Post-Verdict:Jose Baez-Sanctions? Florida Bar Investigation!

Baez is not going to have any contempt charges lodged against him. The case is over.

Wouldn't it be nice if all the attorneys around the country all wrote letters to the bar assoc to complain about Baez ........maybe they would do it to protect the reputation of trial attorneys.

There's so much corruption and underhandedness going on everywhere around the county that it's beginning to become the norm. I'll be suprised if Baez gets into that much trouble or loses his career.

Attorneys can say whatever they want in "Opening Statements", and they do all the time - whether it is true or not. Their job is to raise a reasonable doubt and save their client. The jury does not have to accept it, and they did not accept the sexual abuse allegations in this case and that is it.

Well that's not what HHJP said and it's left up to the presiding judge. We have not seen the last of this...

Perry said he would reserve until the end of the trial. The trial has been over for some six weeks; it is not going to happen. He won the case and that is it. It is over and as much as that makes many "sick to their stomach", it is over.

Uh, yes they did. They bought that George molested Casey. Maybe they didn't buy the exact story, but they definitely thought George was weird and in on what happened to Caylee in some sort of way. Otherwise, Casey wouldn't have been acquitted, IMO.

And I think attorneys shouldn't be allowed to just say whatever they want the way Baez did. There should be a limit to what kinds of allegations they are allowed to throw out there to save their client's life. It's ridiculous to me that Baez was allowed to do what he did in the opening statement, and even more ridiculous that the jury bought it. He should have sanctions on him anyway because he was completely inept the entire case. Why the Bar Association continues to turn the other way and let him keep practicing law is beyond me.

I think he not only embarrassed the State of Florida but also the Judges involved in this case. They are not taking it too well regarding the issue of "probation". Nope, not this time. I think he's in some considerable trouble with this latest blatant attempt to "fool" the system.

We can only hope so, and I can't imagine these 5th circuit judges will take too kindly to this card of a lawyer criticizing chief judge Belvin Perry. Seeing they put a somewhat snarky statement on the front page of their website, I don't think they're apt to rule in his favor. :praying:

With all of the utmost respect Aedrys, the jurors said they did not consider the sexual abuse. They did consider that George lied about the affair and the fact that he told River Cruz "it was an accident gone out of control" or words to that effect. The jury said the prosecution never proved their case that KC killed her daughter. The problem with the case was that on closing the prosecution did not go over "circumstantial evidence" and how it CAN BE used to convict. They did, in my eyes, but obviously not enough in the juries' eyes.

I also noted that the second juror to speak said "they" did not like the fact that Ashton never said good morning. That speaks volumes - they did not like the prosecution.

I see shows all the time on ID where the lawyers say whatever they want on opening statements and it is allowed because it is not evidence. They are allowed to present what they "think could have happened". It is our justice system

I'm kinda hoping the whole ordeal reached a tipping point when HHJP ordered KC to return for probation, and now the pendulum will gain momentum swinging in the right direction.

The worst part is they used taxpayers money to investigate and accuse innocent people to create their reasonable doubt. The money for the TES investigation alone was a sham. If JB knew they were going with an accident why investigate 4000 TES files just to find a scape goat. jmo

Baez just filed an appeal and there will be a "stay" on probation until a ruling. They may or may not rule quickly. I think they will rule in Perry's favor.

Well, I can find no "solace" in your reply... :sigh:

Because the whole idea was to create as much reasonable doubt as possible in every single area. They had an "unwinnable" case in everyone's eyes including their own and they won and they were just as shocked as all of us. But they won the case and it happens. Worst jury in the world, imo. I think they disliked Ashton and Linda immensely.

BBM From my readings, attorneys have great latitude in their opening comments BUT, they are limited to the things they plan to "prove" duing the course of the trial.

The allegations against George are obscured since the "proof" would depend on Casey testifying. Ethically, I believe, JB could not have made the comments about the sexual abuse unless he intended to call Casey. He can "claim" this was his intent and how can anyone possibly say this wasn't an "intent."

In other words, JB was close to unethical behavior again, but how can anyone prove it. I find this very frustrating. :banghead::banghead: Very few defense attorneys would call a defendent to the stand during a jury trial. JB, IMO, stretches the intent of the law too often. :maddening:

That is the way it goes. Win some and lose some. This just happens to be a case where no one, no one, expected the verdict that was rendered. Everyone wants something right now - it is not going to happen right now - but KC will be in the news again, it is going to take some years though.

Appeals court spokeswoman tells me #CaseyAnthony appeal will be addressed "in some way" before 8/26 probation deadline.

With all due respect my dear friend. :blowkiss:

Have we got more special "Casey" treatment here?
