What was her purpose for telling that story? About getting pancakes?
She initially, I believe according to the interrogation video, told Travis that and it made him jealous. She used the story as an example of Travis's "jealousy". I believe it's made up because what tow truck driver would take the risk of driving a female passenger across town? No way, dude.

Was it Matt McCarthy or was I dreaming that I saw that name somewhere?

I read somewhere on this S webers moved something about this guy from NZ. His initials are MM. Interesting those initial but his name is not Matt. It looks like a conspiracy theory to me involving the Hughes an affair and some dead woman

Hmm. I didn't realize NZ guy was still being pursued after pro per. I'm still unconvinced it was him yesterday, at least, that NZ guy is the Anti- TA fellow being discussed.

Closing the court was a pretty radical decision by JSS. JM must have been able to interview the guy before yesterday or he would have been precluded. The guy in question has so little credibility it would be surprising if JSS blew up the 1st amendment for pure garbage. Or....maybe not so surprising, eh?

As for Karp and pseudonym, am I mistaken in thinking she requested to do just that?

Obviously he did finally get an interview with whoever was called yesterday and if it is the NZ witness then Juan had to have interviewed him too. I think there's a possibility it is him. Who the heck else could the DT possibly need from NZ.

AZLawyer already discussed why the judge may have been obligated to give in to his wishes. I trust her (MVP of this board!)

Maybe. Looking at the minute entries it seems there was something about pseudonyms and Cheryl Karp but nothing about Cheryl Karp wanting a pseudonym. If she'd wanted that why would they name her in the entry. I think they wanted other witnesses to be able to use pseudonyms and the judge said no. The entry about Karp was in regards to something else.

The courtroom being closed off gives the appearance that this witness has great credibility and I think it also hinders the prosecutor being able to attack his credibility by Skype, if that is what is happening. It is wrong for so many reasons. I really do pray the media wins this fight.

We all said Nurmi couldn't sink any lower. He just did.

I think the secrecy factor could also be used by the defense to play up the poor Arias angle, lamenting she and everyone close to her has been bullied, harassed, vilified, crucified by the media and the public (a view shared by former juror Zervakos).....now as a jury please don't do the same thing to her;please show her mercy and allow her to live.............
What a travesty! But to some degree I think that's what convinced Zervakos, adding to the poor abused young girl tragically thrown off the trajectory of her life by mean old Travis.

If it was a tow truck driver (I think it was) they will and usually drive you wherever you need to go. Within reason. 5 miles isn't a stretch.

Yeah, but she, in typical Jodi fashion made it sound like Mr. Tow Truck Driver went out of his way and drove allllll the way across town because Jodi loooooves IHOP. And Starbucks, and murder and lying.

Yes she did and it was approved by the court. Weird, huh?

I wonder how JSS slept last night . . . .

Under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, the press and public are granted access, according to media attorney Dan Barr, unless a judge finds that access can cause "irreparable damage to the defendant's right to a free trial" and there is no alternative.

"She has to make written findings so a court of appeals can evaluate her reasons," Barr said.

Furthermore, Barr notes, the Arizona Constitution says that, "Justice in all cases shall be administered openly, and without unnecessary delay."

And the Arizona Rules of Criminal Procedure say:

"All proceedings shall be open to the public, including representatives of the news media, unless the court finds, upon application of the defendant, that an open proceeding presents a clear and present danger to the defendant's right to a fair trial by an impartial jury;"

and:

"The court may, in its discretion, exclude all spectators except representatives of the press during the testimony of a witness whenever reasonably necessary to prevent embarrassment or emotional disturbance of

Probably with one eye open ... lol !

Yesterday's decision by JSS was outrageous, and at a minimum INO, she should be sanctioned !

:moo:

Go back to page three.

I don't know if I can post his name but Tex Mex did on page 3 if you're so inclined. He's been all over SM spreading lies upon lies about the nature of his relationship with Travis and Jodi. We also discussed him in an earlier retrial thread. They actually discussed him in court on Oct 6, after the first day of jury selection. I think Juan was having trouble getting an interview with him.

Going blind I think. Could not find any comment from TexMex on page three.

Good Morning and Happy Halloween!

My money is still on the Bishop, D. Vernon Parker--my thought is that he is a very reluctant witness, he appears (Facebook) to be very involved in the Riverside, CA. LDS Ward and I would bet he has earned their trust in him.

The age, 72-73, matches the description of the elderly gentleman helped in by the defense yesterday.

I also wonder if, after the Alexander's powerful VIS, he had a change of heart about his testimony--thus the last-minute media blackout.

Pure speculation and MOO.:moo:

My head is spinning. I wonder if JSS is Mormon and she did this for Bishop Parker out of respect. If so, bad decision since it shows partiality. AZlawyer seems to think a lot of JSS but I have to wonder.

ETA: anyone think this may be a possibility?

I respect AZL's opinions too , but that doesn't mean I have to agree with all of them. ;). I follow her logic and understand why she's guessing its NZ guy, but she's guessing, not knowing, as we all are, given the shut down yesterday of open court.

This guessing game is especially convoluted because the DT's tactics are becoming as twisted as their client. Asking for the whole penalty trial to be conducted in secret? Assumed names for witnesses? Bizarre and disturbing.

Back to Karp. She has the potential to blow up CMJA 's abuse claims, but she is a thicket in many ways, IMO. I strongly believe Nurmi is going full out on the pedophilia slander.

He needs witnesses to testify in order to introduce it AND keep CMJA off the stand. NZ guy is that, however flawed, and Karp is another.
