Yes...but so many of these pits were socialized family pets that the family had since a puppy. They have attacked their owners, or owner's children. It was claimed to be a gentle dog then snaps. The Danes I was referring to at the rescue were severly abused dogs all their life before coming into rescue. The majority get over their past life...from my experience 97% of the ones I've had knowledge of. They get right back into the Dane personality of being friendly and gentle, it's the main breed character. A VERY few just can not trust enough to get over the aggressive behavior because they have been so severly emotionally damaged.Change Dane to Pit and it's the same story. I think that holds true for any dog. Socialization is the key to a happy, well rounded animal.
ETA: One was just place that would cry, pee herself and tremble just hearing a male voice she was so afraid. She was beaten and neglected by her former male owner. But she never showed any aggression toward males. She was adopted to a female household and has been doing great.
