"If it is proven that AirAsia flew on a day it was not supposed to fly, the question is how could its flight plan be approved in the first place?"

"It makes little sense that they chose to fly on a Sunday knowing they did not have permission to do so," the online news portal reported, quoting former Indonesian Air Force chief of staff Chappy Hakim.

Chappy told Kompas.com that it was very odd for a flight to commence without a legal basis.

He also did not understand why the Indonesian Transportation Ministry suspended AirAsia’s permission to fly the Surabaya-Singapore route, after it was found that the low-cost airline did not have a permit to fly on Sundays.

When I saw the Russian plane roll up behind a CNN reporter I got more than a chuckle. I thought the pilot was going to run over the correspondent to make sure they were in the shot. And revved the engines for a bit before turning them off. It reminded me of Putin riding a horse for the cameras with no shirt on. LOL

JMO's

I find it hard to believe they didn't check the weather. jmo It might just mean they didn't check the weather with Indonisia's standard weather information source before flying and used another source?

Experts weigh in.
I can only speak on behalf of the crew I have worked with. I do not know in my 37 years flight crew not checking their weather. It's a fundamental requirement they advise the rest of the crew weather conditions. Sometimes the weather can become so extreme you are belted in for half of the flight time. Will check with the guys at work tomorrow…their maybe a requirement they need to check en-route. Given the severity of the weather in the area it you would consider this to be a MAJOR oversight. It would be akin to a surgeon operating on the wrong patient.

Kinda like a Nurse drawing up a syringe while conversing with another Nurse about her social life. Or watching a movie while preparing a med. Instead of the 0.5mg. I get 50mg. of something. I die. Attention to detail people where it may cost a life! Protocols are in place for a reason.

100% correct.

I liked the days in the past when the Captain would do a walk thru and greet the passengers with a nod. You could ask if your child could go up to the cockpit for a minute and it would be granted. I get those days are done and why. I liked the days when you were told look to your right and you will see this. Or we are presently flying over such and such. I just like to hear a human voice who holds my life in his hands. Not that I am afraid but there is just something reassuring, comforting. Best flight I can speak to. West Jet. The Gals dress in Western wear and you get a little song at the end of the flight. They were an absolute hoot.

My daughter kept her little pilot, stewardess, and crocodile (?!) finger puppets that she received on an early childhood flight for years. She loved croccy the best, he had a mouth that could open and shut and eat stuff.

Sudden big drop in altitude about an hour out of Hawaii ... things flew around the cabin, people screamed, the lady next to me left fingernail marks in my arm, flight attendants dropped to brace .. then after a while the capt came on and said "Sorry about that folks". (??!!)

Why would someone threaten, aren't we over there trying to help?!?! :shame::gaah::gaah:

Unfortunately, Indonesia is known to harbour some very radical people. The mastermind of the Bali bombings (many, many Aussies and other tourists killed) has been locked up in Guantanamo for years. The US won't give him to Indonesia, even though they have repeatedly asked for him back.

I still have my American Airlines wings. Metal with a clasp. 15 and flew by myself from FL to OH. First flight was awful. Two old men hungover from a sales convention hitting on me & the worst storm you could imagine. Nothing as bad as one from Chicago to OH years ago. Food trays flying & bodies flying everywhere. Bad bad storm. I have about 10 scary experiences flying in my lifetime. Small planes too. The Chicago flight was very scary.

O/T, my apologies.
