We were confirmed in what we had heard experts say- they had lung lacerations, which would have kept them from screaming. I still think that XK didn’t scream in her room while fighting him off because she hoped EC would keep sleeping and not be killed. I think she was trying to protect him.
I don't have any medical expertise at all, but reading through information this morning, it seems as though the victims were stabbed with the knife in similar areas on the body (with some variations such as Xana's extensive defensive wounds, for example).

Sure seems like he entered with a plan on where on the body to stab in order to kill. He didn't bring the knife, it seems, just to be a threat, but made specific plans on how to use it to kill.

No surprise that he intended to kill, but I think he did his homework rather then rely on the vague idea that knives can be lethal.

Regarding the firework noise Dylan heard, and this is totally anecdotal. When I'm not sleeping restfully, usually if my DH is not home, I will sometimes jar awake thinking I heard a door slam or glass breaking or a gunshot. When I realize my dogs are snoring peacefully, I know it was just in my head. (My dogs bark at everything.)

I think it's very possible BK had on a headlamp or had a flashlight with a strobe feature, or something like that. moo
BF also started she saw a flash and heard fireworks. I don't think she would have seen light from the living area upstairs down in her corner unless he went downstairs or maybe peered over the railing.

I hope we learn more about the routes he took those 23+ times. Will we know if he paused at the house?

My thoughts have been that he started driving around looking for the right house(s) for window-peeping, easy access, desirable victims - and 1122 fit the bill. I think he spent time parked above the house with the view through the windows.

After he picked the house, maybe he did then figure out who lived there and followed on social media, but I really do think it was the house that drew him, at least initially.

And I do suspect he slithered inside during at least one nighttime test run, when roommates were sleeping. Or, at least lurked in the yard as Kaylee noticed. Some of DM's nervousness might have been her noticing/hearing/sensing someone was messing around with the house in the weeks before the murders. (I hope she and BF are some day able to sleep well.)

I'm curious if he also lurked around other houses.

RBBM re your first sentence, same with me!. When time permits I want to thoroughly go through the newly released materials to see if there is any detail there about the routes investigators think/infer he may have taken to and from 1122 King Rd. on the night, in addition to any reports related to the 23.prior visits to within 100 metres of the house ( especially time of night/early AM and more details on ping triangulation). I think we may have to wait for the FBI and/or ISP to make available docs on the latter though. Jmo

Yesterday I was briefly skimming some of what MPD have so far released, and noticed in one of the no.100 -200 series of papers, Det. Payne (or Mowery?) filed a supplement detailing specific towers BK's phone pinged off in the moment before he switched off at c2.47am, and the moment after he switched on again at c4.48am. I'll find this doc again a bit later and post a link.

From memory the author mentions a tower "close to" Paradise Ridge south of Moscow for the 4.48am ping. From the PCA I believe this must be one of the towers which services Blaine and surrounding areas. I quickly looked up Paradise Ridge before having to leave off; it runs semi-parallel to hwy 95 and is closer to the hwy than Blaine township itself. Not sure if Google Street view or Google Earth may have enough detail to actually identify where, near this ridge, the tower is.

In another doc in that batch, Payne also talks about how he and another officer drove the route investigators believe Kohberger took before he switched back on at 4.48am. Unfortunately that specific doc did not go into further details after making detailed notes on points where various cameras captured his Elantra on Walenta Ave just after 4.20am. There is a video though, according to the memo, which the officers took when driving the entire inferred route (they used body cams positioned to face outside the front passenger and driver's side windows), and I'm hoping that if not the video, then notes accompanying it will be released at some point.

Apologies for not linking the exact doc. I will do so as soon as I can get back to reading.

Witnesses, plural? Someone other than DM?
Yeah I had seen this and pondered what it could be. A firework noise and spark description- hmm
A striker? Did BK bring a magnesium rod and hit it with his knife? It would make a noise, cause a spark, and also fling a spark over a distance. Two hands required. Cigarette lighter may sound a look the same as a spark and firework- but it can’t shoot a spark to the floor.

A flashlight with a toggled on and off- uses one handed. You can shine the beam of light on the floor- and DM saw where it hit the floor from under the door?

IMO
LEDs can go on with a spark like flash.

Renowned expert Ann Burgess mentions that her team helped the Goncalves with suggestions for their VI statements.
It's around 1 hr into this show

ETA
Am still watching the show and they're raising the issue of the Defense table and the facial reactions of the Defense team & I know many WS-ers made similar comments here yesterday. At 1 hr 18mins.
Also Joel & Ann ask why the Defense allowed him to bring in the Black Heart image.Burgess believes he brought that to try to build mystique!

This is the most mystifying detail I have ever heard. JMOO

Is it possible to deliver drugs to induce sleep with a flash bang gernade-like device? Sorta out there but...

Emily, the good friend who is Hunter's gf featured in the Prime series, thinks BK met or saw Maddie at the restaurant she worked at, and how he honed in on her and started stalking her.

