The point is that some posters were stupid enough to state that humans need meat which could not be further from the truth. I am a 6'4" LIFELONG VEGETARIAN and there are many of us worldwide that don't eat meat or seafood.

Humans should not be eating meat/fish and if that was the case there would be little or no animal leather since the by-product of meat simply wouldn't be there. Instead you would have pleather or synthetic leather which is acutally cheaper in some ways due to advanced technology and as technology improves it will be cheaper than any animal-derived product.
With all due respect, you preaching and belittling people who eat meat is exactly what we are complaining about. I feel no need to shove my agenda on you so why can't vegetarians do the same? It really isn't your business what I eat or anyone else as long as I am not eating Soylent Green. So don't tell me what I should and should not eat. Quite frankly, are coming off as a little insulting, rude and self righteous. I love my steaks and my leather shoes, you don't an thats your business.
The "stupid" ( your words, not mine, I find that poster to be just the opposite) poster should have phrased it more like "people benefit greatly from the nutrients in meat" ,which is true. Don't you take the vitamins to replace the nutrients you don't get from meat?

Just because you are a vegetarian doesn't make you any healthier than anyone else.
Bingo! My aunt is a vegitarian and is in the worst state health wise. So that point really isn't valid, people are unhealthy no matter what way of life the choose.

That's because the Olsens are SELLING their own line of clothing with fur in it. The NFL players and rap stars just wear it while the Olsons have millions of dollars promoting fur in their own clothing line.
What's the difference, either way an animal died? So PETA only cares if you kill an animal and profit off of it? Wearing fur is OK as long as no money is made from it? That makes no sense, but I woul expect nothing more from PETA than lunacy.

You and your family do not wear leather shoes and boots?

Eve

If we can help it, no. We are not vegetarians, although I was for over a decade. We are not big meat eaters, though. I can honestly say that my general health then was no different than now, so I'm not in either the eat/don't eat meat for health camp.

I do not support PETA due to the crazy factor. However, I do support people's choices to be vegetarian and/or avoid animal products. And I think it's in poor taste for anyone to walk around wearing animal products as a status symbol.

There are NO nutrients in meat that you need AT ALL that you can't find in non-meat sources. Quit falling for that myth! Do you think elephants need to take a supplement and they are the biggest animals on earth and totally vegetarian!! Look at the gorilla who is more than 98% genetic match to humans and they are totally vegetarian, a diet that is two-thirds fruit with the occasional termites every now and then.

You may have heard about Vitamin B12 well you can find that in dairy products so it doesn't require meat or fish. Even if you go totally vegan you can still get B12 from plant sources just not as much as dairy. B12 is stored in the liver for many years so vegans have nothing to worry about.

Overall vegetarians have lower rates of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and alzheimer's disease. So, YES vegetarians are healthier in general but there can be exceptions like junk food vegetarians just like you have plenty of junk food meat eaters.

Humans definitely do not need any meat ever to survive and be healthy. That said, I eat meat.

PETA could do some good but has become a caricature of itself, I am afraid.

Apparently overall vegetarians also have higher rates of pretentiousness and the uncanny ability to guilt-trip meat eaters.

She is not guilt tripping me, I don't subscribe to PETA propaganda. My lifestyle is just fine. She is in no way changing my mind, and with her tactics won't even come close, if anything i am more compelled to eat side of beef for dinner. I love your post though!

We will agree to disagree b/c you won't see it anyother way as you see no other livestyle than vegetarianism and obviously look down on people who eat meat. I hope you can be more open minded about peoples choices in the future.
You can find that info anywhere, veg parents are told that when they choose to raise their child veg. Alot of veg's just buy into propaganda though. You can see that in any parenting book or magazine.

No. You're wrong. LOL Anytime I hear or see somebody use them immediately during a discussion I think "condescending". I thank you as well, Paladin. Good lookout. I'm always open to learning and listening, but don't people realize talking down to others don't work?

Agree to disagree on what?? It's a proven FACT that humans do NOT need any meat/seafood to survive. There are millions of people in the world who don't eat meat/seafood and are perfectly healthy and have lower rates of several major diseases than meat eaters.

So you have to agree on that since it's a FACT. You can choose to eat whatever you want but there are NO nutrients in meet that humans can't get from non-meat sources so that is not a matter of your opinion but that's an indisputable fact.

No, I am sorry. It is not a proven fact.

Hey Deanws,

I think UM&AMWfan is saying it's a fact that we don't need meat to survive and be healthy. I agree with that as fact.

Whether or not it's healthier to be a vegatarian is, of course, open to debate! I personally think you can be healthy either way.

Wonder if the Olsens have survived PETA?

This is the part that I was debating. I am going to look for a link to some information that I have read that said vegies alone wasn't good for you. Of course anything fried isn't good either...and I LOVE fried Veggies!!!:bang:We had some this past weekend at our favorite place to eat!:D
