Well, she is an only child. And remember this is the picture many of her 'past' friends and acquaintences have shared.
This is why I believe there will be future fireworks in the marriage- Harry being accustomed to being waited on, hand and foot, and a pampered royal- Neither one, without a LOT of pre-marital counseling- is prepared for the ongoing
give and take a marriage requires.
Unfortunately, neither had a smooth, stable, family unit to acquire the habits necessary to make marriage last.

It’s cruel to imply that sort of negative behavior is representative of only children.

Being able to just have one child has been painful and heart wrenching.

Indicating something is wrong with an only because I couldn’t have more makes it worst.

Its an outdated prejudice and a damaging stereotype to convey.

The Royals have plenty of scandal going back decades if not centuries, however, the last few years have been relatively calm. We've sort of got used to Camilla, we can't quite believe Liz & Phil are still with us, and working, and Wills & Kate are very popular and have brought 3 lovely children into the family. Harry has always been a favourite due to his relative naughtiness and how young he was when Di died; the rules that apply to William simply don't apply as much to Harry.

I love this video where Harry is being interviewed about Kate's 2nd pregnancy.... at the end the reporter says something about Harry's chances of becoming King being reduced by the new baby arriving, he just laughs out loud and replies "great!"

Anyway, I think the fact he's gone completely 'off textbook" in choosing a partner proves that he must really love her, and the family must know and appreciate this too. I think they are slowly, slowly modernising and becoming more like the European royal families; a bit cooler, less stuffy, less regimented, more accessible. These faults and flaws and fiascos only make them more human in my opinion.

I'd still love to know what Prince Phillips thoughts are on it all though! :giggle:

People have said her father is a loving kind man. She didn't even mention the word love when she gave her statement about him not coming. If it were not for him, she would not have gotten into the movie industry and would not even be marrying Harry! So sad he can't come.

Public statements to/about her Father vs. private words may very well differ.

I’m sorry for your pain, and I’m sure your only child is very fortunate to have you as a parent. As an only child married to an only child, and who has an only child, I agree that this is a damaging stereotype. The idea that only children are, by definition, spoiled and self-centered is a stupid prejudice with no basis in reality. It’s all in the parenting. Many parents of only children bend over backwards to make sure they are not spoiled and have a realistic understanding of their place in the world.

Meghan’s step-siblings, who are not only children, fit the self-involved stereotype perfectly. Two friends of mine in the “spoiled princess” category were not only children.

I wonder why ITV sacked the Dooley family from being royal correspondents perhaps Kensington Palace had a word with them.

Well, Harry has a castle full of staff to wait on him hand and foot. A lot of the stressors that normal people have they won't, just due to their position. They will never argue about money. They will never argue about him leaving his underwear laying about or her lack of cooking skills... They have servants that will take care of those things. They will have nannies for the kids. They are both older and have sowed their wild oats already. Due to her acting career she is accustomed to the press attention, not to the same extent but it won't be quite the culture shock that Kate or Diana had. There isn't the same pressure on them as William and Kate because he will never be king.

I think they have a good shot at making it.

Honestly, I think they realised there'd be a backlash and that it might damage their reputation / ratings. I mean, nobody wants to intentionally and blatantly annoy the Queen, least of all a media outlet.

This seems like a finale lead up to a season closure and finale to a television show. Lots of drama! And lots of clicks on the rag magazines and the media! Think about all the changes in the story within a 48-hour time frame. The rag magazines must have redone their papers a few within those few hours.

TMZ.. well they merely just kept updating their website every 2 hours for clicks and clicks and clicks and references from everybody as to their stories. I agree with somebody who posted above, it is very strange that he supposedly was in contact with TMZ during this whole entire episode.

I'm looking so much forward to the wedding and happy memories.

Funny that neither use their real first name, I've just been reminded it's actually Henry & Rachel!

I wouldn't pick apart the "firm's" statement. Royal family and incoming family members have no control how the statements are written. Meghan deserves some slack from other ppl's actions.

That is a good thing because the $hitstorm would continue if they were allowed to chime in on Saturday. All these relatives came into the spotlight after she got engaged. Sad, they all messed up bad and now its their loss and someone else's gain.

Not buying it. This was her quote, to leave out the word love is disturbing.

I wonder if Meghan was ever known as Rachel Markle? Meghan Markle has pleasant alliteration, and is a much nicer "stage" name than Rachel Markle would be.

Mine either BDE. I remember being up for Charles and Di's Wedding. Hubby got up to the bathroom and asked why are u up? Are you ill? Then I got the eyeroll lol. All things Royal.

I got up early for Diana and Charles' wedding, Diana's funeral, Kate and William's wedding, and the 1998 Winter Olympics (Nagano) when Tara Lipinski won the gold medal.

Had a haircut last week, mani/pedi today. Will get Bay's English Muffins and scones tomorrow. I have an extensive assortment of teas and will decide on Saturday morning which one I'll enjoy; Earl Grey or Lady Grey are favorites. I read that Meghan likes peonies, so I hope floral department at market has them. I hope Saturday is lovely in London :)

[h=1]'This is not an act': Meghan Markle's former teachers describe her as genuine and bright[/h][h=2]Instructors at Catholic girls school in Los Angeles remember future royal as authentic and kind[/h]
Knudsen says Markle's father, Thomas Markle, who worked on television shows such as General Hospital and Married... with Children as a lighting and photography director, would also help out with school theatrical productions.

"Out of the kindness of his heart, he would come for our own plays and musicals, and he would help with the lighting," she said.

"So you'd just see him walking around. You knew who he was. He was just a kind and generous man. And even after Meghan graduated, he still came back to help."

Knudsen said Markle's father loved his daughter and "doted on her."

"I think she was very close to him," said Knudsen.

On the show last night on NBC, with Hoda and Samantha Guthrie, they did interview the person that has done flowers. He said that she did love peonies and foxgloves.

Meghan Markle shares Princess Diana’s qualities of empathy and warmth, putting her in good stead for royal life with Prince Harry, according to her brother.

Thomas Markle Jnr, 51, told how from an early age, the bride-to-be showed she “genuinely cares about people” and puts them first.

What a turn around from his previous statements.

I'm happy that he's now expressing positive reports of Meghan. Why couldn't he have done so from the very beginning?

Imagine how differently these past few weeks/months could have been, had he been the gentleman he's trying to portray himself as now in the 11th hour.

Imagine the stress Meghan could have been spared.

“Cops are baffled by explosive claims that Meghan Markle's half sister was run off the road and hospitalized by a paparazzo because they can't find any evidence the crash happened, DailyMail.com can reveal.

Officers from the Florida Highway Patrol spent three hours trawling their database for details after TMZ reported that the car Samantha Grant, 53, was travelling in struck a concrete barrier on Wednesday afternoon.

And after their search turned up empty they even warned the driver, her 60-year-old boyfriend Mark Phillips, could be guilty of a hit and run misdemeanor - punishable by two months in jail - for failing to report an accident.
