Ah ha.....and now they have a way to blame it on the USA.....I was wondering when that would come up, as it always seems to be our fault in any international incident. Just a bit ago I was thinking that at least he was never a US citizen.

Oh, for those not listening, I am referring to Greta saying that the FBI had info about the extortion before this incident took place in Peru.

Greta: very brief mention of extortion and blaming FBI for not arresting JVDS sooner. Now it's back to the Dem bashing. Remember when she used to dedicate the hour to Natalee and other crimes in the news? She was SO much better at that.

In the funeral tape the sunshine beams on Stephanie's casket...........like GOD's

The FBI had the evidence on the extortion as early as May 10th, and if they had acted on it then, there may not have been another murder.

What could they have done? Since the FBI was working with Aruba, and he was there at the time of the extortion attempt, they're the only country that could have done anything. Aruba authorities could have taken his passport and prevented him from leaving the island.

The FBI can't do anything to him unless he comes to the US.

Greta is blaming the FBI?

Even though the FBI had a case against Joran, doesn't mean the FBI could just go there and get him. Besides, they would have to find him after they got all the necessary paperwork to go to another country to arrest a non-American IF they could even get an extradition of Joran back to the USA.

GVS:
Reporter w/Santiago Times:
Tomorrow VDS will be brought to the border, and forced to cross the border where he will probably be arrested by Peruvian authorities.
No statements from VDS.
Calm and nothing on him when picked up.

I love that the wheels of justice are turning so quickly! MOO

It's winter in Peru & they had come from the casino. Why would she be in a bathing suit. It's a mistake in translation.

Hi, SoCalSleuth. I've never been in Peru, but our cleaning lady from Lima tells me that it's quite mild there, plus the water is warmer than it is here in New York, so perhaps it a bathing suit. Or, perhaps, it is a mistranslation: perhaps a leotard.

Phil Keating looked and sounded like he has been drinking a little too much there in Lima.

Hi La_cevaliere, Yes, taking the temperature into account they could pretty well pinpoint the time by the development of the insects found around her. 1 - 3 days, which is the period of time we are talking about, is the stage of initial decomposition when the insects start their part of the job, lay eggs, etc. xox

Well, if they can pinpoint the EXACT time of death to 8:30 a.m., that's excellent news for Joran, as he was a the market at that time. I thought there was usually a time range.

From what I understand, he's been in South America since mid-May ~ which would be about 4-5 days after the attempted extortion. And the FBI is being blamed???

I checked the Spanish/English dictionary earlier and the term the news story used is the word for "bathing suit" in some Spanish speaking countries, but in Peru, it translates to "briefs" or "panties". She was wearing a dress, jacket and panties.

Hi, Patty G. You're completely right. The only reason that we know about the case is that it was stopped in its tracks: The contact hadn't proceeded to the next step, which would have been locating or pretending the remains.

The entire encounter shows how desperate and reckless Joran had become.

You all have to admit that the timing of this "extortion" claim from Alabama is a bit tacky in light of what is really going on with the murder of Stephany, huh?

Betty P, thanks so much. Another of the many things I hadn't known before Websleuths.

ITA. If there is a vote going on about what country is at fault, I'll have to put all my money on Aruba. Joran should have been serving time for Natalie's death. Since her murder was covered up, Joran kills another young woman.

I asked that very question - the article was translated by google and the original poster who translated the article via google translated the words bathing suit and it was something like 'briefs' - maybe her under garments?

I keep thinking that Joran invited Stephanie back to his room with an offer that she could sleep or rest. All with the intention of taking her $5,000. Highly doubt sex had anything at all to do with the encounter. Maybe drugs were given to make her somewhat euphoric and comfortable. moo
