Surinam is also very corrupt. For a little money he could buy himself a way to secrecy.

Surinam is no more corrupt than many of the countries that he would traverse on his way there. Also corruption works both ways: Police in Latin America sometimes use small bribes to bring in fugitives.

Plus an internationally known fugitive would need more than a "little money."

Would he contact her?

I doubt he will commit suicide. I doubt also that he will ever tell what happened to Natalee. I think the best to hope for is one of his friends coming out and telling what happened. I really thought the kalpoes would show more character in the beginning, but it didn't turn out that way. Maybe they will tell the truth now...I hope.

Some sociopaths, especially jailed, bored ones with nothing but time on their hands, LIKE to tell their story...So you never know...Also, if he could use it to get some prison privilege or special treatment, he would tell it in a second- as long as he felt he was getting enough for it.

Greta covering this case now!

First an interview with Arizona Governor, Jan Brewer before covering this case.
I missed the first seconds of her show and just saw the AZ story. Let me know when she gets back to Joran, please! :)

That's exactly what sociopaths think...Look, most of us were sure he killed Natalee and he even said it in different ways at different times and still got away with it...He thinks he's invincible and I don't think he will kill himself but I guess we'll find out soon. Would save everyone alot of time and money but I agree that Natalee's parents need closure and that life in a Peruvian prison would be the best possible punishment...

I wonder if he is dead would the Kalpoe brothers talk? Imagine what his Mother will feel if he is dead, she would have to think he might be alive had they not helped him 5 years ago.

SNIPPED:
I'm pretty sure I read on one of the first few pages of this thread that Peru did reinstate the death penalty. I haven't looked it up myself yet. What is the name of the human rights group that Bianca Jagger is so active with? That would be an ideal source for this information, as would the U.S. Dept of State. IMO

http://www.amnesty.org/en/death-penalty/countries-abolitionist-for-ordinary-crimes-only

PERU is listed here: Death penalty: Countries abolitionist for ordinary crimes only

Death penalty: Countries abolitionist for ordinary crimes only
Countries whose laws provide for the death penalty only for exceptional crimes such as crimes under military law or crimes committed in exceptional circumstances, such as wartime crimes.

I would say no death penalty for VDS in Peru.

That is interesting. I was just wondering does anyone know if he makes it to Holland or Aruba - will they extradite him? Do they do shared extraditions with Peru?

I always felt that way to with them. Maybe someday they will tell what they know. Wouldn't that be so wonderful if Beth got the call she has been waiting for all these years. I guess wishful thinking.

Not sure if you all saw this news video, but whoever posted http://hoteltac.net/ as the hotel seems to be right.

It shows the front of the restaurant of the hotel and the outdoor cameras. It also shows authorities carrying the young lady's body out to a vehicle. Maybe someone who understands Spanish could translate?

I hope Greta has Mark Fuhrman :blowkiss: on tonight about the case. In fact, I wonder if Mark isn't hightailing it down to South America as we type. I'll bet that Mark could track Joran down.

I hope so too. Greta said at the top of the program she'll be covering this breaking story tonight, but fist is her intereview with Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer.

He may have gagged her and tied her up.

IMO
Or as Dr. Perper suggested on NG's show, maybe GHB was used, but not enough. Maybe she woke up and realized what was going on, tried to fight him off and so in a fit of rage she was killed. MOO

This AP report says he is and has been in Chile since Monday. Is this old news?

http://www.nola.com/newsflash/index.ssf?/base/national-44/1275495373177110.xml&storylist=louisiana

LIMA, Peru - A young Dutchman previously arrested in the 2005 disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway is the prime suspect in the weekend murder of a Peruvian woman, police said Wednesday. Joran van der Sloot is being sought for Sunday's killing of 21-year-old Stephany Flores in a Lima hotel, police chief Gen. Cesar Guardia told a news conference. He said the suspect crossed into Chile the next day by bus. The Dutch government said Interpol has issued an international arrest warrant for van der Sloot.

I believe that the Kalpoes are afraid. JMO

Aside from their initial alibi for Joran, the Kalpoes have been consistent in their accounts, which seem to be confirmed in significant parts by cell phone records. The audio tape of their police car shouting match with Joran strengthens my conviction that they were home whenever whatever happened happened. That they have pursued a suit against Dr. McGraw and company seems to confirm their innocence: Being exposed to being deposed by high-paid corporate lawyers doesn't seem like a smart strategy who were already literally home free.

A little money for him is a lot of money for someone in Surinam. Also, he speaks the language, which makes it a lot easier than say Argentina or Chile. And finally, Surinam still has a lot of ties to Holland, even if it's not a colony anymore.
