Post Verdict -Working Out The Unresolved Questions

I have been wanting (and forgetting) to ask about that too, I haven't come to any conclusions about it except the same as yours, the box was open like the camera/case had been in it and the case brought upstairs that day. But what's weird is the 90-odd undeleted pics that were on the camera.

Do you recall the testimony about those pics? Didn't Melendez say the camera itself was too badly damaged to work with and the 90-odd pics were also on the memory stick (but not deleted)?

Was Travis so fastidious that even after using the camera he'd not only put it back in the case but put the case back into the box?

Yeah, that's a good point. When did he buy the camera again? I can't remember. I do remember Jodi pointing out the Myspace or facebook picture of him with the camera, taking a picture in the mirror. I'd venture to guess that he'd do something like that close to buying the camera, so maybe that picture could give us a clue.

Also, what was the price of it again? People were saying it was a thousand or more dollars. I thought they were joking, but if it did cost that much, then maybe he would baby it like that and put it back in the box until the newness wore off, you know what I mean?

Also, was buying this camera for Cancun? I'm sure it would burn her buns if he decided to get an expensive camera for a trip with someone else.

As for the other photos, all I remember in testimony is that there were about 90 undeleted pictures on the memory card in addition to the deleted june 4.

If either of them referred to the instructions, wouldn't you think they'd be out somewhere, on the desk or upstairs in the bedroom? She said they couldn't figure out how to do a video on it, the instruction booklet would be the first place to look for answers but I haven't seen it in any of the pics. I'm glad we're talking about it though, I kept forgetting to mention the box on the desk.

First place I'd look to learn is the internet or youtube.

I just remembered.

Not that Jodi could be believed, but her answer about the camera and learning how to use it irked me to no end.

She told JM that she couldn't figure out how to use it, they were in the middle of sex, and "didn't want to tinker with it" so they tossed it aside and kept going.

Something tells me that if JM had asked why the box was out, she would have said, "Oh, because we DID want to "tinker" with it."

I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, how Jodi uses so many cliched sayings and words. So the word "tinker" just grated on my nerves when she said it. Just like other phrases, like while running from Travis, she was "booking it" down the hallway. She said dozens of others, but my mind's blank right now.

BBM ~ I believe she was giving Travis one last chance for him to be hers forever.

Of course he did not take her back and he either kicked her out or she bragged about going to see Ryan Burns, but then snuck back in while he was showering.

It can't be ruled out, and it still could have been accomplished in just a few hours at the most. But with a roommate at home, she couldn't get into with him. I think it was her best shot to be as calm as possible until she and Travis were alone. And I'm kind of starting to think he might have known she was coming--OR--she was lucky as hell Travis didn't pitch a fit about her being there unannounced so that a roommate would have awakened.

Or is the roommate lucky not to have awakened and been also killed? I don't know if Jodi could have taken on Zach (wasn't it?) and Travis, though.

By the time of the trial that model was already discontinued and the price was pretty high that people were finding in searches for it, a grand or 1500.00 but most seemed to feel it wasn't that costly when he bought it. And I think it was in April when he got it, after she moved to Yreka because she said she helped him decide long distance or over the phone/net, in some manner that made it clear she wasn't in person when he bought it (another one of her wishfully forgettable phrases, those drove me nuts too, they stuck in your head like a nail).

I'm not sure if the camera was specifically for Cancun or he wanted a good one anyways, I think there's a mention in Flores report though. I think. lol

I've seen that pic of him with the camera too, wasn't he upstairs? And why would the box still be on his desk if he bought it almost 2 months before she killed him? He certainly wasn't the type to leave things lying around or be disorganized. Except for the pic of his office closet his house was immaculate. I still wonder who tore up that closet, JA or the police?

Don't forget she had the rental with possibly the plates from the BMW, so the roommates would of not recognized the car. jmo.

Also, I believe Travis knew she was coming. Why? He was shaved also and I don't think he would of shaved for Mimi.

JA did not have the BMW. It was still in Mesa.

