Never mind. Jen might be wrong here.

"UPDATE RE VERNON PARKER -
It was confirmed to me that Parker was the bishop in Travis' ward from people who attended said ward. The fact that he's a State witness came from another page. That is now being disputed due to the latest minute entry. As it stands, I can't confirm if Parker is a State or Def. witness. I'm sorry for not checking that fact before posting - I trusted the source. It won't happen again. My apologies to you all.
Feel free to chime in with your thoughts/views.
Also, please let me know what you think of this page and if you'd like to see any changes, improvements etc. What can we do to make this a better experience for you, going forward?
EDITED TO ADD: Parker is a def. witness."

So confused. He's from Travis' old ward but the defense wants to call him?

Defense witnesses have not been publicly named.

In fact, Judge Sherry K. Stephens ordered the list sealed and ordered that fact published.

JSKS has also ordered Vernon Parker's name published as a witness.

Therefore, she is either in violation of her own order to keep the especially cruel lying torture murderess's witnesses' names sealed, or Vernon Parker is not a defense witness.

While such an obvious contradiction would not be beyond JSKS or Maricopa County Superior Court, as previously stated, I believe we can safely conclude that Vernon Parker is either not a defense witness or that he is, but that he prefers to have his name made public (unsealed) despite that fact.

It's confusing, but maybe Parker is one of JM's rebuttal witnesses - maybe JM needed an authority on TA's religion to rebut something one of her witnesses was going to say? Didn't this quash and motion to compel come up after JM interviewed her witnesses?

You're right. Juan is the one who brought the name up as someone he intends to call. Well, dead give away is that he's calling him lol. But he knows it would be a big no-no to say defense witness names out loud in court, something he hasn't done. If that is what happened the defense would be all over it right there, accusing him of misconduct. It's the wording of the minute entry that is causing people to say he's a defense witness. And I think they should stop reporting that if that's all they're going by because nobody knows what the minute entry even means.

MeeBee, do you know (or remember, I think I used to know lol) where Travis' Grandmother lived when he went to live with her?

ETA: I *thought* she was in Phoenix/Mesa and that's how he got there but my memory is cloudy on that.

Grandma lived in Cali, where all the Alexander kids grew up. Travis was the only one who re-located to Arizona.

Vernon Davis is a starting tight end for the San Francisco 49ers.

Vernon Porter is a bass guitarist and minister.

D. Vernon Parker is 73 [updated] and earned a bachelor's degree from Weber State University and a master's degree from the University of Utah. He was born in Montpelier, Idaho, and married Marsha Eunice Curtis.

None of this is secretive or private information. It was published by the LDS on -- wait for it -- this date, September 25, in 1993.

To return for a moment to the top secret black cut-out defense witnesses we are certain about because we don't have a clue who they are, what would ever make us believe they will make the earth move? The killer had no mitigation witnesses in her first penalty trial and the couple who withdrew or were not called, had nothing positive to contribute. There was the ordinary woman they used to know and then this multi-faceted degenerate fiend they admitted she morphed into. Defense had to scrape to find those and then chose not to use them. Wisely. You know the old admonition, "If you can't say anything nice, better to say nothing at all."

That leaves relatives, always discounted because of innate bias, and professionals. Most times expert witnesses would not require incognito status until they testify but then there was ALaV & the threats. So we have top security for The List. Some who appear may not rise to the level of expert but offer respected opinion. I do find all of defense's courtroom antics over The List melodramatic. When something is under high protection, expectations grow. This is due to curiosity & only natural but the actual revelations from the stand may fall far short or crumble upon examination. I do think it was folly to create the undercover intrigue. The team, however, is not known for its discretion and subtlety.

How about this possibility? Maybe D. Vernon Parker was on the defense mitigation witness list, but refused to appear for his interview with Juan on the ground that he had already spoken to the defense and told them he had nothing to say in favor of Jodi and wanted off the list ASAP, and the defense agreed to take him off the list. Then Juan said, well hey, maybe I need to talk to you after all because it sounds like you might have something helpful to say on my side, and VP said, I would really prefer not to be involved. [Now somewhere in all this there must be a subpoena or threat of a subpoena, or I don't get where the judge gets the power to "order" him to participate.]

And then the defense said, but wait, your honor, remember when we had the sealed hearing about whether we could argue XYZ at the mitigation trial, and you called VP on the phone to preview what kind of testimony that would involve, and then you said no, we can't argue XYZ? That topic is off the table, right? And the judge said right.

Disclaimer: This is just a guess. I know nothing more than any of you.

Oh, wow that's interesting. I can totally see that happening. Hmmmm...

I'm so glad you chimed in on this though!

I'm starting to think this new trial will have a lot of new surprises and things we might have not heard before. From both sides..

Makes sense to me that he would be a defense witness since it was ordered he volunteer to be interviewed by State.

Defense team is enjoying the fact that public does not know! Know matter what the great prosecutor will succeed!

But the defense witness list is sealed, so he must be a State witness, but who knows? Guess we will find out in an month. I am just elated the retrial looks on track to begin Monday. Finally, Justice for Travis & his family.

Wow, so I've been talking about Vernon Parker on The State vs JA page on fb. I wasn't rude or anything, just kindly letting them know they shouldn't confirm anything that isn't 100%. And they removed all my comments and blocked me from posting and removed my 'like.' What. The. Hell?

Aw I am so sorry MeeBee. Wonder if the mod just misunderstood? Your comment was correct. None of us know for sure.

Yes! I have been wondering if JA contacted this bishop while she was acting as her own counsel - didn't like what he had to say - JM jumped on it - and she handed it all back to Nurmi to sort out.

Oh, it's alright. I've found FB admins of trial related pages to be that way, kind of nazi-ish. I just thought they should put a disclaimer on it because it's not certain and it's confusing people, including me! That's why I love this place so much, because you're free to debate and speak your mind as long as it's within bounds and you're respectful. So I still got my sleuthies lol. And I'm quite glad the lawyer chimed in lol. I think what you say makes a lot of sense.

Also, please disregard my post saying it's confirmed he's a defense witness and he's from Travis' old ward. Nothing is confirmed.
