tonight about the details of the new allegation in Sandusky child sex case is true, it will horrify the public.
