I don't know how much the fact that the boy was naked has to do with him going missing. He was six years old, and it was 1996. As far as I remember it wasn't unusual to see young children playing naked at the beach back then in Europe (as well as women sunbathing topless). His family were German, and naturism has been a part of German culture since the late 19th century. There is also a naturist movement in Portugal. I doubt his parents thought is was odd for children to be naked at the beach, and not having to worry about someone taking photos in secret, as the first mobile phone with a camera was released in 1999.

I don't know if it has anything to do with the fact that I'm european but when I was that kid's age I would take my clothes off anytime I'd be close to water even if there were people around lol

How is it that there are almost zero details on this case? No photos of where it happened? A map? Diagram of where the parents were, where Rene's footprints ended, trails or carparks nearby? I can't seem to find anything on the entire internet.

Because I have been on a beach in Bournemouth close to a woman/mother who was sunbathing face down whilst her two naked children (boy and girl) played a bit away from her in the sand. Along came an older man, dressed like an old sea captain, who was mesmirised to a startling degree (by me) by staring at the boy. He stopped and stared for far too long. Then he woke up the mother and said he wanted to take photographs of the children and if she gave him her address he would send the photos to her. I was horrified. The mother kept saying no, but the man persisted. She had to really argue with him over it for a long time. After he eventually took No for an answer she went back onto her stomach to continue sunbathing and the man continued to stare at the boy.

Bournemouth is where a lot of s*x offenders are on a tag or a licence in a hostel for rehabilitation after prison sentences, which probabation staff despair about as they are allowed out for the daytime - so go to the beaches.
