Actually Brad Pitts or whatever his name is that is a reporter (PHX AZCentral) said that proceedings would continue but not with this witness until a judgment is made in re the media.

My understanding is that the attorneys for the media filed a stay to halt all proceedings until their special action can be heard and decided.

Here's a thought: what if the person just assumed Jodi would be speaking because the family was and reported the assumption? Allocution doesn't come til the end.

The reason Travis family was allowed to stay is they are protected by law under the Victims Bill of Rights. They can stay in the courtroom no matter what.

Okay I agree with that, but why couldn't her family çhoose to leave or stay? They were told to !eave. Is the court room still closed to all but family again today? ty

I don't think there's anything odd with mom being called back. The DT was probably letting her know she'd be required to leave.

That could be it, but couldn't the DT tell her that without her going back in the room? I just find it suspect, maybe purely innocent like you said.

Jodi's family is considered part of the public so they had to leave like everyone else. No court today so we'll see what happens Monday. Rather you guys will as I'll be unplugged (gratefully).

I don't recall ever seeing Jodi's family go back in chambers in the original trial. It could have happened, I just don't recall it ever. So I get your question.

I have to say I do not believe courtroom was closed so the killer could speak privately to the jury. I see no reason whatsoever for the judge to grant a defense request that anything Jodi wants to say to the jury is to be said to them behind closed doors. I just can't see that because the judge could say either she speaks in open court or she doesn't speak, it's her choice. More likely the mystery person is someone where the judge did not have the option to deliver that particular ultimatum.

IMO.

I wholeheartedly agree! AZL already said JA is a convicted murderer - she doesn't not have the ability to control the judge like this. JSS would not risk the "administration of justice" for JA's wants & wishes.

This is someone that JSS felt had more rights than the media. There are very few categories that legally JSS could rule this way. IMO

Jodi probably argued or raised issue over Mom not being allowed to be in there, since Travis family was allowed to remain - and rightfully so!! Maybe Mom raised issue herself that she should get to remain. Since Mom may have been the issue maybe they allowed her in on the discussion. Lot of mysteries this time around.

KCL, I'm so thrilled that you here with us. The trial is a little more bearable knowing you're around. At the same time, I'm delighted that you're going to have some time to rest and relax. Happy Birthday once again! Have a lovely week. You will be sorely missed here!

That would be my guess as well.

If opening statements are any indication, Nurmi is ratcheting up the child abuse angle this time. When I noticed tweets about the mom leaving court yesterday, I wondered if the "mystery" witness might not have something to do with testimony to that effect.
