I think they both need a barrel of chicken to fill in the hollow bits.

im sorry but MK needs to eat a steak! isn't she the anorexic one?

If she is anorexic I think her problems are much deeper than just needing to eat a steak. The double standard drives me batty. People would go crazy if someone commented have another cheeseburger to someone who is obese. Anorexia is a disease that is a lot more complicated than someone just needing to eat more food. I have watched too many of my friends suffer from this to let it be trivialized like that.

pedinurse - I know you didn't mean anything by the comment. This is just a really sensitive issue for me.

PETA sympathizers ignore the fact that there is a biological reason that certain meats (chicken, pork, beef, fish, etc) smell appetizing to humans, and that's because it was intended that we eat their flesh for nourishment. It's the same reason we don't eat excrement or human flesh, because biologically this is telling us that it is unsuitable to eat or waste and to stay away from it.

TOTAL B.S. Humans are not lions and DON'T NEED meat for survival. Look at the primates who are most closely related to humans, chimpanzees. Their diet is only 3% meat and they do fine without it and they don't eat beef, pork, chicken, or fish. ALL primates are overwhelmingly vegetarian and the strongest of all, gorillas, are totally vegetarian.

I'm 6'4" and a lifelong vegetarian who was raised on no meat or seafood. You may not like PETA but don't state total garbage that humans need meat or seafood because we CLEARLY DON'T need any animal flesh to survive.

Could be, but that doesn't mean people don't have every right to eat animals legally raised for that purpose, or wear fur, for that matter, without being harrassed and having blood thrown on them and so forth. Speaking out against it is fine but their tactics are tacky and approaching threatening and violent. To each his own I guess. But I just don't repect those treat animals with dignity, but not people. What kind of double message is that?

I seriously question how many Peta people do not wear leather, also. The celebs that have gotten behind Peta sure as H wear leather - what's up with that?

Mr. E, how do you manage to not buy leather? I just couldn't hack that. What, plastic shoes, billfolds, purses and belts ALL the TIME?

You can get all kinds of things non-leather/faux leather. It's easy now that the internet is around!

Here are some sites:
http://www.alternativeoutfitters.com/VeganShoes.html
http://www.veganstore.com/
http://www.veganessentials.com/

When we bought furniture for our den, where the kids and their friends hang out, my husband wanted leather because it would be easier to clean than cloth. I didn't want a cow to die for my den, so we found a great set of furniture that is non-leather, but looks leather. It cleans up great and was less expensive than the leather stuff. When my parents visited they were shocked that I would buy leather until we told them it was fake.

The point is that some posters were stupid enough to state that humans need meat which could not be further from the truth. I am a 6'4" LIFELONG VEGETARIAN and there are many of us worldwide that don't eat meat or seafood.

Humans should not be eating meat/fish and if that was the case there would be little or no animal leather since the by-product of meat simply wouldn't be there. Instead you would have pleather or synthetic leather which is acutally cheaper in some ways due to advanced technology and as technology improves it will be cheaper than any animal-derived product.

My BEEF with PETA is they pick and choose who to target. I'd written them once asking why nobody threw red paint on all those NFL players who wear fur. How about the rappers who wear fur? Ain't none of these PETA people going after them. They did write me back saying they are aware of the numerous guys in the NFL who wear fur, but have not gotten around to protesting them. So, pick on them Olsens. Good!

That's because the Olsens are SELLING their own line of clothing with fur in it. The NFL players and rap stars just wear it while the Olsons have millions of dollars promoting fur in their own clothing line.

That's funny. They're afraid of the NFL players and rappers. The Olsens don't sing about capping people or go around bruising people.

True, but they have spent time and effort protesting others who simply wear fur and aren't putting out a clothing line. They do seem to spend most of the time aimed at designers, though.

Thank you for your passionate and informative views on this (I say that sincerely), but I noticed that you still didn't answer eve's question.:waitasec:

Why doesn't anyone ever support the boweevil? every cotton crop harvested has resulted in a multitude of boweevil deaths... and just like cows and furry animals, they are sentient life, too. Ban Cotton, Save a Boweevil!

(don't shoot me... my Pa came up with that joke after being chastised for buying my Ma a leather purse, a long time ago. In a sense it isn't a joke, though... animal activists of the extreme level pick and chose their plights in such a hypocritical way, at times.)

Supply and demand. Those football players have millions as well. Plenty to purchase one of these great looking faux furs. Nope, most of them are real and their mom's and wives and kids are all sporting them. I'd dare them to throw some red paint on Donovan McNabb's mother. Double dare them to throw it on a rapper and their posse of real fur wearers.

Yeah, but they don't spend millions on their own clothing line WITH FUR in it. You don't go after every single person wearing fur but rather those that distribute it since the distributors are the ones that put the furs on the NFL players and rappers.

Yeah, I did answer it by saying if it wasn't for all of you meat eaters leather wouldn't even exist since it's a by product of the meat industry. If this country were full of healthy vegetarians like me there would be no cows, pigs, chickens, fish, etc. killed so there would be no leather.

I wear running shoes which are made of synthetic material since leather doesn't breathe well.

They need a new approach then because it's not working. I've been seeing more fur than ever on people. Hows about they DO boycott the NFL players? Then the rappers and then every other person in the free world wearing fur, and start that way. If I'm in the NBA or NHL I don't want a cubic zirconian. I want a diamond. Fur coats all over the place in my city. Not a soul says a word to these people. I understand your point as I lead a macrobiotic lifestyle for many years. Just don't like seeing some elderly lady have paint thrown on her, and others go prancing nice and warm without a word said.

Totally wrong. Fur sales are down sharply compared to what they used to be 20 or 30 years ago. Several major fashion outlets don't even carry furs anymore while they used to in years past.

The reason fur sales are down sharply is because they target the manufacturers like the Olsen twins. It's a lot more efficient than going around targeting individuals in a country of 300 million people.

Just because you are a vegetarian doesn't make you any healthier than anyone else.
