Pontiac: The odor, sealing off & processing the car #2

IMO, he is a biased parent first and jumping to the conclusion that his daughter murdered his granddaughter would be a huge and unusual leap. I think he wrestled with it and thought of it; but it would be a very rare person that would seal off their own car (before they even knew for a fact that their granddaughter was truly missing) because they suspected their daughter murdered her. At that point who would even imagine it? Not me I can tell you that.

<Respectfully snipped and bolded by me>

Why would George have to assume that the smell resulted from his daughter murdering his granddaughter? If he has so much faith in KC and thought she was such a wonderful mother (as he has stated MANY times), why wouldn't his first thought be that maybe the smell of decomp in his daughter's trunk was from either his daughter or granddaughter...and that maybe the reason they haven't seen them is because SOMEONE ELSE killed them and one of both of them is in that trunk???

That alone would make me call LE FIRST, way before I opened that trunk.... especially given that as former LE himself, George did know the smell was decomp. Given his knowledge, he should have called LE and let THEM open the trunk.

I always look at things through my own personal lens. If I had known what human decomp smelled like,if I had been former LE, I would have been hounding the detectives to look at the car.I believe most people would have. The A's knew exactly what they had in their garage.EVIDENCE !
I have seen how thorough LE was with the search for Caylee and how much info they had gathered in less than 24 hours. IMO GA and CA probably downplayed the smell once the police were there. Cindy is not one to be ignored. If she had made the car an issue once police were on the scene we would not be having this discussion. Of course, that's just my opinion.

That's what I've always wondered about,Snaz. Why didn't they freak out that someone else had done something? They knew the car had not been in KC's possesion for weeks. Why not assume a third party was responsible for killing an unknown? :waitasec: Instead they went into cover up mode. Makes me think they knew that whatever had happened ,KC was probably responsible .
I believe that's why LE felt no urgency about the car. The grandparents, who appeared to be sincerely searching for their grandaughter, may not have made the car an issue.

This is their expert, Kobi, he is saying that there is no way in the world, under any set of circumstances...rotting pizza can give any smell remotely similar to human decomposition. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdkTaSJdozY[/ame]

So these folks have been quite full of it from jump. Don't anyone worry over this, how many hours went by from the time Yuri arrived there at fifteen to four am and the time he had the car picked up. It will not defeat the state's case. Mom and pop cleaned up soooo much that even the shed had an absence of finger prints. Come on....the shed doors...who cleans those? THEY KNEW THEY WERE DESTROYING EVIDENCE. That is going to be obvious to the jury.

Good point. Not to mention the fact that family fingerprints would be expected on all evidence. The absence of them would be glaringly obvious. And, if in fact surfaces were wiped clean, it indicates that the Anthonys were not expecting any SODDI prints whatsoever that would need to be preserved.

ITA - the fact that Yuri went to check the garbage bag left at the towyard right after talking to GA means he was already checking to see if it could have possibly even been garbage. It would also suggest that GA was already offering the garbage bag story to downplay the reason for the car smell.

Cat brought something interesting up to me in an earlier conversation. Yuri is a Missing Persons officer and naturally was focused on seeing if he could find Caylee in those first critical hours he was assigned (even though 31 days had already passed). He spent his time exhausting all the red herrings KC gave him driving around that night and into the wee morning hours (although he did go to the towyard to retrieve the bag). I don't know about LE protocol, but after GA was interviewed and the car smell became a factor, perhaps he needed to wait for John Allen to arrive to start a homicide investigation, at which point the car - even though its chain of custody had been obviously ruined - would be of eventual interest. Maybe someone familiar with LE investigative protocol might know more.

I'm with you guys. I posted the hearing so everyone could hear Yuri. These videos may help even more understand what the detectives were doing that morning. If you haven't time to listen to them all, listen to part five. IT IS VERY COMPELLING. Yuri said that after interviewing Casey and following up on her leads and coming to the glaring realization that everything she was saying and every place all over town she was taking them to was lies and fruitless, they came to understand that they needed to look into other possibilities.( The baby was likely dead.) They were going everywhere with Casey in the car, for hours, to all of the locations she claimed to have dropped Caylee off to Zanny....Sawgrass, the nursing home, to other neighborhoods, literally door to door at one complex, they went through her phone and talked to her for hours on end, pulled up Zenaida Gonzalez on their database and showed Casey photos......and let's not forget the colorful stunt up at Universal. Only God knows how much time that wasted. Before taking Casey up there, they had already been up there and talked to security and management, been to every single place she told them about, talked to several of her friends....as they had already made many, many, many investigative phone calls. This was at four, five, six, seven, eight, nine a.m. , etc.