What terrifies me is the fact that he will likely go on spreading dangerous Incel/Elliot Rodgers/anti-women theories from inside prison walls.

Especially now after victim impact statements, the guy is more filled up with hate than ever.
You could see it in his eyes at sentencing. Nothing but repressed hate and anger underneath that seemingly empty stare.

Let’s hope everything this creature does, says or writes will be monitored to the max.

JMO
And he doesn't even have to do anything actively to do this, tbh. Just like BK was drawn to Elliot Rodgers' story and actions, others will be inspired by BK regardless of what he does or doesn't do in prison.

I realize that. But I still think the house and window peeping (and easy-access door) was the INITIAL draw for him. If he then figured out who lived there and followed them around town or online, I don't know. But I think the house was the starting point.

Of course, I don't know for sure.

In the Prime special, people who live in Moscow commented no one locks their doors. Idaho apparently is super safe. He could have entered anyone's house easily it appears.

Here's a view of 1122 Kings Rd. you don't see too often. The house is on the right, sitting back a bit. There are other homes and apartments all around the area. including on the left side of the street. And the street is rather narrow. It doesn't seem like a good house to target for such a horrific crime - unless the perp is obsessed with the residents.

Interview with Kohberger in PA-#157
1. WatchGuard Event: NA

Case number added to WG: NA
2. Evidence
NA-video/audio and transcript of interview added to case file 3. Narrative
On December 29, 2022, ISP Detective Sergeant Gilbertson, FBI Special Agent Shirley and I arrived in Albrightsville, PA in preparation for the service of the arrest and search warrants for Kohberger and his family's residence at
, Albrightsville, PA. After several coordination meetings, Det. Gilbertson, SA Shirley and I drove to the Pennsylvania State Police Barracks at Stroudsburg, PA to await the arrival of Kohberger after his arrest and to interview him upon his arrival.
At approximately 0200 hours on December 30, 2022, Kohberger was brought to the PSP Stroudsburg Barracks and placed in an interview room. The interview was recorded on the built-in video system at the barracks as well as Det. Gilbertson's pocket recorder. Det. Gilbertson and I were the interviewers present. This is a summary of our interview with Kohberger and is not a verbatim transcript of the interview. A full interview transcription will be attached to this case file.
Det. Gilbertson and I began by introducing ourselves and stating which agencies we represented. When I stated who I was, Kohberger stated "you do look familiar". Det. Gilbertson and I prepared our note taking materials and Det. Gilberston read Kohberger his Miranda Rights Advisement. Det. Gilberston asked Kohberger if he understood his rights to which he replied he did. After collecting Kohberger's personal information and inquiring about any medications, Det. Gilbertson and I began to speak to Kohberger. Det. Gilbertson asked Kohberger about the SWAT operation at the house to which Kohberger replied he was concerned about his parents and his dog.

Det. Gilbertson asked Kohberger if he was going to Washington State University to which he replied he was. We made small talk with Kohberger about sports for some time. Kohberger stated he didn't follow WSU football much but was a baseball fan. Det. Gilbertson asked Kohberger if he had only been at WSU for one semester. Kohberger confirmed this and said he came to WSU with his father on July 1st. Kohberger then went on to say he was a first-year PHD student in criminal justice and criminology. Det. Gilbertson asked Kohberger what the process was to apply for a PhD. Kohberger stated he applied to two places: UC Irvine and WSU. Kohberger said he was going to graduate with his Masters in Criminal Justice from De Sales and was inspired. Kohberger then asked if it was OK to engage in small talk like we were to which we replied it was. After briefly mentioning he was strengthened by the fact his mother and father were OK, Kohberger said he applied to the two aforementioned schools because they did not require the GRE exam. Kohberger then spoke about the GRE for a brief time and then said he was accepted by WSU.
Det. Gilbertson then asked Kohberger what lead him down the road of becoming a professor. Kohberger stated it was because he loved being in college and stated knowledge was far more important to him than money. Kohberger added WSU had a good program to study under, and then said "you guys know all about this more than likely". Kohberger then asked questions about University of Idaho and other Idaho Universities before stating he didn't know much about Idaho or Washington and had not left the "tri state area much". Kohberger then returned to speaking about his focus on learning and how he thought he could obtain his doctorate degree. Kohberger then said he recently returned home to see his family.
Det. Gilbertson then asked Kohberger about his time at De Sales University. Kohberger spoke for some time about his time at Northampton Community College and De Sales. Kohberger then spoke about how he became interested in criminal justice and stated he thought about being a police officer but did not want to make that commitment unless he was absolutely sure. Kohberger then continued to speak about his education and universities. Kohberger also spoke more about the process to get into a PhD program and how competitive it can be.
Det. Gilbertson then asked Kohberger about his move to Washington. Kohberger said he drove across country and wanted the challenge of driving cross country and experiencing it with his father. Kohberger then said he took a different route back home with his father for Christmas Break to avoid snow. Kohberger spoke about his travels and the risks of such travels in winter. Kohberger then began to speak about the beauty of the environment and its relationship to God and a higher power. We spoke about this for some time and Kohberger said he was raised Christian but was always a skeptic except when confronted with the beauty of the natural world. Det. Gilbertson asked Kohberger if he had ever been to the Pacific Northwest prior to coming to WSU, and Kohberger said he had not.
I asked Kohberger if he and his father made any stops along their way back to Pennsylvania. He told me they visited Colorado but the main goal was to just drive. Kohberger then told a story about seeing an unmarked police car near Kansas City speed up behind him, catch up to another vehicle, turn on its emergency lights, then drive away. Kohberger thought this was strange and was unsure why it occurred.
Det. Gilbertson then asked Kohberger about the job he mentioned. Kohberger stated he was a teaching assistant. Kohberger then talked about how busy he was and how the funding package that comes along with being a teaching assistance is

