Restless Legs.......??

Agreed....it's not painful, but irritating. It feels like a need to move your legs immediately...almost like bugs inside your legs crawling around

Count me as one who has it. Mine comes and goes. It will be every night for weeks then goes away for awhile. I haven't talked to the doctor about it yet, I usually just get up and come to the forums...lol.

I have RLS, really pretty severely. In the sleep studies I have had it has shown to be quite frequent. Can't remember the number of occurences per hour, but it was high. My sleep doctor has had me on a NEURONTIN (gabapentin) for several years. Oh what a difference. This is one med that if I realize I am out of I would head to the 24 hr pharmacy to get filled. I use it every night.
It is not for RLS per say, it is a seziure med. But it works for RLS.
I also have sleep apnea and sleep with a BI PAP machine. I think the the apnea probably goes along with the RLS for me.
It is a very uncomfortable feeling.
I appreciate that RLS is getting more studies and treatments.

Everything you said is me too. In fact, my RLS is worse than apnea. I have more awakenings due to it.

How is one diagnosed? My husband and children claim I have "twitchy legs." Some nights it's worse than others. If I have something to bear down on, like a headboard, it alleviates it for awhile. Sometimes I can't sit through a movie or DVD because I can't sit still. I get the oddest feeling in my legs, so uncomfortable. Sometimes I get up and walk around, but that really doesn't help, especially when I'm exhausted. It really gets on everybody's nerves. I didn't know it was a real thing. I thought I was just being a dweeb.

It is Real Mr. E.
Just talk to your doctor and explain just what you said. He may give you something to try.
To truly be diagnoised I think involves a sleep study.
But the symptoms you describe should be enough for your doctor to treat.

I've wondered if I have this for a few months now. Apparently I kick my legs in my sleep sometimes. I never paid any attention to it; I've always tossed and turned and changed positions in the night. But I do get that "must move my legs" feeling sometimes.

I am going to look into this also. I can't sit at my desk without twitching around constantly which usually ends up with my sitting on one of my legs or crossing them. I toss and turn all night just to move my legs around. Hmmm, now I am curious.

Wow I am so glad I don't have this condition, it sounds vey unpleasant.

Isn't this a great place to be: WS..........I would never ever in my life find so many answer's to so many problems. I am a mover when I sleep.
I move ALL ROUND. Leg and muscle problems, I just didn't know that it happened to anyone else.. So I guess, it's possibly common.

I have been told that I do everything but spin on my head when I am asleep. I take neurotin for it and the nerve damage. My legs jump and hurt horrible. I burn and tingle and have a scratch that I can't manage to itch! It is a mess. Sometimes it is worse than others. Lovely isn't it?!?!?

I, too, have itchy legs. Not all the time, but sometimes. I scratch and scratch, and it just gets worse. Is this part of the "restless legs syndrome"?

Only4Justice,

Yes, MS is an autoimmune disease where they think the body actually attacks the Central Nervous System, or CNS. They believe that the body feels that the myelin, a fatty protective sheathing of the nerves, is a foreign intruder so the immune system attacks it defending the body. This causes damage of scar tissue called plaque or lesions & the nerve transmission is greatly impaired or can be completely disrupted. I'm not sure if RLS & MS are connected, I believe that the muscle spasticity caused by the MS is the culprit. The behave the same way, that's why the drugs are being used for different types of disease & syndromes. Someone else spoke about neuropathy. I suffer severe pain from peripheral neuropathy caused by the damage done with MS. My neurologist put me on Lyrica & Topamax and they have worked wonders. I still have bad episodes, just not that often. I use ice on my ankles on the times of a severe flare up & that really helps too. Lot of stuff out there that helps symptoms from a myriad of diseases & syndromes.

Stay Well!!

Bugs inside your legs is a very good description.

I have it the same way you have it.It started about 5 years ago.My legs actually move! its like I have no control over it.I have a hard time sleeping anyway and this is no help, even my toes twitch!!!

I have fibromyalgia and restless legs syndrome. My previous doctor said my legs were like this because I used to drink alcohol in my early 20's and it damaged the nerves in my legs. I say he is a duck. He didn't know what it was so he had to explain why he was putting me on Ativan at the time. My legs go numb , twitch, and have burning sensations at times.
My doctor now have diagnosed fibromyalgia and restless legs. I take Voltaren and it helps some for the pain.

I have this, but it hits me at night just as I'm settling down in bed and it makes sleeping impossible. I started drinking more water, and the episodes diminished drastically.

I get this when I take Benadryl at night. Isn't that weird? I don't normally get RLS otherwise. But, when I take benadryl, I'm settling down to sleep when the legs start up. It's horrible. I can't stop them. I have to sit up and cross them under myself to get them to stop. It's just the worst thing possible at bedtime. I sure hate to think how you folks suffer if you have it all the time!

gaia:cool:

I have RLS also and it drives me absolutely crazy when it's in full swing. I can't even relax on the couch without my legs actually jumping all over the place. About seven years ago my RLS was really bad along with a slew of other medical problems. My neurologist put me on Mirapex which didn't help a bit. After seeing an upper cervical chiropractor for a few months the RLS diminished quite a bit. I've also found, like Calikid, that lots of water intake does seem to help too.

I have RLS too! It drives both me and my poor dh crazy. I like hearing all of the non-drug suggestions, such as drinking more water and taking more iron. I am going to try both of those remedies.

IM: See this. Requip.

I've seen it used with some success. Some studies have shown significant benefit from various types of exercise (real exercise, not walking-around-the-house type).

If you think your SX are connected to your C spine, finagle an MRI of your neck and see if there is any stenosis or cord signal change indicating damage.
