Pit Bull and Other Dog Attacks.

I'm wondering if after the man had a heart attack, the dogs panicked and were trying to pull/drag him to the house or were trying to get him to get up. I say this because once I was on heavy medications and couldn't wake up to let Kong out. He had pawed at my face and head I guess trying to get me to move. I had some terrible scratches from him when I came to.

From the reports so far, it doesn't look like the dog bites were the cause of death. I think it will be difficult to determine if he had his heart attack before or after the dogs bit him.

HI DS :blowkiss:
We have merged a couple threads that were started yesterday on this topic.
It is sure of interest to many! This particular topic starts around 297 or so.

To my very dear JBean,:blowkiss:
I wondered where the thread went that I put up! I did not see the headline to the story on the Up to the Minute thread so I posted it as a thread. It was moved to this thread. I found it in this thread by putting the actors name in the Websleuths search (after my thread was moved). Thank-you very much for the explaination JBean, I appreciate it.

All of my Love and Respect to you,

LOS ANGELES - Two dogs belonging to actor Ving Rhames apparently mauled a man to death at the star's home Friday, authorities said.
The 40-year-old victim, who has not been identified, had lived on the property and worked as a caretaker at the home for about two years, police said. He was among those responsible for caring for the dogs, said Los Angeles police Officer Sandra Gonzalez. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Three bull mastiffs and an English bulldog were seized by animal services, police said.

Good find DS. So are these even pits at all?? Bull mastiffs are bred to catch and hold, not attack to kill; this story is getting more bizarre.

BTW, I have a Neo Mastiff. She’s a bundle of sniffs and slobbers and is basically harmless unless physically attacked. Neos will never win a big dog show; the breed standard has dewlaps almost dragging the floor!
The dog really needs a full-time attendant to deal with the drool. I love mine, but the wife doesn’t appreciate the Mollosus heritage or the beauty of the head, which produces prodigious amounts of slobber and can project it onto nine foot ceilings…..

Very dear Crypto6,:blowkiss:
Very nice to see you.
A friend of mine had 2 Neo Mastiffs in his business that were always very happy to great each client with slobber. Every day that I worked out, I saw these animals. They were very gentle and loved by all.
Thank-you so much for your post. I appreciate it.

Hehe...do I KNOW about slobber. I keep slobber rags on every door knob of every room and on the sofa and chair arms. Good grief, I've found it ceiling fans! When I get dressed, I wear a bath towel around my waist to the car....all the bye-bye slobbering.

I bet your Neo is a sweetie!!!!

Have you ever had to issue your party guests large towels to wrap around their waists?? Then you know who your true friends are!!

I missed it if you already commented: Do you have a Neo, and if so how does he/she do in the Texas heat??

I started to discuss this on the other thread about the 2 year old that was sexually attacked by a Pitbull.

It's important to discuss this topic (IMO) because I know we have several members who will swear that Pitbulls are not at fault for the attacks on people. Plus, Pitbulls seem to be in the news a lot lately.

After typing in "Pitbull" in the Google News Search I couldn't believe how many stories came up.
http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=us&q=Pitbull&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&start=0

Now, the question is, is this the fault of the media? Is the media over-reporting on Pitbulls and under reporting on other breeds?

Look, we know that Poodles and other high strung dogs actually bite more but according to stats (which I am trying to locate) Pitbulls and Rottweilers are by far the breeds that harm and kill the most.

I've been bitten by 2 small breed dogs. They bit me as hard as they could. For no reason I might add. These dogs didn't even break my skin.

If a Pitbull bit me unprovoked as hard as it could the outcome would be much different.

One more question. Does anyone know of a story where a Pitbull attacked after being provoked? It seems the story is always the same...unprovoked attack on a person by a Pitbull causing harm or death.

Am I wrong? Is this "hysterical" type thinking?

Let's keep the thread nice kids, as we discuss this hot topic.

Tricia

Pitbulls are inherently aggressive toward animals. Even a well raised pit is a danger to other, strange (not of his own family) animals. A properly socialized pit would be one who is neutered, who is not allowed to run free, one who is not raised with other pits, who is taught early on to SUBMIT to all humans, even tiny ones, one who is introduced to a wide variety of humans on a consistent basis and is allowed to be curious but not aggressive, one who is loved with your whole heart but with an iron hand. Anyone who owns a pit should see their vet; the vet will administer a behavioral type of test to determine the dog's propensity to aggression.

There have been many instances of false or maybe negligent or ignorant reporting when mixed breeds or other breeds are identified as pits. Someone posted a link to "pick the pit" a couple of months ago, and very few people can accurately identify a pitbull. It really was amazing to see the percentage of people who misidentified other breeds as being pitbulls.

Most pitbulls live long and happy lives with their families and they NEVER "turn." Most pits, probably like 99% of them, are loyal pets who would never even dream of hurting their owners or any other person. The problem is that when the rouge pit attacks, his powerful build will ensure that the person attacked will be horribly maimed at least and killed at most.

My own pit is a male. He is gorgeous, an absolutely beautiful example of the breed. Big square head, powerful deep chest, bulldog back legs. He is neutered. He sees the vet every six months, and he will roll over and show the vet his belly, We have spent countless hours teaching him to submit to any person, anywhere. BUT we still muzzle him around visitors, just because we know he is one powerful dog. He is an indoor dog, never allowed to disassociate himself from the family unit by being chained outdoors or left to roam alone or with other dogs. Because big dogs need plenty of exercise, our dog is walked for about 2 3/4 miles a day---on a leash, of course. My pit submitted to my Yorkie----he believed my 2 1/2 pound Misty was Alpha dog! He even behaved himself impecably with my cat!

There are games people play with their "regular" breed dogs that can increase aggression in pits----tug of war, etc. Pits are very, very smart, and they have to have a continuous message that they are the pet and the people are his boss. I believe that some people who own pits will inadvertantly teach their dog that HE is boss by letting the dog win at games such as tug of war. Once your dog thinks he is the leader of the pack, watch out.

I believe with all my heart that a properly bred, properly raised pitbull would as soon tear their own eyes out than hurt a person.

I have a picture of slobber hanging from a chandelier like one of the ornaments. Only people like us would take a picture like that.

Dingo: I can't mention the word "slobber" around my wife; it just makes her wonder more about why I like giant, drooling dogs.

The droolier the better:p
I had one wet mouth boxer ..holy smokes. That can be quite a mess. Especially when MIL ends up with a lap full of slobber.:o
But what they lack in drool control, they more than make up in love.

Ah, drool the topic of choice, LOL. My mom's lab drools so much when he is watching people it, it is so gross but he is a sweety! We picked out our new pit puppy today, she is a blue and white gorgeous little girl, we get her on Saturday when she is six weeks, we haven't picked a name yet any ideas? My other pit Champ is going to be so happy to have a friend again and it is going to help with all this sadness in the house?

imthemom...how about Bedelia Blue for a name. I have a friend that had a blue dane with that name.
