Publicity Stunt or Reward-splitting alternative?

I think LE has cracked something already, but I'm not sure what it is. Day after day we keep hearing TH has to be polyed, last one to see him, TH has the answers. I'm starting to think more about a hand off of Kyron for some reason.

Just want Kyron to come home alive. This is wearing on me.

The part someone might be hiding , Kryon somewhere has crossed my mind. I went to the grandfather site and saw the children's books he wrote and the one he is writing or will will soon. When I read the excerpts from one, I thought right away, maybe he is being hidden somewhere. But after all this time, I now have my doubts he is still alive and well

Not to disparage the original idea/poster on this, but to continue to debate it as a legitimate argument as to what is happening in this case, is enough for me to post (once) in this thread to say:

I LOVE alternative theories than what we all suspect it keeps our brains working. Great ideas.

But I dont think this is a publicity stunt or split ransom. These appear to be well educated people so they know that a stunt like this would cost them their careers, thier reputation, and put them in jail, not to mention they would have to pay back all the money for the search efforts. As far as splitting the reward, once again all the above apply but also they seem to be pretty well off drive nice cars, have good jobs, I cant seem them going to this extreme. However it would be great if it turns out to be the case

With the Shannon Matthews case Karen was having a relationship with the other party involved. She was fully involved in the guy keeping Shannon out of sight. They tried to get money from the McCanns but it didnt work. Luckily the police eventually went there and little Shannon was in the bottom of a bed. She had been drugged over the period she was " missing"

I am aware that she was fully involved. As was Shannon Dedrick's mother.

My point is that Shannon Matthew's very easily could have been accidentally overdosed. Or suffocated in the bottom of that bed. A completely unintentional consequence of their actions. Only intending to get money, end up killing the child. They were just lucky that it didn't happen.

It doesn't seem like a hoax to me, but who knows! No matter how this turns out, I'm pretty certain it will seem bizarre and unlikely.

If it is a hoax -- and even if it's not -- one possible motivation might be to be able to sue the school.

Obviously I don't know if anyone involved has reason to resent the school, but apart from the financial gain, a lawsuit would punish the school. And who knows, maybe someone wanted a job there or something and was rejected.

I can't help but think that whatever happened to Kyron, the school was also a target.

It never crossed my mind. I don't want it to be a hoax. I just want Kyron to be alive and well. I would love to see Kyron with his big sweet smile when he hears about how hard everyone has searched for him.

Kyron looks like a sweet good natured child who I hope has a chance for life...
I have never met him, however, I hope for his life to continue. We need him.

I actually think most of the current silence and investigative strategy could be attributed to early fbi involvement and ITA.

This case reminds me very much of the Sandra Cantu case. Why? Because it happened in semi controlled environment. Sandra's trailer park only had one entrance in and out.. and there were multiple cameras along the way... This school situation with Kyron is very similar.... there weren't cameras... BUT he was in a contained space and vanished from that space. There were multiple possible witnesses to this. And it was a small school. Everyone knew what SM and he looked like. I actually trust that the questionnaires will yield something of investigative significance.

What kid goes missing from INSIDE a school like this? The risk is so high for a stranger/non family member abduction. I know it has happened before but really this is mind boggling.

If it is a "hoax" or "publicity stunt" as I suggested in my OP, that also doesn't explain why the family is staying out of the public eye as much as possible, re: SM's urgings on FB, and scripted statement's as opposed to interviews.

However, this could be an extortion or publicity stunt gone wrong, if alibis have fallen through or the perpetrator/s (whoever it is) is feeling the heat of suspicion when they thought their involvement would go unnoticed. And *if* Kyron was taken and not simply killed the day he went missing, then any family or LE announcement of a suspect to the press without enough evidence could cause that person, or persons to change their plans out of desperation.

There were so many coincidences aligned that enabled his disappearance to take place (a miscommunication about a doctor's appointment, a fifteen minute time frame in which he vanished, a flawed absentee policy, a talent show that wasn't attended which would have alerted people), that in my opinion there had to be some form of premeditation with whatever happened, stranger or family.

Other options for perpetrators also seem unlikely:

If it was an older child/bully at the school, they were not old enough to drive so a body could not have been carried far. But no trace of Kyron's scent or blood has been reported found.

If it was someone unknown to the Horman's who had been following Kyron, he/she would had to have known that Kyron was going to be on his own for a certain amount of time, unaccompanied by his SM or teacher so as not to get caught in the act.

