GUILTY PLEA DEAL ACCEPTED - 4 Univ of Idaho Students Murdered, Bryan Kohberger Arrested, Moscow, Nov 2022 #114

  • #341
48 Hours interview with Bill Thompson. Peter Van Sant pressed him hard on why they didn't make it a requirement for Kohberger to at least provide investigators with details of the crime.

Thompson said that his concern was that Kohberger would lie, and say things inconsistent with the evidence, which would potentially threaten the plea deal.

An interesting tidbit involves the strange events the victims experienced in the months leading up to the murders (damaged door, shadowy figure, etc).

Investigators looked at the timing of those events and compared them to Kohberger's phone activity (those two dozen late night trips to the area). They found nothing that would corroborate Kohberger being there during those days/times.

BBM
As for Thompson, it was released to media KB has been within 100 meters of that house 23+ times. I want to say to BT "that wasn't just pulled out of thin air."

Also of note--the FBI behavioral analysis unit did make a profile of the murderer for LE

PVS: Bill, I want to ask you a question. I know you've been asked this already a bunch of times, but as you well know, everyone, the families and friends of those students, the public at large, everyone is vexed by the question of why did he do this? Do you have a theory?

BT: I don't know why he did this. Early on in the investigation when we had folks from the FBI's behavioral analysis unit, their profilers, they were here helping with the investigation in the first few weeks. Um as they were looking at the case, even just the little we knew then. They were telling us in all likelihood we would never find out or understand why this occurred. And even if the
murderer were to tell us the reasons that in all likelihood it wouldn't make sense to ordinary people like ourselves.

and for the people wondering if BT is against the death penalty:

PVS: Is it true that you are personally opposed to the death penalty?

BT: You know, I don't know that I have strong feelings one way or the other....I really don't have a personal moral feeling one

None of us know how we will respond to an extreme situation. I've responded with calm efficiency, freezing, dissociation, and hysteria at different times in my life. The only consistency was the come down - shaking, anxiety, perseveration on what had happened, what I had done. Flashbacks. Nightmares.

Hunter responded with calm efficiency, but his trauma will be just as marked as everyone else in that immediate group. Possibly more so than many, because of his compartmentalisation of his immediate reactions to shield the others, and his choice to enter the crime scene, view the bodies closely and check them for vital signs. Nobody else but first responders came so close to the victims, and we know from things said to the press that seasoned LE and forensics folks found it an incredibly confronting scene to work because of the nature of the injuries and the violence. Hunter was essentially a kid, and the victims weren't strangers but his friends. That would mark anyone deeply.

MOO

If someone ever put up a fundraiser to help Hunter Johnson to pay for ongoing long term trauma therapy and support, I'd be grabbing my debit card before the link even finished loading.

One of the most gruesome images, and most highly debated on this forum, was the blood-like substance seen seeping from the King Road house in photos taken shortly after the murders, with many believing that it could not have actually been blood. It has now been confirmed that it was indeed blood, and was Ethan's. That haunting picture will stay with me for the rest of my life, and learning new information about the sheer brutality of the murders will make it even more haunting.

In Kernodle's room, her body was on the floor and her boyfriend Ethan Chapin's body was on her bed. Chapin's blood seeped out of the side of the house in the hours before his body was discovered, officials confirmed.

I cannot even think of the murderer as human. He is pure evil incarnate. JMO

I remember Daily Mail reported it as I sent a link here.
And a lot of ppl accused MSM of lying & sensationalism.

I was sure, unfortunately, that it was blood of the victim/s :(
It was obvious IMO.

And now
Prosecutor confirms it.

Yeah, it was brutal, to say the least. The animal was berserk & he took it out on them & then some. Had any other roommates done anything differently in regards to investigating the noises they heard or things they saw, they would have been victims as well. He was beyond out of control.

Memory unlocked. I used a roll of nickels in my first fight, back when I was a little "stormier" than I am now in my old age.