They got her to admit to child endangerment and neglect and gathered enough evidence to have her charged and arrested. For me they did an amazing job doing so; because, they were able to arrest her and keep her from running away. What they did that morning and the end result I am proud of. All day long.
The amount of time and energy and honest to goodness devoted efforts that the detectives spent on these wild goose chases both Casey and mom and pop sent them on is unforgivable, imo. The jury is going to be wholly offended by that!!!! I have nothing but respect for John, Eric, Yuri and all of the good, good people who worked tirelessly on this case.
The delay in having the car picked up is going to pale in comparison to 31 DAYS!!!!!!!:furious::furious: Listen to this girl lie through her teeth to these detectives who are trying to find her daughter. When the jury hears this......it is OVER. It is certain. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_SyH8-6Pho[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLquF7kRN9w[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nig-ITwHAWM[/ame]
At the time they were at Universal with Casey, they had Ricardo, his room mate and other friends of Casey's down at the station being questioned by other detectives. They had people dispatched to several locations already following up on leads. It was a massive undertaking, within a few short hours. I am thrilled they arrested her. ( Here we are a year later and no arrest has been made regarding Haighley for example.) [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rA4nBgphfQ[/ame]

Any delay in having the car picked up certainly pales in comparison to two years that have went by and the defense has yet to examine evidence or depose the state's witnesses. Everything is relative.:furious::furious:
When he testifies, the jury is going to find him far more credible than mom and pop combined. If anything, the jury is going to be quietly thinking, Yuri......
I am with you. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyMjA2XVRH4[/ame]

These thoughts are all great. but personally,I cannot think of one reason that no one went over and smelled the car and opened the trunk. IMO, it doesn't take any special background or training to smell a car and look in the trunk. as I have state several times, I don;t think it will matter one bit in the final analysis and they have conducted an overall stellar investigation.

Interesting...did we ever see any reports detailing fingerprints found on and in the car?

JBean...according to Lee the trunk was open. FWIW

Seriously though...why hasn't someone in the media addressed this? Not that LE would respond...but it is a big question mark.
Because it probably doesn't matter.

Because it probably doesn't matter.
Could it be that they did in fact examine the car and determined that it had been cleaned...and as a result would pertain to an investigation of a different kind...one that may be ongoing...kwim?

There is no mention of examining the car in what we have seen in any of the reports by the officers that were there. It doesn't seem that they went near it at all. But if they had I think the strong odor would have prompted them to seal it off. I say that because that IS what they did once they did investigate it.

Oh you can bet your life, they have checked every store that sells vacumes and cleaning products, wet vacs, carpet steamers, you name it in a fifty mile radius to see if George and or Cindy have bought any new things to clean with. George being in LE for years would know to get rid of the ones they used to clean the car with, as those would surely be taken in any search warrant. They suddenly got new washers and dryers, right?
Cindy lied when she said that they let the car sit there for two days. That is a lie. The car was picked up within 24 hours of Yuri arriving on the scene. They were quite busy in those hours. The media hasn't focused on this because in the big picture of this investigation the hours it took to get the car are inconsequential. Does anyone know exactly what time the car was picked up? I thought it was 12-15 hours. Let me tell you...LE got more done in 24 hours than some do in a year. They got enough to arrest her and the judge did concur. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-ZLQKn3vos[/ame]
Whatever LE did in those first few hours was compelling enough for the judge to DENY BOND. I am thrilled with their results. I am always all about results. If they worked for me, I'd give them a raise. These guys get up every day, ( as we see here...at all hours ), and go to work to deal with folks that hurt, abuse and murder children. They do their job for little pay and even less appreciation. I cannot even imagine how they do it, for one day let alone year after year. It is the kind of job that tries men's souls. I sure could never do their job. For someone as unscrupulous as Mrs. Anthony to lie about them I find incredible. It is that kind of thing that makes people hate her. To me...these guys are unsung heroes. There are very few things I know for sure in this life, this is one of them.

LOL,The World According, no one is mad at LE. We are just trying to figure out what happened exactly.

Here we go, I found it the section where Cindy lies and says that LE let the car sit there for two days, and Yuri tells her that is not true...it was within hours.
