Oh Honey I dont care as long as the info is out there!!

You guys know I have 2 BIG male Huskies. Like you cat they are mistaken for wolves on a daily basis. Even if you dont like pits, you have to think of what will be next. As I said in an earlier post, In denver, what I was told from people there no link, They were rounding up anything that looked like a pit and putting them down when they passed their ban. There was an underground railroad kinda for them. They didnt care if you had papers or not, they were putting down all pits and non pits as well.

:( Soooo sad if that ban takes place. :( I have all my dogs on dogster.com and I had a few pits that were linked to my dogs that were from denver and I was always looking to see what happened to them. They did transport a lot of them out and had safe houses. I just don't like the idea of banning any living thing. I think it is a dangerous thing to do because it opens the door for many more ideas to come forward and it doesn't actually ever address the real root cause. IMO.

What's sad about it, is all of them pay for the actions of irresponsible owners, and irresponsible breeders. A breed may become extinct because of misdeeds done by humans. Although I don't care for the breed, I do see this type of ban being used to get rid of of other breeds determined to be "undesirable". I guess I'm really on the fence about pits. I don't like them, won't own one, but there are those that love the breed. Notice I said love the breed, those are not the irresponsible owners. Who am I to say they can't own it? The ones that have a pit, just to have the baddest dog on the block, or to look like a gangster, do not love the breed. They do nothing to promote the good qualities of the breed.

And Pit Bulls were actually bred to bait bulls. The term Pit Bull didn't come about until later when they were put in a pit with rats for drunken entertainment in pubs.

Pit bulls were never bred to fight bulls! Bull Terriers were. Yes they were one of the originating breeds, but they were not Pit Bulls.

Pit bulls weren't even called Pit Bulls until they were bred in America, hence the begining of the actual breed American Staffordshire Terrier, which disinigrated with improper breeding and breeding to other large and agressive dogs. In England they were simply called Pit Dogs.

I've never known a pit to attack unless it was provoked in some way. Even so much as yanking on their ears can set one off. Of course that can set off almost any dog. Dogs are like people in some ways. They have their good days and their bad days due to many different things.

I raised AST and never once had a problem with any of them. Not once did any of my dogs ever bite anyone. I still love them too.
People loved my dog Rufus and played with him. Many were suprised when they asked what breed of dog he was. I had people change their total attitude when they realized he wasn't agressive or viscious.

Bad people make bad dogs...

That's what I was saying, obviously it was poorly stated. The originate from bull baiters and were later called "Pit" bulls when they were put in pits to fight rats for the entertainment of some drunken fools.

You're totally preaching to the choir with me. I'm a proud Bully lover and 2 X owner. With my first Pit, the kids in the neighborhood would gather on the sidewalk and call her so they could hear her "talk". They have the most expressive personality of any dog I've ever seen. I had to put that sweet dog down on my birthday when she was 16 years old. My current Bully is white with black spots and has a black eye. He also talks although not as much as the female I had. He also smiles whenever anyone comes to visit which makes him sneeze.

I don't like pit bulls. I have three dogs of different breeds living with me. One is 1/2 border collie 1/2 blue heeler. Another is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Both of these dogs are workers. They herd and move our cattle. The third is a Shi Tzu. He's a wanna be anything the other two do. I would never own a pit bull. Even out here in the country we had an incident of a pit bull coming onto our property with a neighbor's kid. She was told over and over the dog wasn't welcome here. One day the dog went under our truck where our border collie/heeler was sleeping. He attacked him without provocation. Not heresay, I witnessed the attack. Fortunately a large piece of pipe stopped the attack. We rushed our dog to the vet and he stiched up a nasty tear on and around his penis. We called the sheriff and they did end up surrendering the dog. It was put down.

These dogs were originally bred to fight. These people also loved their pit. They claimed the dog was a lovely pet and never attacked anyone or any of their other dogs. Blamed us because we yelled at their daughter. That upset the dog they said. The daughter often rode her bike over 2 miles to try to get us to let her ride one of our horses.

Indy, your Huskies were specifically bred for a purpose also. People in northern climates depended on them to give transport over miles of frozen tundra. They weren't bred to fight. Our Corgi was bred to herd cattle. They are built short to the ground so the cows kick over them. Heelers and Border Collies are bred to herd. They absolutely must have a job. That makes them totally happy. As a matter of fact, our collie/heeler is at work now. He's moving cattle at the sale barn as he does every Thursday. You should see him when the BarnGod asks him if he's ready to go to work. Jumps right into the bed of the truck, ready to go.

I don't think that Pit Bulls belong in a crowded city neighborhood. Left in the backyard when neighborhood kids are playing in their own yards just invites disaster. It seems to be an ongoing tradgedy we constantly hear about on the news. We hear over and over what a wonderful dog it was and they never had any trouble before. It doesn't matter, it attacked.

No problem! Could you pick it out? I did but not before I paused over quite a few others and I have one.

That's great, Lurker. I just glanced at it - didn't really study it - but none of them looked like pit bulls to me. Of course, I am no expert - may check it out again when I have moret ime.

Wow...interesting site. I had to go through 8 to find the right one. Many of them looked just like pitbulls I've seen...goes back to the breeding issue I suppose.

It seems that every Bully hater has a story and every lover of the breed has one to match.

Question remains, how many of these dogs are actually pit bulls? Here's a cool test. Only ONE of these dogs is a Pit Bull. See if you can pick it out.

I believe the dig was intended for me. I'm not a bully hater. I just don't care for the breed and frankly don't trust them. I did not intimidate or threaten the dog or the girl. When someone asks you not to come onto your property or bring their dog onto your property, it should be respected. I have owned many dogs over the years and never considered a bull dog of any kind. Best dogs we ever owned with kids were large collie females. They even challenged my authority over my boys in a gentle way. Herded neighborhood kids on the playground, wouldn't let them off the curb into the street, and were generally great child minders.

I had a girlfriend with two pit bulls. Mother and daughter, Annie and Peaches. They loved me, would sit in my lap when I was over. But, absolutely hated my ex. She had to put them away when he came with me.

Oh, I took your test. I'll admit it took me a few tries to get the pit bull right. Many breeds I knew right off. I did google a couple of breeds and found a site that had a form to surrender the Cane Corso, with all sorts of questions about biting people, etc. Also, IIRC, the Presa Canario was the breed that killed that woman in a San Francisco apartment hallway. Both are Molosser types of dogs:

Interesting. It seems that Molosser types split in England and Bull Dogs were started there.

I got it on the first try! Do I get a prize Lurker? lol

Looks just like my Rosie (although taller) without the cropped ears (I got her that way, I would never crop a dogs ears or dock it's tail). My Rosie was a champion show dog.

You know what the breed is SUPPOSED to look like having a well bred champion. 10 on that page look like dogs I've seen and labeled as a pit bull. 7, 13, 14, & 22 is what type dog I've seen. I've never seen one like the one that was identified as the American Pit Bull.
So now my question is are those really pit bulls doing all the attacking??? Is the wrong breed being blamed, or is the mixes of the pit bull that are wreaking havoc? I didn't know so many other breeds resemble "pit bulls" so closely.

I know some people love pit bulls but I am not a fan of them.... especially since 2 that were lose came into my garage and killed my 22 year old cat, Shadow....

RIP Shadow- we are sorry it ended like that for you- is why we think this breed should be bred out-
