GUILTY (PLED) CT - Jeffrey, 56, & Jeanette Navin, 55, Easton, 4 Aug 2015

IMHO, they wouldn't have left the assets they had behind. They had just sold a house for $900K. They hadn't yet liquidated their business, which I bet was worth quite a bit. I don't think the Navins would have left behind that sort of cash.

But, could that be part of the plan? Maybe they had millions more. Leaving money would look like they're missing.

The texts do look like Dad was attempting a set up.

The son's next day purchases is so suspicious though. I'd really like to know if they've got him on store surveillance purchasing those things.

This is one messed up story.

A far out theory. What if the son was told by a debtor to get rid of his parents or he was next? Or what if they disappeared as they felt their debts were putting the kids in danger? My be they were getting threats. Maybe, if whoever was after them felt the son was about to do time for murder, they'd leave him alone? IDK....

- and the affidavit states they found a receipt for Home Depot and shooting range.

The son also shopped at Home Depot the day after his parents went missing, according to the court documents -- purchasing bleach, stain remover and cleanup bags, authorities said. He also wrote a note that stated: “No alarms, no panic buttons, no phones. BE SMART," according to the criminal complaint. Abc.com

What about that note? No alarms....
Was he getting advice or directions?

A theory: maybe a note he showed his mother when he abducted her?

I heard that even though that 1 house sold for a good profit at the 900k selling price. They still had big debt in some other realty that actually out weighs the 900k sale.

But maybe the wife was able to keep the 900k if her name wasn't tied to the other failing properties.

But they did have some kind of debt. So maybe the son wanted to eliminate them while some money was still left.

The only remedy for a secured debt is seizure of the asset. If they had real estate debt on another property, all they had to do was walk away from those and let the bank take them and they could keep the money from the house they sold.

I don't think that disappearing his parents would have been a good way preserve capital, since whatever debts they owed would come out of the estate anyway.

I wonder what the status is of J&J Refuse. The website is still up - http://jjrefuse.com/

This link states it is an LLC. http://www.manta.com/c/mr062p5/j-j-refuse-services-llc

I wonder if someone else had power of attorney for either the business or personal financial level. What is going to happen with the foreclosure of the the Guilford House if nether J or J are found and there is no power of attorney? It takes a long time to declare someone officially deceased w/o significant other evidence, doesn't it?

I know I am beating the proverbial dead horse, but I can't ignore the convoluted history behind that albatross of a home for the Navins and the people residing within who fought tooth and nail to live there virtually for free, or at least utility free...

I am not surprised the business is still up and running -- isn't his brother a partner?

Yes, Business is definitely up and running I hear. There is A new pick up person.

I can't hold this one in any longer.

Have you or anyone you've ever known ,ever asked someone before your child or theirs went over before a play date: " do you have a gun in your house?

Thank you in advance.

Wow... Theory @A note to mom during the abduction! I didn't think of that whoa! I thought advice notes from a phone convo. Omg that is one pretty scary theory. Anything is possible. I think. thanks.

Yes. i know people who ask that. Okay, one person. Lol.
I wouldn't let my kids go to home that I didn't KNOW the parents and feel
100% comfortable and safe with.

Who asked who that??

I would think KN is hurting sitting in jail. Withdrawing from everything.

Wouldn't that make him talk? If he knows anything.

Remember to use initials when discussing people that aren't the suspect or the victims. Thanks.

I am extremely against guns and have never had them in my home. I was only asked that question once.

No one I know has ever been asked that. Even though maybe we should.

It was a super long time ago. Really long time ago. I was just wondering what you guys think as you live all over.

But this and a few other odd/ off moments just are haunting me. :(

It's an odd question given how 'into' guns her son apparently was, for sure! I usually assume that people who like guns have parents that liked guns and were comfortable with them for that reason. I wonder what made her worry about that. Maybe what concerned her was an interest in guns on the part of KN.

I've already floated a theory that it's a note intended for mom (like, maybe she was already afraid of him for some reason and he approached her in a public place...) but another theory is that it was intended to be used in a bank robbery. Isn't that just the kind of note that bank robbers slide over to tellers when there are other people in the bank so that no one around will know what's going on and raise an alarm or call 911?

Like this (although the date makes it unlikely and the arrest of a serial bank robber out of Middletown was announced in the last week): http://www.courant.com/community/deep-river/hc-deep-river-bank-robbery-0819-20150818-story.html

Since you mentioned that JN asked your this when bringing her child (KN?) over for a playdate, I am assuming the children were very young.

I agree with Skigirl. I think she knew her child had an interest in guns and was worried about him being in a home with guns.

Which...is very concerning. When a child is THAT young. IMO

I just looked at that part of the affidavit. On the same piece of paper as "No alarms, no panic buttons..." was also, "Oxycodone 30 mg," and "Oxycodone 15 mg." I wonder if he was thinking of or did rob a pharmacy?

I'm trying to figure out how old they were. I'll have to go through some old school and birthday photos to see. Maybe they were like 7 or 8 years old. We never socialized with them but By 7/8th grade We had a pretty falling out with the Ns. The parents (Perhaps I'll tell that one another time. ) but I did see her at the school at her job. She was really nice to the little kids at school.

Last night I was talking to a friend who floated several different theories. I'm going to list them. Some of you may find it interesting. I did. It's interesting to hear others views or thoughts. So Ty.
1. Sopranos type hit - framing Kn using GF to turn him out. Get rid of the parents. All texts Hitman
2 parents - split - KN gets rehab no conviction no body
3. The note was to and for GF - rest of stuff on note oxy - dealer order?
4. Kn did it - parents were cutting him off? Impulsive - for some hidden stash $
