Rescue at sea for sick baby

Those poor, poor children. This story makes me sick.

I had the same thought. Was this trip a ruse so the couple could get attention? Were they seeking attention for reasons other than sailing around the world?
Seriously who sails around the world with 2 little ones?
Something imoo stinks.

Hi Cherie, all it did for me is confirm the fact these people are nuts!.IMO.:seeya:

Hummmmmmmmmmm Rebel Heart. I think the name of the boat puts it all into perspective. These two were going to do whatever they wanted to do and "damn you" if you didn't like it.

They did not have the experience to sail in the open ocean the way they were attempted to do. I'm beginning to think that this trip was indeed a "pipe dream" with absolutely no regard for the safety and well being of the children. It is no wonder that the baby was sick, I'm very surprised that the entire family did not die at sea with the totally unsanitary conditions on board. Add that to the inexperience of the couple and their inability to comprehend the dangers of sailing untrained and unprepared and you have the makings of a tragedy. They do not have the sense to take care of children.:banghead:

A “seriously ill” baby girl stranded with her family nearly 1,000 miles off the coast of Mexico in the Pacific Ocean has safely boarded a San Diego-bound Navy ship following a daring rescue.

Can someone please resize and post that special picture of that "prepared" environment please?

That is really remote, like where Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 may have crashed into. The closest island, where they are is Clipperton Island, which is a uninhabited island and French territory.

'Are we there yet?' Family's round-the-world sailing trip ends after just two weeks as sea sickness and broken boat turn dream voyage into a nightmare
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-broken-boat-turn-dream-voyage-nightmare.html

Now, if it was Point Nemo in the South Pacific, there is no land for many miles. The closest is Ducie Island, which is nearly 1,700 miles away. Oh, also the seas are quite rough as it lies in the Roaring Forties. It could get very stormy from those extratropical storms that circle Antartica and Southern Hemisphere. Those storms make the southern part of South America very stormy. Rescue could take days to arrive.

I'm glad to see they are almost universally criticized. I agree this is a mad attempt at procuring a reality show.
Sickening. People do anything to get attention.

Being a parent means making sacrifices in the way you've "always lived" if that lifestyle puts your children at risk. Freaking idiots.
So true.

The comments from Charlottes latest blog entry are interesting, to say the least.
One commenter found the side effects/reactions for Bonine sound similar to what we've heard about Lyras symptoms. Oh, it's only for ages 12 and up also.

My X has a commercial shrimp boat business. He rescued a family that were missionary's. Same situation, it was a family with small children on a sail boat headed to the Bahamas. He was so upset that afternoon when he got home, with the children on that boat. There was a mayday call that went out and he heard it, was near area and went to help. He got there before the authorities did. He got all the family on his boat then when the marine people got there he transferred to their boat. The sail boat sank before the marine authorities got there.

So sad crazy adults put children's lives in such jeopardy.

Where does the money come from to support this family?

Despite a clamor among some in the public, the Coast Guard announced Monday it will not be charging the Kaufmans for the cost of the complex search and rescue mission.

The Coast Guard does not charge for such missions, said Coast Guard spokeswoman Lt. Anna Dixon. We don't want people in trouble at sea to hesitate to call for help for fear they'll be charged for assistance," Dixon said. Mariners assisting others in peril is a "time-honored tradition" and a requirement of international maritime law, she added.

POST OF THE DAY.......

:loveyou: :takeabow:

The more I read about the parents the more I'm convinced the children should be removed.

Bonine for Kids should not be used in CHILDREN younger than 6 years old without checking with a doctor; safety and effectiveness in these children have not been confirmed.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:
Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue).

Officials have not announced where they are taking the baby to be treated.

Charlotte and Eric requested to stay at a Navy base hotel and then travel to New Mexico, where English lives.
Because the family will have to abandon most of their possessions, English is working with friends in San Diego to collect donations to give the Kaufmans when they arrive.

Collect donations, surely they jest. This husband with his wife and two really small children on this boat didn't have any money to fall back on. Thoughtless! Words from my dh. Joo

ciao
