Reports of multiple people stabbed in a Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan. July 26th 2025

Munson Healthcare said via social media that 11 people were being treated at the region’s largest hospital in northern Michigan. Spokesperson Megan Brown said all were stabbing victims. Six people were critical and five were in serious condition late Saturday, she said.

What is the world coming too? Rarity, no firearm in this attack - but look at the injuries he was able to inflict in minutes!! Grateful no lives were lost.

Another WHY? Ranks with Stephen Paddock, Vegas killer. More recently, Vance Boelter, Minnesota legislator slayer. No reason for killings. Is it mental health? Is it politics? Is it current US domestic circumstances? Outrageous that someone would go to a retail establishment and just start stabbing customers.

"Heroic shoppers forced a man to drop his weapon
after he stabbed 11 people inside a Walmart in Michigan
on Saturday afternoon.

The extraordinary moment four men confronted the deranged suspect in the parking lot of the Traverse City supermarket was caught on camera."

"Steven Carter told The Associated Press he was loading his truck in the Walmart parking lot when he saw a man cut a woman's throat with a knife.

About five minutes later, the man was surrounded by shoppers in the parking lot, including one who was holding a gun. The group of five or six people kept yelling to the man 'drop the knife,' he said, and the man responded: 'I don't care, I don't care.' He kept backing away from the crowd, before someone tackled and subdued him."

Eleven people were stabbed Saturday in a Walmart store near Traverse City, and a 42-year-old male suspect is in custody, according to authorities.

Grand Traverse County Sheriff Michael D. Shea said 11 people were injured in the stabbing, which initially started near the store's checkout area. Six of the victims were male, five were female, Shea said.

Megan Brown, chief communications officer for Munson Healthcare, said that Munson Medical Center in Traverse City is treating 11 stabbing victims, and five are currently in serious condition and six are in critical condition. Brown was not able to provide the ages of the stabbing victims Saturday night.

"Our hearts go out to the victims and their families," Brown said. "We also commend our staff, nurses, doctors, everyone who helped in this situation."...

There are posts on X that purport to show the suspect being disarmed and held in the parking lot by folks who intervened.

Open carry state? Thank God for these courageous humans!! Also I didn’t realize last night when reading about this that it occurred in the p-lot, not inside the store.

Has he been named yet?

EBM - did not occur in p-lot, happened inside store at the pharmacy counter. He was taken down outside the store in the p-lot.

For those who might not be familiar with Traverse City, Michigan, this link will provide details about the popular tourist area. I haven't been to TC for several years, but we used to visit there every summer and occasionally in winter, as well. I never imagined that something like this would happen in Traverse City :(

In between nature and water, you’ll find a community connected by both where there’s always something happening. If you’re not near the water, or on the trails, you’re likely exploring the county roads in search of scenic overlooks and local treats. Traverse City is a destination where your journeys are filled with moments between the activities that allow you to realize you are exactly where you should be.

Thank you, different media sources have mixed locations. The one I read said pharmacy counter and many of the victims were elderly.

At least 11 people were injured in a stabbing Saturday at a Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan, officials said.

A suspect is in custody, the Michigan State Police said on X. Grand Traverse County Sheriff Michael D. Shea said the suspect is not familiar to law enforcement.

Shea said at a news conference Saturday that the act appears to be random and that the victims were not predetermined. He said he could not comment on whether it was a "mental health situation."...

I’ve seen the video of the guy being confronted in the parking lot.
He appears very unkempt and his clothes look filthy and he seems kinda out of it.
Just from those observations and the initial statements saying police “thought” he was from Michigan makes me think he’s a homeless man with mental health issues.
Just my thoughts. Could be entirely wrong.

Yes. In Montana he probably would have been shot by a half dozen people.

So very sad, it's awful that you are not even safe going shopping nowadays. Thoughts and prayers to all involved.
