Ransom Note and Calls to the Boss

BBM
I think this exactly what EB was counting on thus taking the spotlight off her self.
I have a strong feeling this was all her way of getting rid of Zahra and AB. If she killed Zahra and could get the blame put on AB he would be in jail and she would be free to move on. We all know shes big on change in men. Getting rid of AB didnt prove as easy as the other 6 + men in her life. She is the reason hes in the US. She doesnt have the money to send him back to OZ. So she choses the next best way to get rid of him, have him locked up for murder and deported after he gets out. She in turn is able to divorce him (or not) and pursue london guy or anyone else.JMO

Completely possible!... the anyone else part.

Although the $10,000 (not so much) mystery man may have become somehow "socially involved" with EB (via her own daughter's photo) I believe that any monetary support that was being sent to EB (over time) was NOT intended for EB's use to flee the country--BUT, for what he was made to believe--a sick child with cancer and/or a "sick and dying" Step MONSTER ("poor me"), and nothing more. I don't believe that he ever imagined any of what this has unfolded to become. Nor did he expect her to use his last name.

I'm glad that he has now 'escaped' being another notch in the belt of EB's "inventory" of men whose lives she can royally screw up. Literally.

In short, I don't believe that he was patiently waiting for EB to run to England.

All just MOO from research I've personally done.

If this post is a nono (I tried to be careful) I apologize in advance...

Hubby and I talked about the boss/ransom note thing a while back. He didn't understand why it was written. In my mind I can see EB and AB thinking that they have to do something, anything because Zahra was dead (by their own hands) and they had to explain why she was "missing". Now I can see both of these people sitting around and thinking hey lets make some money while we are at it. Lets say that someone was trying to kidnap the boss's daughter but took Zahra by mistake. Since obviously the boss has enemies and it is because of him that Zahra was taken then he should/will pay the ransom. EB and AB get the million dollars, Zahra is explained away and the cops will be wasting their time searching for the kidnappers instead.

I still can't figure out why they didn't "check" on Zahra when the FD was there that night and waited until the next afternoon.

ITA the londondude is NOT a factor outside of being yet another example of E's wiley internet shenanigans.

I really was just using londondude as an example. I would hope hes smart enough to see her for what she really is before going to extremes. I guess I should have used Joeblow instead.

I'm already confused about the need to come up with any story at all. No one noticed this little girl and they would have no Idea she had gone missing. Even if biomom had found her at last, what difference would it have made? There would have been a snowball's chance in he!! she would have been able to visit and they could have moved changed email address etc.

So I think this was an attempt to wring some cash out of an unconscionable act both of them had perpetrated on Zahra. I think they did what they did, cleaned up and painted and when they were ready they concocted this elaborate story to get their hands on some cash.

I believe they wanted his boss to call 911 and the fact they had to call was a huge problem. Thats why the whole thing doesn't make sense and AB couldn't muster up any emotion, he had dismembered his daughter and after that I'm pretty sure he checked out emotionally.

Neither of them were invested in Zahra's welfare thats for sure, they could have let things be, but they didn't. She took a lot of finding even when LE was told where to look and I think she would never had been found without stepmom rolling over on AB.

So IMO it was the thought of getting their hands on some money that got them caught.

Don't misunderstand, it was a valid point, I just don't feel he specifically was factor in whatever happened to Z.

as to the BBM extremes? You mean like move halfway across the world and marry a woman he didn't know?

Yeah, you're right. NOBODY'd be dumb enough to do that - :waitasec:

ahh but scamperoo, there were people who noticed Z. Those previous neighbors and family members and the school officials who had sicked DSS on them. ED who claims to have discovered where they were.

Zahra was IMO at that point in time on a lot of peoples radar. She couldn't just fall off the face of the earth as if she never existed.

Some explanation of her absence was quite necessary.

BBM Not at ALL :) I completely understand what you meant.. and I don't doubt for one second that there aren't a couple more poor gullible men out there... who have been negatively effected by EB and her stories and "letters".

How much trouble there is to fit the ransom note into this...had me think...maybe it wasn't meant for this. Maybe it was a different scheme from an earlier time that didn't come about and was forgotten in the vehicle. I don't know Just thinking.

