@BrianEntin

Maddie's dad Ben says she encouraged him to do his best and live on. Says he went through a lot of issues with addiction. "When I didn't want to live anymore, she is what kept me here."

The defendant appears to be profoundly bored.
He won't be bored when he's imprisoned, as he'll be looking over his shoulder constantly for possible attackers. Of course, they could stick him into solitary for his own protection. Then he'll really be bored.

Sone poster used the word "blank". IMO that is exactly and only what he is. There is no range for zero. It just is. He is a zero of normal reactions. I understand that there was some form of angry as he murdered, but he is just a blank human that has failed at life. He doesn't fit in. He doesn't relate. Oh, he knows no one likes him, but he can't change that. Again, he is a nil. He is just a nothing of a human that has no self awareness. Creepy loser. Yes, I'm watching.

It’s very rare but it has happened before where a Judge cried at sentencing and on appeal it was argued there was some abuse of discretion / their display of emotion affected their sentencing decision.

Judge Hippler is expressing his heartfelt sorrow to these victims, but if there ever was a case where a defendant would try to argue on appeal that their judge showed emotion and therefore ruled unfairly (in some way) in deciding their sentence, I could see BK being that person.

FTR - I am NOT saying Judge Hippler wiping away tears and/or showing emotion is wrong in any way, just that such a display of emotion has gotten some defendants somewhere on appeals, including one having their sentence vacated due to the judge’s display of emotions. :/

Madi's dad, Maddie was the only child I ever had. She was the best thing I ever did.

(he is very soft spoken and emotional)

He regrets not spending all the time he could with her because he thought they had time. Gives props to Scotty and Karen for the beautiful girl they raised.

She was my favorite person to go to a concert with. His favorite memory is Mac Miller and they really wanted to go, and he was able to win tickets for himself, her and her friends to attend.

Last thing she wrote to him was a father's day card. (he reads the card aloud) She was hoping they could find time soon to get together. her card was signed - Love Maddie May

She was his reason for persevering his reason to not give up as he went through addiction and his other struggles. Despite his flaws she showed him love and encouragement. He grieves for Jake, he was excited to see what their future would look like. He cannot replace her and he misses her so much. He has a lot written that he won't share, goes off script. Describes his feelings in this moment. He rambles a bit, he cannot continue.

SG...I'm nervous about this one....

Here comes Steve. I had no doubt he’d change his mind.

I expect him to go right after Kohberger.

So great that Maddie and her father, Ben, found something that kept them close with each other. Going to concerts together is something that my daughter and my husband share together too and I know how much joy it brings to both of them to have that.

Wishing Ben peace and the resilience to survive this.
