i am also dying to know... has there really been a sharp increase in the number of child predators/kidnappings/sex offenses/rapes/murders in the past couple generations (in ratio to the popluation), or is there just more because there's more people? i know the media covers it more now, but isn't it true that there's just a lot more to cover?
i suppose technology has everything to do with it also, making instant connections with strangers (over a larger distance) possible.
i just wonder if there's something else in our society that's causing an increase.... boredom, lack of purpose, detatchment/disconnection with community, increase in sexual images through advertising & entertainment, or....?? any other guesses, from a socio-psyhological, genetic, or environmental standpoint?
have such a large proportion of men always been attracted to children, or is it a newer thing? and in the old days, didn't mobs just kill anyone who raped or hurt a child? i suppose men in high positions engaged in such behavior in the past too, so did people go to great lengths to protect them and deny any wrongdoing by them, just like today?
did men have more self-control, or a stronger sense of right & wrong in the past (unless they were truly psychotic), or where things just as bad as they now?
i'm just trying to wrap my brain around the whole thing, and having a hard time.... i wonder if there's a book out there called "the history of pedophilism"... that would be an interesting read.
