Retrial for Sentencing of Jodi Arias - Day 9

I have to go to work today but am looking forward to tracking the day with WAT's tweets and coming back to read.

Am really interested in Juans cross... Can not wait for this fiasco to be finished.

If Nurmi is as ridiculous as yesterday, we ought to get through about 5 or 6 emails before you finish your workday. Maybe.

I remember when Kiefer tweeted that and the implication was that she was "livid" with Juan and Flores. But in light of Juan's revelations, I wonder what she was really livid about. She had obviously been called in by Juan in case she needed to testify so she already knew his side. Was she livid at Nurmi for inadvertently shining a light on a mistake that she herself made? Is she livid at false accusations being leveled at the state and/or at herself? Because Nurmi certainly implied that whatever happened was done with nefarious intent but she was the one who had the computer at this time and the deletions happened on her watch. So now the implication is she did something wrong, which she probably didn't. Or is she just livid at being dragged into this?

It's like AZL said, if Nurmi had just called, he could have gotten to the bottom of this before he filed the motion and made a fool out of everyone. But it's kind of his thing. Rushing to something before thinking it through and getting all his facts first. There was that time he got all excited about Travis' assault criminal record, when it was Travis' brother using Travis' name. That time he rushed to get Jean Casarez on the stand because he thought she said something she didn't say on a sensationalistic news channel. The time he thought juror 17 was going to be on Dr. Drew that night when it was actually juror 17 from the previous trial (I somewhat also blame HLN for the attention-grabbing headline). And on it goes.

He's trying to create appeals issues for the future but after crying wolf so many times, you think those judges will ever take him seriously? When you start whining about every single little thing without basis people do not take you seriously. They'll go through the papers and see that everything he complained about had a logical explanation. Jodi can't even complain about ineffective assistance (though she will) because Nurmi is doing his damnedest. He just gets a little excited sometimes.

I'm very surprised at his slipshod investigations into these critical revelations. Why wouldn't he vet his "prosecutorial misconduct" fantasies a bit more? Guess he's just a lil too anxious to make Juan look bad. Sad really.

I think CMJA fed him the garbage and he leapt at it. He seems to be taking the trial very personally. I think he genuinely detests JM for destroying his feeble witnesses and for shredding his fairy tales.

But it was CMJA who was obsessed with getting her hands on the harddrive, because she knew about the 🤬🤬🤬🤬 popups. When Nurmi or the expert checked and saw the files deleted he fell all the way down her revenge rabbit hole without checking out basic facts.

His bad. His client's badness seems to be contagious.

Usually you have to line your witnesses up to establish foundation for the next witness, right? So how could jodi of been up first without the foundation of whatever abuse being laid first? Maybe she wasn't the secret witness.. Unless I'm wrong?

Good morning...trying to carch up but cant read JMs motion and cant grasp the last line smackdown. Can someone please explain. Thanks!

Thanks MeeBee, I have wondered if someone might address why the previous attorney was "livid". I would like for more of this to come to light. She likely didn't appreciate being dragged into this. Maybe she gave Nurmi a call to personally thank him. :)

Does anyone know what time court is supposed to start today? I did a quick search but didn't see it. TIA!

The last line was his best snarkerific line ever:

"Therefore, the state requests that the court prohibit the defendant from questioning witnesses regarding so-called pornographic websites allegedly visited by the victim either before or after his death."

The full motion, which is very short actually, is shown in its entirety on the Sidebar 33 thread. Yes or No did that for us. You will get a kick out of it. Juan is just brilliant!

She was the first witness, laying the foundation for the others. We will have to see what is to come.

I think that's it... Nurmi hopes to make JM look bad. And Flores, too. But why is he so hellbent on raising issues without basis? IMO, to rile. To incite. To get tongues wagging in the media and online. That way he can claim their case is being tried in the media and it's not a fair trial and secrecy is a MUST under the circumstances. Hey, if he could get lucky and find something that would stick against JM that would be a bonus but I think his main objective is to say anything that gets noticed, to get people riled so "threats" might ensue, which are fodder for yet another motion or an appeal crying about all the attention the case got means there was never any chance of a fair trial.

It's so sad that Samantha felt the need to defend her brother...of course Travis was a wonderful man! She must have reached boiling point. I hope that she realizes that 99% of people know the truth. It's as clear as day.

I agree, Jodi's orders, he is working for her! I have no doubt she is directing the show.

Thank you Rose. At the end of the day, we all know Travis was a good guy, a normal guy, and he wanted a future without a psychopath in it. We love him and we never even met him. I hope Samantha can realize that after all the sleaze is over, she can rest assured Travis will shine through!
