George asking the motel owner where to get the best pizza and talking about the weather doesnt show us he was perfectly fine. It suggests he wanted the staff to think that he was so he could end his life without them barging in, or calling the cops. Classic mask-wearing for someone who is genuinely depressed or suicidal. If it was preplanned and a fake for whatever reason, why wouldnt he act all depressed when he checked in?
What we do know is that when LE arrived at the motel, he said he had just needed time alone to think things through.(per Chief Chittwood ) They believed differently.... even though he wasnt telling them he was suicidal.
And according to BC, he did actually consume prescription meds. Even if he hadnt, its clear to most people he needs help to begin healing.
He probably knew this deep down and so he complied. The reason why the suicide rate for males is higher than women is because its so hard for them to ask for help, or to even admit they need help. They're 'supposed' to be tough. Be a man. Suck it all in. But depression is the ultimate feeling of weakness and helplessness..The opposite of what we see as masculinity.
I believe that because GA just wanted to be left alone when LE showed up at the motel- that was a red flag to them that something was really wrong.
From my experiences with mental health teams, when someone is pleading for help- they are viewed as an attention seeker. Its when you are denying you need that help that they step in and make the decision for you.