If it was a Sex-Offender, same thing, and it would not be considered an isolated incident where parents should not be concerned for their children (right?).

An accident would have left blood/DNA evidence.

Anyway, for me, the primary reason I believe this is still a plausible explanation is that 1) no body has been found 2) police and family members are not talking, so either they really know nothing or something important is at stake and 3) motive: it seems highly unlikely a stranger could have committed this abduction at this time, which leaves family/friends and as suspicious as I've been I'm unable to think of a motive for a premeditated crime based on what info we've been given, but many people can never have enough money.

Must say, it's never crossed my mind for an instant that it was a hoax, but like many others have said here, I now wish it were a hoax - if only because it would mean Kyron is still alive and not being molested somewhere.

It's hard for me to imagine someone doing such a thing and thinking they can get away with it, but some people really are that egotistical and stupid. I have no real sense of the Horman's finances, but it's hard for me to think they are super hard up for cash, owning a mustang and living in Skyline area. They don't seem to be extravagant people (Mustang aside), judging from the clothing the kids wear, and their modest home. Also, Terri is a stay at home mom, which is - let's face it - a luxury these days. If they needed more money, she could try to find a job (although prolly not in teaching as teaching jobs are almost impossible to come by in Oregon right now).

I think for someone to put on that kind of hoax for MONEY, they would have to be broke and with little to no money coming in. Kaine has a good job at Intel; I know that position pays well, so why give that up? If such a hoax were to happen, it would have to be for attention - like the Richard Heene (Balloon Boy Dad). But the Hormans have no noted history of attention-seeking antics.

So I think it's an interesting idea, but can't think of how it fits with this family.

hmmmm...in the beginning my first reaction after a few days coverage was that there was some financial motivation behind all this...those vehicles are no slouch in the $$ department and although i have never seen any depiction of their house i know where i live you pay a pretty good dollar to have a place with a long winding driveway and what appears to be small acreage. I work 2 jobs and have a fairly good income and still drive an older car and live pretty frugally. I dont have memberships to gyms nor go on disneyland vacations (not that there is anything wrong with any of that stuff) but i get the impression this family is somewhat status-concious. To be a SAHM is a luxury in my book as well. All on one income. Anyway...that being said I really believe this has gone on way to long to be a hoax. The cost of that search must have been astronomical. So even though i dont think this is any kind of hoax it is as plausible a theory at this point as anything else. He is somewhere...this amazes me with all the resources at hand that after almost 3 weeks there is not a trace.

Very convincing post, Psychout. Any info about this case is not being allowed out to the general public. Kyron is still missing. It could be LE does not want to upset the person who he was passed to. It hints at a slight chance Kyron is still alive and they must handle this carefully for his safety.

I feel LE has cracked the case enough to know the facts now, but aren't sharing it for a reason. Is the reason Kyron's safety?

This could have simply been a crime of opportunity. Unplanned-just opening up to a perfect situation for someone who had evil intentions-even if he/she didn't 'plan on' committing the crime, but suddenly found a perfect opportunity to do so. ETA I really don't believe this theory myself, but it is a possibility. I am more inclined to believe they know the perp and the reason behind it...

For anyone unfamiliar with the Shannon Matthews case, Shannon Matthews was a 9-year-old girl reported missing after being dropped off in front of her school in Britain. Her disappearance launched one of the largest missing person's investigations in the country and took place shortly after the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. In the end it turns out that the girl's mother had handed her off to a man (and perv) related to her boyfriend, under agreement that they would split the reward money. The 9-year-old girl was found ALIVE less than a month later, and in close proximity to where she was reported missing.

I think when a child goes missing there is a very BIG danger, in the automatic collecting of funds due to this case; I have mentioned this in a couple cases, namely in the Somer Thompson case. There is a real danger here in missing children cases & I was scoffed-off by many. We DO NOT want to see this happen as a possible motive for ANY child "to go missing" was my point! I appreciate in this case, the parents DID NOT ask for a collection and LE said early on "donations could aid the search". PEOPLE there is a real danger here; no matter where your heart is....it takes time to do an investigation and family has to be ruled out. It is a scary scenario with frauds. Although everyone has the right to donate to whoever they want...it might prove harm (to future cases) given the Matthews case. But to just to re-iterate hasn't happened in this case, so that rules out that motive in this regard, IMO.