I understand where you're coming from, I think a lot of that information wasn't allowed into the trial, it wasn't until late that were heard about the diary entry that she kicked in doors and punched holes in walls, etc., showing her 'mad dog' side. It may be part of her mental illness, calm and collected one minute, a seething whirlwind the next. Maybe once the trial is completely over and everything is unsealed we'll get the full picture of this individual who can behave like two separate beings.

And we witnessed that side of her to some degree in the trial as well, when she became so defiant and combative under Juan's cross examination. The hatred in her eyes was so obvious. And that was in an open court before the whole world. It is very difficult, almost impossible for her to control it, it controls her.

One theory I have: she had the gun on Travis and he knocked it, and possibly the camera at the same time, out of her hand, then she went wild and started with the knife. Then, picked up the gun and shot him at some point. I believed for the longest that she had shot him first, but that theory seems to have been disproven. So, maybe she intended to shoot him first to disable him and make the rest easier for her, but it didn't work out.

Maybe the missing link is just that she can not mentally handle being challenged or beaten in any way, whether perceived or real, imo. She really can, and did, go into a rage and becomes that mad dog. :moo:

You're right, it's creepy how she speaks almost entirely in cliches. And she speaks as though she's just memorized her lines. I have visions of a life-sized, horror story Chatty Cathy doll that pulls her own string, over, and over, and over. Creepy, scary.... :scared:

Hmm you sound like Dr. Demarte describing her borderline personality disorder.
Nurmi and Jodi spent a long time on this weird email too. "AAAnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd, what did you mean by that Jodi, Cooouuld you explain to us?"
Then she kindly interpreted for us while licking her lips and all. "I meant I value his friendship but his friend didn't like me, but I wanted Travis to know I am his friend, even though he didn't really want me to be close to him, but I really cared for him so I wanted to let him know i will always care for him although he could care less what I say, but he would sometimes see me as a secret friend, so I at least needed to let him know what I really meant by that sentence because I am a friend and that is what I wanted to say ......"
This woman is definitely wired differently from most of us.

Her demeanor whole throughout the trial was as if to say to 'her' jurors
"Don't you just hate this short angry man? Look at how this man is so mean and abusive to me and distorting the truth. I will fight for all of us and put him in the right place for us. I will defend us from this mean prosecutor."

To me, the scariest part is that she really thought that jurors were on her side all the way to the end. She didn't seem to realize how Samuels and LaViolette badly damaged her defense, and surely even helped the prosecutor. There are so many things I don't understand about her.

I remember reading on one of his girl friend's blogs... she was kind of poking fun at the fact that Travis shaved and did not like body hair. Gave me the impression that his shaving had nothing to do with sex.:moo:

I'm sure she was schooled to at least partially address the jury when answering questions, but when the prosecutor cross examined her, she seemed to *only* look at the jury...She didn't want to look at Martinez at all! :floorlaugh:

Did you notice that?

The only times she looked at him were during her dire attempts at humor or offense, and those didn't last very long.

JA did not have the BMW. It was still in Mesa.

Aha! Good point! Where in Mesa? Maybe she made a stop to it on her way to Travis'?

Something in my gut tells me that Jodi tried to fly lower under the radar by not having CA plates on the rental.

BBM ~ That is close to my theory. However, after being stabbed in shot in the face in the bathroom, is it possible he could of crawled towards the bedroom/exit?

Not trying to be snarky or defensive, but why else would men shave around their pubic region?

Unless the Mormon religion dictates it? IDK.

If you look at the clearest sitting shower pic (shown during closing) his chest looks awfully smooth and hair-free, I can't even see any underarm hair poking out, only leg hair.

Lol. It's definitely not dictated. Shaving is pretty normal actually. I'm not at all surprised to hear he didn't like body hair. I hate it :)

Are you talking about the bathroom linen closet?

I don't remember seeing a picture of the office closet.

