A Colorado dog owner accuses another man of killing his pit bull after their dogs scuffled at a park, according to the MyFoxColorado.com.
Animal control officers are investigating the death of 3-year-old Mac, a pooch that Ben Johnson said was a model canine for a breed often associated with its brutality.

This pit was attacked by a human and killed:(

That is horrible; I hope the guy gets time, but I doubt it. The pit owner should sue (I normally don't promote lawsuits, but this case just begs for one).

I am afraid of ALL dogs. I would never own one and don't like to be anywhere near them, nor would I allow one around my child.
My SIL has a little maltese who is harmless, I still don't like him around my son.
I cross the street if a dog is near. My husband thinks I'm nuts and has been bugging me to get a dog.
I have been attacked by a dog 2x in my life. I have a deformed elf looking ear from a dog attack when I was I was 4. Dogs are too territorial and unpredictable.

How horrific, I remember when my youngest dd was across the road at a friends place, she was attacked by a dog (cant remember what type), but she fell to floor and curled into a little ball, I started running towards her, but the neighbour got there first and scared the dog away, luckily she didnt suffer any injuries just was in shock and cried for a little while, but after lots of cuddles I told her how brave she was and how quick thinking she was to curl into a little ball.

Pitbulls are inherently aggressive toward animals. Even a well raised pit is a danger to other, strange (not of his own family) animals. A properly socialized pit would be one who is neutered, who is not allowed to run free, one who is not raised with other pits, who is taught early on to SUBMIT to all humans, even tiny ones, one who is introduced to a wide variety of humans on a consistent basis and is allowed to be curious but not aggressive, one who is loved with your whole heart but with an iron hand. Anyone who owns a pit should see their vet; the vet will administer a behavioral type of test to determine the dog's propensity to aggression.

There have been many instances of false or maybe negligent or ignorant reporting when mixed breeds or other breeds are identified as pits. Someone posted a link to "pick the pit" a couple of months ago, and very few people can accurately identify a pitbull. It really was amazing to see the percentage of people who misidentified other breeds as being pitbulls.

Most pitbulls live long and happy lives with their families and they NEVER "turn." Most pits, probably like 99% of them, are loyal pets who would never even dream of hurting their owners or any other person. The problem is that when the rouge pit attacks, his powerful build will ensure that the person attacked will be horribly maimed at least and killed at most.

My own pit is a male. He is gorgeous, an absolutely beautiful example of the breed. Big square head, powerful deep chest, bulldog back legs. He is neutered. He sees the vet every six months, and he will roll over and show the vet his belly, We have spent countless hours teaching him to submit to any person, anywhere. BUT we still muzzle him around visitors, just because we know he is one powerful dog. He is an indoor dog, never allowed to disassociate himself from the family unit by being chained outdoors or left to roam alone or with other dogs. Because big dogs need plenty of exercise, our dog is walked for about 2 3/4 miles a day---on a leash, of course. My pit submitted to my Yorkie----he believed my 2 1/2 pound Misty was Alpha dog! He even behaved himself impecably with my cat!

There are games people play with their "regular" breed dogs that can increase aggression in pits----tug of war, etc. Pits are very, very smart, and they have to have a continuous message that they are the pet and the people are his boss. I believe that some people who own pits will inadvertantly teach their dog that HE is boss by letting the dog win at games such as tug of war. Once your dog thinks he is the leader of the pack, watch out.

I believe with all my heart that a properly bred, properly raised pitbull would as soon tear their own eyes out than hurt a person.

Excellent post!!!! My Pit is a male as well. Absolutely gorgeous. He's also neutered and will lay on the floor with all four legs spread out so he can scratch his back. His best friend is my male Rottie. They adore each other. Your post was dead on!

I understand where you're coming from.
I am afraid of big dogs, so I have 3 chihuahuas. The male one does try to snap at my 9 year old neice. I can see why you don't let your son near the maltese. Even little dogs have sharp bites!

Death of Canadian at actor's home a mystery

Coroner rules out dog bites and heart attack in investigation of what happened to scriptwriter Jacob Adams

The last time anyone saw Jacob Adams alive, he was playing with his friend Ving Rhames's four large dogs.
The next morning, the Canadian scriptwriter was found dead on the actor's front lawn in affluent West Los Angeles, dog bites and blood all over his chest, legs and arms.
But what happened in those intervening hours has everyone from police to friends scratching their heads. An autopsy yesterday found the 40-year-old did not die as a result of the bites, and that he was healthy in every other way.

So the dogs could've been trying to drag him for help? And they've all been put down already haven't they?

I'm thinking they might have been trying to drag him for help too.
I can seriously see this having been the case.