what makes the extra work worth it. Kohberger then discussed ongoing projects with WSU PD and Pullman PD. Kohberger spoke more about how being a TA is essentially assisting the professors and the department. Kohberger stated he did not get to assist with teaching with the exception of assisting with office hours. Det. Gilberston asked Kohberger if he would be a TA again next semester and Kohberger replied he would.
Kohberger then stated he understood why were engaging in small talk but would appreciate it if we explained to him what he was doing there. Det. Gilbertson asked Kohberger why he thought we were there. He said he wanted Det. Gilbertson to tell him. Det. Gilbertson said we were there because of what occurred in Moscow but did not provided any further detail. Det. Gilbertson asked Kohberger if he watched the news. Kohberger said "I watch the news". Det. Gilbertson then asked Kohberger why he thought I looked familiar. Kohberger said he wasn't sure and stated I had a familiar face and looked like someone he used to know. Det. Gilbertson then said we were there because of what happened in November jut off the University of Idaho Campus. Det. Gilberston asked Kohberger if he knew what that was to which Kohberger replied "of course". When prompted to elaborate, Kohberger said it was the incident we had been investigating for "how long has it been?" Kohberger said there were probably several incidents, and then said he was aware of a homicide because of a WSU alert he received. Det. Gilbertson asked when Kohberger received the alert. Kohberger said he wasn't sure but thought it was sometime the previous month. Det. Gilberston confirmed that was why were there and asked if Kohberger wanted to talk about that. Kohberger replied "well, I think I would need a lawyer". Kohberger then asked if we would explain to him what we were there for specifically and added he was tired. Det. Gilberston again stated we were investigating the homicides of the four students and that we had questions and things we hoped Kohberger would help us understand.
Kohberger sat back and said he had the utmost respect for law enforcement but stated it was a constitutional right to speak to an attorney. Det. Gilbertson affirmed this. Kohberger then reengaged and said the only thing he heard of from Moscow was an alert that came to his phone. Kohberger then said he wanted to talk to an attorney. Det. Gilbertson said we would stop now because Kohberger wanted to speak to an attorney. Kohberger then asked where his parents were and were his dog was. Kohberger reengaged again and asked what questions we would have for him. Det. Gilbertson then asked Kohberger again if he understood his rights and asked specifically what Kohberger wished. Kohberger asked what specifically we wanted to talk to him about and the reason. I told Kohberger he invoked his Fifth Amendment Rights and we were not going to ask him any further questions. Kohberger asked again for the reason he was there but added he would like to talk to an attorney. At this point, we concluded our interview with Kohberger and left the room.

I'm not going to argue about this, lol, but it was determined he could see through the windows by parking in the back, the parking spots about the house.

For goodness sake, people. If he targeted the house, that doesn't exclude him also targeting the residents. Both could be true.

Not true. More of an attitudinal thing and there is an assumption of small town values and safety. Not a reality in 2025. JMOO

Maybe the cell phone records will show more about exactly where he was during the 23 times he was in Moscow. Based on what we know of BK and what happened, he's a planner.

I didn't make it up, not my opinion, it's what people who live in Idaho and Moscow said. So, I guess it was true, and since the murders no longer true. Just giving the facts presented by residents with 1st hand experience.

I live here. Not sure everyone just decides to leave doors unlocked. I think it is more perception that habit and the comment reflects that. JMOO

I live here.
And? It doesn't change the info that was in the Prime series given by people who also live there. I'm from big cities and that experience would come with me to a rural area. I would never not lock my door regardless of the attitude or history of the place, but that's because I have big city experience. There probably are still places in the US that are this safe, I'd still lock my door.

Also, the point of my comment was to point to the accessibility aspect for BK. He didn't have to search and search for a house that had an unlocked door. It is very unlikely that was a driving factor in his choice, but rather the person he honed in on. Unlocked was the norm, not the exception.
