Quite ironic, since Nurmi is currently trying to squelch the media.

ETA: It's a false analogy--idiocy--but that is no grounds for jury sequestration.

Janx, maybe I am reading you wrong. How is it a false analogy? IF JA ever walked, for any reason, then both Nurmi and JM better realize she would commit some beheadings in a heartbeat, beginning with them. This creature is dangerous. And I am not exaggerating. She was well on her way to her next victim(s) when she was arrested.

I wll say this about Jodi too. After the Casey Antony trial, the website thread I was on had people asking the question what they would do if they ran into Casey on the street. I said I would cross the street.

In Jodi's case, I would obtain a licensed permit to carry a concealed weapon and...well, you have the general idea. Casey's dangerous to all children. Jodi's dangerous to all people.

oh well, they are really so much alike. They should both be locked away.

I don't think it's a false analogy either. The cartoon is not super literal, in that it's comparing the violence of Jodi to the violence of ISIS. It's comparing both of their brands of media manipulation. The article that went with it basically says this.

Media will have 1 designated/guaranteed seat in courtroom 4 #JodiArias #deathpenalty (24 total) when opening arguments begin.

Actually, with the force she slit Travis's throat, she practically beheaded him, so she's not that far off from ISIS. They just have a political motive and she stabbed and used a gun too, but still very similar, IMO. She also stalked and terrorized Travis, so I think she qualifies as a terrorist too.

Definition and examples of false analogy:

http://grammar.about.com/od/fh/g/falseanalogyterm.htm

I realize it's a cartoon (cartoons use hyperbole to great effect), so it doesn't matter much, and it's irrelevant to the defense of a convicted murderer.

Political cartoons in particular, which this one was, are merely meant to be humorous opinions, not factual. If a person is offended by a particular political cartoon, they don't have to read them. That's why they aren't in the same section of a newspaper as the rest of the cartoons.

If I understand correctly, the upshot of today's hearing, according to Resendez, is that media will not have access to jury selection. They can't be happy about that.

Well, the thing about them is they're meant to be thinkers. Their meanings aren't usually apparent and you have to think a little to get it. The "media manipulators" part helps. He's not comparing Jodi to ISIS or the beheadings to Travis's death, he's comparing both of them trying to manipulate what gets out in the media and the way they use the media to put themselves out there to do so. ISIS with its beheading videos berating the US to follow its whims, and Jodi with her many interviews and attempts to ban all media from the courtroom so the only thing she gets out is what she wants. This analogy is not false. It's just vague.

I understand that, LinasK. My son is a publishing cartoonist. Anyway, the cartoon is irrelevant to the case. Nurmi is desperate. I'm more concerned with the media's being shut out of jury selection.

Some of these motions appear to be written up by 'her' and appears to me, she is 'insisting' that the defense file these motions....A waste of AZ tax payers money, time and 'she' thinks she is control...she started the media issues knowing she would try to use it against the State and media in the future....games all games...IMO

But why would the defense think that a bishop from that far back in Travis's past would help in mitigation? Could they be that desperate? And even if Travis stayed in tough with this man, what are the chances that he knew JA?

Another point: Some time ago, Nurmi complained in court that he was having trouble with a deposition. Could this be related?

Maybe JA thought he could support the theory that Travis had a violent temper.

The only deposition complaint I can think of was re: a witness with the initials "DR."

If I understand correctly, the upshot of today's hearing, according to Resendez, is that media will not have access to jury selection. They can't be happy about that.

I thought it was just no guaranteed seat for the media until opening arguments. But I could be wrong--it's tough to get accurate news from tweets. You know what would work better? Video coverage. ;)

Anyway, if we're only getting tweets, I don't see that it makes much difference whether the tweets come from reporters or from other attendees, except that it will be harder to know whose Twitter accounts to follow. The chances of any of the tweeters having a clue what's happening in the courtroom from a legal standpoint are about the same lol.

Oh My, I love this cartoon. And JM agreed it is offensive? I am not offended in the least. I didn't read the story, I will do that and see if that changes my mind.

Hi Curious, why are JA.'s bloomers in a snit!! This is true, they should tell her this is the publics opinion of JA..:laughcry:

hmm Does anyone remember where CFJA was baptized? California or Utah?

IIRC, TA traveled to California to perform the baptism there.

I don't believe there's a dispute in that regard.

I've seen the interviews with the missionaries who proselytized her and that was their version.

Thanks for answering TD ~

Because I have kind of have been thinking outside the box here. I was just thinking possibly that since JA was baptized in Ca., that perhaps Vernon Parker could/would know that following the ceremony (?) < wrong word?? that there was some type of gathering....that would expose JA's BIG LIE about what SHE said happened right after she was baptized. It's silly I guess, because as I was typing I remembered that this part of the trial is only about life or death. :blushing: But it was the first thing I thought about after I heard that Bishop Parker is in Riverside ca.