I think it was the butt of the K-bar that made the marks on KG. moo
Yeah, I had my rough & tumble years as well, mostly prior to adulthood. I have a couple of memories of which I’m not proud but wasn’t going to be a punching bag. Sometimes people just don’t realize they’re poking a bear & think it’s a game or popularity contest. Having kids probably got me out of that frame of mind but I still don’t leave much wiggle room if I feel threatened, especially if I try to take the higher road initially.

Yes I was here too.
I believed it because at the same time Ed Wallace explained how it could easily happen ( Before he was a NYPD CSI he trained as an architect and he described the style of house construction as well as Knife wounds wrt veins & arterial blood loss over X hrs etc. I did post it onto WS)

Even though it could not be linked here, I think we would learn of it, and I would as well, for both him and EA. BTW, the one for Dylan is at just shy of 79K as I type this.

Find it hard to believe that BAU said that - bit in bold.

Yes, that goes without saying, wrt to the extra reason in italics.

I know he has pleaded guilty and I believe that he IS guilty, but something has been semi-bothering me.

Why do you think he entered a plea so close to trial? Bill Thompson admitted at the press conference that he had no online or offline connections to any of them. No motive. No murder weapon. No forensic computer data.

Is there maybe something in discovery that came through that made him take the plea? Something damning?

His DNA on the sheath imo

His DNA in the bed with two of his victims.

He just rode the trial train to the station and jumped an inch shy.

A game to someone who cares about nothing but his own hide.

IMO

This murderer is sick in the head.

I doubt even he understands why murderous urges possessed him.

Nobody knows or will know.
Psychiatrists can only guess.

I think his parents and sisters ask themselves the same questions over and over again.
And they will till they die.
With no exact answer.

Sometimes
even we don't understand our motives,
(as they are often subconscious)
so how can we understand other people?

The speculation I've read - eg Gray Hughes, but also others - is it may have had a lot to do with his lawyers advice.

She did everything she could to try to make it a case she could defend, even up to the last minute - eg motions to get things included or excluded at the trial, but all those motions were denied.

So, if she didn't believe she could win the case against him, it was in his own best interests for her to advise him to get a deal and at least save his life. And, as a defendent should do, he followed his lawyer's advice.

IMO, he first spoke his family and confessed to them, and they agreed he should plead guilty.

Touch dna is still DNA but could easily try to be explained away because it was touch. I’ve read through almost all of the doc dump and they really just didn’t have a lot. Some but not a lot. JMO

This makes the most sense and I’m sure he hated this outcome. The other thing I’ve thought about is he didn’t want anything coming out at trial as to possible things that won’t be released from any of the agencies in upcoming document dumps.

RE: lights

Social media photos/videos seen in the various documentaries and on their SM accounts showed that both girls had strings of fairy lights in their rooms. Maddie's room was fairly small, and had lights framing the opening to her closet which appears to be only 3-4 feet away from her bed, along with a line of lights (might even all be one strand) that ran up the side of her window nearest where her boots were displayed. Many young adults that I know don't turn off their fairy lights to go to sleep, and Maddie went to bed with her false eyelashes on so I could see turning those lights off to be the last thing on her mind that night.

Xana also had fairy lights on the full length mirror that stood in the far corner near her window.
SBM

The point I was trying to make about the lights in the room was that BK obvious couldn't have walked into a pitch dark room and committed the murders of two people in each room by stabbing them each multiple times without some light to see the number of victims in each room and where he was stabbing.

Whether that light came from a TV, fairy lights or a ceiling/table lamp or whether or not the lights were already on or BK turned them on we may never know. But I think we can all surmise there had to be some source of light in the room in order for BK to carry out the murders as he did.

For all we know BK may have been using a headlamp type light or some other source of light that he brought with him. But there was no mention of that in the evidence found or the description Dylan had given and I think if BK did use some type of head lamp he brought with him Dylan would have remembered that given the detailed description of BK she had given LE, even down to his bushy eyebrows.
