IMHO, they wouldn't have left the assets they had behind. They had just sold a house for $900K. They hadn't yet liquidated their business, which I bet was worth quite a bit. I don't think the Navins would have left behind that sort of cash.
But, could that be part of the plan? Maybe they had millions more. Leaving money would look like they're missing.
The texts do look like Dad was attempting a set up.
The son's next day purchases is so suspicious though. I'd really like to know if they've got him on store surveillance purchasing those things.
This is one messed up story.
A far out theory. What if the son was told by a debtor to get rid of his parents or he was next? Or what if they disappeared as they felt their debts were putting the kids in danger? My be they were getting threats. Maybe, if whoever was after them felt the son was about to do time for murder, they'd leave him alone? IDK....