I wonder if they can tell when it was written by the ink on the paper?

Sorry to butt in line Sherlock... :HBwhiteflag: When she said that about "nothing going as planned," I got to thinking about the gas in the cars. What if EB poured a trail of gasoline intending for the cars to catch fire too, but for whatever reason the trail didn't catch?

(Is that even possible? Every movie I can remember that involves a trail of gasoline, it's on concrete. Would it soak into the grass of the yard and not catch fire as easily? And why do I feel vaguely disappointed in myself for being so deficient in my knowledge of how to set things on fire? What is WS doing to me?)

Well, I can offer this from my own personal experience (sorry to rat you out in public, Darling!):

My husband last year decided to set a HUGE brush pile on fire. Our property where the brush pile is is on a slope. Hubby decided the pile was so big, the only way to get it to burn was to pour gasoline all over it. He pours the gas, walks down the hill, brings the hose up to have it at the ready, stands back from the brush pile and tosses a match. KABOOM! Only not only does the brush pile go KABOOM, but so does the trail of gasoline that had run down the hill to where Darling was standing. Sent him flying backwards I don't know HOW many feet. Eyebrows, beard and forearms all singed.

So yeah, I'm gonna say gasoline poured on grass still catches fire quite efficiently. ;)

..i wonder if she used the envelope that the power bill came in? in which case it would have a postal stamped date on it.
..or is there an envelope provided with the bill, to mail payment back ?

"A search warrant application filed in the case said the case began with a call about a burning mulch pile at the home about 5:30 a.m. Saturday.

Firefighters found a Chevrolet Tahoe with its passenger door open and a power company envelope with handwriting on it on the front windshield, the search warrant said."

I respectfully disagree fire call was strange too she starts off talking about AB's JOB

True, but she doesn't go on and on and on about it. She mentions it once, in the begining, then goes right back to giving short, brief, direct answers to the questions she's being asked.

Furthermore, her husband being in the tree trimming business is pertinent information here. Note that after she says, "My husband works for a tree maintenance company", she goes on to say, "...the back yard! We've got big mulch piles and wood piles and firewood and stuff". That's pretty relevant info to give when you're talking about a fire. It's not like it's completely off the wall info like, " I think my daughter might be entering puberty" and "she's had a stomache virus" and " I think the kidnappers took her leg with them". KWIM?

OMG!!! I am so happy that your DH only got a light singe! And grateful to you for sharing--I'm sure none of us will embarrass him by mentioning it if we ever have the pleasure to meet him IRL... :innocent:

Afterwards I asked him, "What the heck were you thinking!" (meaning pouring gas like that). His response was, "I was thinking...OMG! I hope Kat didn't hear that!"

LOL!

OT and BBM

Oh you can betcher bippy I will not only mention it but will mercilessly tease him about it should our paths ever cross ;)

I think the phony kidnapping plot was supposed to deflect attention from the B's. If the plan had gone the way they hoped, Zahra's disappearance would've been incidental to the kidnapping plot, and the focus would've been on the boss's family and associates. I think the reason for mentioning the marijuana smoking son was to make it look like drugs and drug dealers were involved.

I'm pretty sure one of them was supposed to "discover" Zahra missing while LE was there, and I think that was to be AB's job. He might've simply chickened out, or -- and I think about this more and more -- he saw a chance to leave EB holding the bag. The ransom note was in her handwriting. She was the known abuser. I'd love to hear an account of that night from the LEO's on the scene and know what conversation transpired between them and the B's. EB's the big talker. I just wonder if she said something to LE that would later incriminate her, and AB figured that if he played dumb, he could avoid being fingered. She probably pitched a fit later because he didn't speak up.

ITA the boss involvement as far as being mentioned in the note was to deflect away from the household and towards the boss family, specifically the son, hence the mention of the "pot smoking".

I also think that part of the idea of the phony kidnap was that out of guilt and sympathy the boss would, thinking Z was mistaken for hsi own daughter, kick in some sort of financial support during the "frantic" search of the Bakers for Zahra, poor little cancer fighting amputee hearing impaired Zahra.

you and I are of one mind as to why the ransom note was directed to boss.

Good thoughts, imo, as to the potential financial gain for AB/EB being what was behind the 'ransom note'. MOO
