Possible lead in Susan Powell case, 8-18-11

Wonder why news of this search was made public; either the media got wind of it, or they want someone to know they are close?

I'm of the opinion that that is part of the reason. They want Josh nervous and talking. I am not sure he even went on a camping trip with kids. Sometimes I wonder if the whole "family" went together somewhere, and only 3 came back.

I want them to find her so BADLY. I want the children to be raised by Susan's family. IMOO I think that HIS family may be a terrible influence on them when it comes to their mother. I'm sure they aren't being raised with wonderful comments about their mom. It just bothers me to no end.

Definitely.
We haven't seen this much press activity, since Dec 8th, 2009.

I wonder how much off-the-record info, the media has?

Ely (pronounced "ee-lee) is amazingly desolate. I've been there a few times in my youth. I doubt it would be hard to find her, unless she is buried. But even then, the desert doesn't grow quickly whatsoever, so the area of burial could look out of place.

Man I hope this is a good lead...

That would make sense since the little boy said that mom was looking for crystal in the mines.

Looky here.

Garnet Hill Recreation Area, Ely, Nevada

http://nevada-outback-gems.com/Rockhound/Nevada_garnet_Ely.htm

snipped

The garnets are deposited in open cavities from the vapor phase, and are mixture of spessartine and almandine Garnet. The crystals exhibit sharp terminations and a sparkling luster. They are dark maroon red to black an average between one quarter to one half inch in size. On rare occasions they do occur in sizes up to nearly 1 inch these are extremely attractive, and make find specimens. Normally only one Garnet Crystal occurs in each cavity, but there are exceptions when two or more garnets are present. The geology of this deposit is similar to the famous Topaz deposit at Topaz mountain in Utah. The difference being, that at Garnet Hill the chemistry of the deposit lead to the formation of Garnet crystals, whereas at Topaz mountain Topaz crystals are the most common occurrence.

I'm getting no small amount of pleasure imagining how well Josh will sleep tonight. Hope this is his last night as a free man.

The garnet and mineral hunting areas are pretty popular places - no?
If she's there, I'd think she'd have been found earlier.

10am press conference?
I think they already know what they're going there for.

This is great but I must ask Why would LE announce on Thurs morning that they were going there Friday? Wonder why they didn't wait till tomorrow to announce it?

ITA, I was thinking the very same thing, ie., LE is giving somebody a hellava heads up here............:waitasec:

The mine areas themselves would be popular but like in my State, areas around the mines still have sources for say turquoise, crystal, copper, silver etc...it's deposits. Maybe it's the areas attraction at even campsites. Just guessing but yes if it was a popular area, a body would have been found long ago. I just think it's a surrounding area is all.

It was extremely cold so he would have been able to place her in many areas, I would think.

I hope LE has had Josh under close survellience since this lead went public. I totally expect that he would not hesitate to flee if he can, or kill himself and the kids. In his mind, those boys are his property.

Josh will not be able to handle being exposed as a liar and a murderer.

Hmmm...is there a scanner thread for this case? Wouldn't hurt to give it a listen tonight, just in case he decides to take a ride!

I dunno. I'm still thinking about the kids who found the human bones .... and if the bones had undergone DNA testing.

Unless Josh cleverly switched vehicles, all he had on either trip was the family minivan or a compact rental. Not much off-roading in either of those, in icy, rutted, roads in freezing weather....that you're unfamiliar with.

The word "mine" used by one of the kids, could almost refer to anything...or just an excuse.
