Epafras and Joran

***respectfully snipped for space***

http://www.rnw.nl/english/article/dutch-media-attacks-peru-could-harm-prisoners

Ms Imamkhan says she has confidence in Joran van der Sloot’s Peruvian lawyer, Máximo Altez. Mr Altez has denied reports that he had pulled out of the case in response to threats against his family.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I wonder if Joran's complaining could have the same effect. There are many Dutch prisoners in the Peru system but mainly for drug trafficking. One of those is a young lady named Wendy who, when she was pregnant and out of a job, did some drug smuggling to save money for her and her baby. She's in Peru prison for 15 years. Her mother is raising her baby. It's a sad situation when she's got 15 years, and lawyers talk that Joran could get 3 to 5 years only for murder. He has also had a 5 year history of very adverse behaviour which started months before Natalee arrived on the Island. They still want to lay the blame on others with their interviews.
bbm
Thank you for the article. This is going to get even more interesting.
From this and your last post it makes sense to me that the lawyer initially pulled out for money.
I don't think his confession came until Wednesday evening, June 9.
The next morning he was transferred from the police crime investigator headquarters (DININCRI) to the public prosecuter's headquarters. "Sheathed in a bulletproof vest, the young Dutchman was driven less than a mile across central Lima during rush hour in a police caravan escorted by motorcycle officers."
I found this link from the Associated Press:
"Excerpts from the signed June 6 confession of Joran van der Sloot, who was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and robbery..."
I stumbled upon this link in the wee hours of t'day. In this link you will find reference to some money being allocated to JVDS legal fees etc (re Mother's interview)
I have a question: Does anyone know anything about Joran's two siblings? Val & Sebastian?
He has 2 brothers.
Valentjin Van der Sloot is 2 years younger than Joran. He is attending Emerson college in Boston as an Undergraduate in Media Production: film. he is scheduled to graduate in 2012.
Less is known of Joran's youngest brother, Sebastian Van der Sloot.
Anita stated that young son is at home.
When it comes to TV interviews these days, the most indispensable tool isn't a video camera -- it's a checkbook.
ABC and NBC are paying six figures this week for high-profile interviews, according to knowledgeable sources -- despite policies that usually forbid it.
An interview with the mother of accused killer Joran van der Sloot that will air today on "Good Morning America" and "Nightline" cost ABC at least $100,000.
ABC won a spirited network bidding war for the interview last week, sources say.
The competition for newsmaker interviews is the driving force behind the wink-and-a-nudge practice of paying headline names to go in front of the cameras.
One commentator called the no-pay policy TV's equivalent of the 55-mph speed limit -- a rule no one really pays much attention to.
The Dutch TV company that interviewed Anita van der Sloot twice -- in Dutch and then in English -- late last week assured the networks that the money was not going either to the mother or the 22-year-old accused killer.
But it appears that a portion of the $100,000 fee will go to pay Joran's lawyers in Peru, where he is charged with murdering a young woman, Stephany Flores. He is also the main suspect in the disappearance five years ago of Natalee Holloway in Aruba.
"We didn't conduct the interview," said an ABC News spokesman. "We paid a licensing fee to the production company for the US rights. That's it."
ABC caught a lot of flak earlier this year when it agreed to pay the family of murdered tot Caylee Anthony $200,000 for the use of photos and video.
john van den Heuvel, who interviewed both Anita and Joran, told Jean C. on last night's NG show that he didn't pay for either interview.
That's what I read too but .... the ''licensing'' fees are payable by ABC and NBC for the rights to air that interview and there's some indication that some of the licensing fees are being redirected to the JVDS/ANVS coffers
Hmmm. Okay, I will have to rethink the timeline that I have been keeping.
I wish there was a byline on that AP story. Some of their reporters are really good.
The price of that chat on the first anniversary of her son's death? About $340,000, according to several sources.
The statement I highlighted in red is from a portion of the article on Katherine Jackson...it's the amount she's getting paid for an interview NOT AVDS.
The Peruvian lawyer representing Joran van der Sloot says his client’s rights have repeatedly been violated and may take the case to the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. The lawyer, Máximo Altez Navarro, made the allegations in an exclusive interview with Radio Netherlands Worldwide.
What is the Inter-American Court of Human Rights????????? Sure hope they have NO clout!!!!! It makes me sick just thinking about it.
Yes. It was my impression that he was sent to start the ball rolling about the FBI sting. He started into conspiracy but ended telling in an interview that he believes Joran is guilty of murder. That shoots down the FBI sting and somebody framing Joran with the murder. Well any honest sole would not be able to carry on with the story that gunmen were chasing Joran with posters of Natalee.
Now here's a link which states Mon., June 7 as the confession date:
http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Media/jor...ssion-girl-intruded-private/story?id=10853209
No wonder it's so hard for us to keep sane while following this case!!!
and now we're back to Sun., June 6...quoted in a Dutch newspaper in the actual confession:
"In the city of Lima , at 11.25u at June 6, 2010 , in the presence of the representative of the Public Ministry in Lima , Roxana Rosado Soto , the Homicide Division .
Andreaus Peter Joran van der Sloot ( 22 ) from Arnhem , born August 6, 1987 . Marital status : single. Son of Paul and Anita van der Sloot van der Sloot. Education: Bachelor of the Han HAN Nijmegen . Living in Aruba , but enrolled in Arnhem .
Present the lawyer Luz Marina Romero Chinchay and the witness and translator of the Dutch embassy Maurice Stein . "
Interesting that it also names the attorney and intepreter who were present at the confession. How can Joran be complaining about the interpreter, when he was provided by his own embassy!!!
http://www.telegraaf.nl/binnenland/6944033/__Verklaring_Joran_van_der_Sloot__.html?cid=rss
(sorry can't get the translated link to post)
And I found an article about the first attorney (in the two attorney confusion):
"The public advocate , Carla Odría , who attended the Dutchman Joran van der Sloot said it did not participate in the proceeding held on the eve , where the alien is convicted of the crime of Stephany Ramirez Flores .
In a conversation with RPP said that advised overseas until Saturday 5 June, when it would hold a rally at the headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Department ( Dirincri ) but this was suspended at the request of the Dutchman, who claimed to be too tired .
Counsel stated that on Monday morning she appeared to Dirincri to know the date on which due diligence would be rescheduled , however , Major Percy Trujillo said that Van der Sloot and had a private attorney and do not want giving further details. "
Lawyer Joran get to international court
(AP) - The Peruvian lawyer Joran van der Sloot to get the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. Says the lawyer, Máximo Altez Navarro, in an interview with Radio Netherlands.
http://translate.google.com/transla...rnationale_rechter.html&sourceid=ie8-activity
Well ...... here's hoping that this "Commission" has a HUGE backlog and that their next available date for hearing this is issue is say........2035 or something....and that JVDS will have to remain where he is.
Given that the attorneys were female maybe JVDS was 'off his game' -- we just know how he likes to feel in control???
FLNY: Thanks for finding all that information so quickly!
I am now inclined to think that Sunday June 6th, is when the confession came. More importantly though, is the information you found in those articles about those two lawyers and the Dutch Embassy translator appearing right away in a published article.
I guess the following few days, we spent wondering if there was going to be a "re-creation" of the crime, at the crime scene. Then, on Thursday June 10th he was wisked off to the prosecutor's office.