Ironically, he and the camera were in the bathroom mirror in front of the tub when he took that picture of him and the camera. In the police report, Zach said something about helping pick out the camera, as you know. I haven't looked back at it, but with all the time it took for Zach to figure out when things happened, I'm suspecting his idea of when he'd helped travis might not be accurate.

For example, too, Mimi thought her rock climbing date was in March or April. It was actually at the end of February (according to Jodi's diary, let me add).

I guess cameras can be expensive (just not that expensive), and maybe he wanted a nice one for his 1000 places trips. Which reminds me. On the sex call, Jodi was all "I wanna travel with you..." but indicated that she didn't have money. Travis was notable unresponsive to that comment.

What I think was notably missing from that call was any mention of who he was taking. And it was strange because they were discussing people he'd see and things he'd do on trips. They also discussed having the misfortune not to marry "freaky" people, so it seems odd to me that NOTHING about the "babysitter" and if she was ready for the trip, etc, would even be mentioned. Or am I reading too much into that?

yeah, back to the camera and box. There were other things on the desk that I am not sure would have been or that showed Travis wasn't so neat in there, like the empty CD tower. So did Jodi and Travis have sex on that desk? Was she bent over right next to the box and the empty CD tower? Humn....

Don't forget she had the rental with possibly the plates from the BMW, so the roommates would of not recognized the car. jmo.

Also, I believe Travis knew she was coming. Why? He was shaved also and I don't think he would of shaved for Mimi.

I don't believe she had the BMW plates on the rental, but I'm also not sure how having them correlates to what I was saying. Help me out with that. I think if anything, she'd have the Infiniti plates or no plates. I'm not sure why she would have removed the BMW plates from the BMW in April.

Do you mean shaved on the face? I'm not sure I agree with JM on Travis shaving that day. I do see the shadow in the picture that nurmi referred to. BUT I will say that if Travis had shaved that morning, then what we see could be a 5 o'clock shadow.

I understood the point JM was getting at with the shaving, and he did get Jodi to admit that she had been talking about shower pictures with Travis as far back as January when she'd taken the shaving picture, but JM failed to prove, in my opinion, that they'd talked about the shower pictures when Travis had been shaving on June 4th.

Why would you think he wouldn't shave for Mimi? That's why I was asking about his face. You think he wouldn't have shaved his pubic hair for Mimi?

I think Travis would shave his pubic hair for himself. I work at a CrossFit gym, and the men there talk about this. They shave to keep down odor. And it works for women, too. Odor gets trapped by pubic hair. So the men shave to keep down the odor. Some do it to make their organs look bigger--apparently. Some men don't like hair. Travis kept hair on his legs, so we can rule out him not liking hair as the lying Jodi said.

I remember reading on one of his girl friend's blogs... she was kind of poking fun at the fact that Travis shaved and did not like body hair. Gave me the impression that his shaving had nothing to do with sex.:moo:

Uhm....this quote sounds like what Jodi said on the stand....humnn.....

Just like helping Travis with the camera sounds like what Zach said....humnn...

Aha! Good point! Where in Mesa? Maybe she made a stop to it on her way to Travis'?

Something in my gut tells me that Jodi tried to fly lower under the radar by not having CA plates on the rental.

This could be true, but imagine what would have happened if Jodi happened to get pulled over with Travis' plates on her Redding rental car.

Her demeanor whole throughout the trial was as if to say to 'her' jurors

She didn't have the presence of mind to realize that she was helping the prosecutor. Some people didn't care for JM's inquistionary style, but with all his years of experience, it's needless to say (borrowing a phrase from JM), he "knew! He absolutely knew!" what he was doing. That was one of my favorite quotes from him.

And Jodi lacks self control to the point that she can't even recognize that it was to her own best interest not to fall into Martinez's trap. She fell into it and she took a bath in it, as far as I'm concerned.

Another way she lacked self control is in having the need to make Ryan look like a fool for thinking he could get anywhere with her sexually. "I did NOT grind that guy...." comes to mind.

Jodi's problem is that she thinks she's a master manipulator, but she's really the emperor with no clothes.
