Report: Elmo Doll Threatens To Kill Toddler

  • #21
You do realize the company programmers have hidden easter eggs for giggles (in their minds). The change of the batteries mixed with the name James could have been the cue to trigger the response.

Years ago, we chased hidden easter eggs all over Windows from their programmers. LOL It was really kinda fun.

My son has one of these elmos and yes you can program them from a computer to say things you want.

Would it have the same voice as it came with though?

lol Emo Elmo:crazy:

My daughter has a Dora version of the doll and it will give you certain options that you can program, but I don't think this would be an option. It comes with fixed phrases and you can add or change the variables (X). For instance, it will tell you to plug in their favorite food. The doll would then say "Is your favorite food X?" or you plug in their best-friend's name it would say "Is your best-friend X?" You can only change the variables and I don't believe "Kill" would be a fixed phrase that comes with the doll. Does that make sense? It sounds like a manufacturers defect or programmer's fun to me. :waitasec:

why didnt she just take it back where she bought it and get the kid a new one? Or is this a future lawsuit?

Let's not forget the little teletubby doll that was supposedly saying something rude, although I can't remember what.

People like this see $$$$ - of course it means a law suit! Fisher Price (?) has offered to replace the doll and/or something else for the child and want the doll back so they can investigate what happened. Will this happen? Probably not... these people see $$$$ and will do what they can to get the most out of it.

You and I? We'd take the voucher and/or the new doll and be happy.

You and I would not program the doll to say something like that!!!
If these parents thought this was a way to make money then certainly they could have come up with some other more harmless phrase.
How sick that they came up with this!!!

We actually have that one, it sounds like she's saying "Fa**ot fa**ot, bite my butt." It's Po. There was a recall at the time, but we missed it. We just kept the doll. Now my youngest plays with it. The kids don't hear anything bad in it, they don't know words like that. It's pretty routine "Tubbyspeak" from the show, IIRC it's Chinese or something.

Anyway, I found a video of it youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vj9oCSu9yYk I think grownups hear mean words, but the kids just hear tubby gibberish.

What do YOU hear? I remember listening to my own child's doll at the time and thinking well, yeah, it kinda sounds like that....but not for sure...
Anyway...have you thought about putting it on ebay or anything?

I didn't think it sounded like that until I read about it. Now that's what it sounds like to me.

She's one of my son's dearest favorites, so I don't think we'll be getting rid of her any time soon ;)
